can't say enough about what tanny was able to do this past offseason we've got a great staff between him and mangini, stoked for the future
Beat me to it! Also, I saw thay had Bryan Thomas listed as a UFA...is that true? And, as others have said, I don't expect the Jets to make a "big name" splash unless they know the guy personally and know he is in line with the "core Jet values". Plus, I expect them to use some of that cash to tie up some of our own young talent long-term.
I think the list is old. Maybe made during the preseason. BT was resigned for 5 years and $25 million.
Thanks...I can't believe I forgot about the BT extension. Let that be a lesson to you youngsters out there. Just say "No" to drugs kids!
I was looking at some of the suggestions made on the board so far and some of the players have been resigned (i.e., Vince Manuwi OG Jacksonville). Here is a great site that has current scouting reports on most players and recent news. Eventhough it is headquartered in Canada. Just search the player you are interested in. http://www2.sportsnet.ca/football/nfl/players/
if we go for one big name, it should be either Samuel or Briggs. it's very plausible for Samuel to come here since he and Mangini have that connection, Mangini a DB coach prior to D-Coordinator. however, i think Belichick will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn't happen. cheers
I think the most valuable aspect of this 20+ million we have in the offseason is going to be locking up our own potential superstars. I'd look for Jerrico, and Kerry to get some nice contract extensions and then with whatever money left, sign some guys to help us with our depth and who fit the system as well as maybe 1 big time player, not Briggs, or Asante Samuel big though.
I would do back flips if we could sign Clements. A solid, #1 corner has been lacking on this team for years.
I think we are going to do it the NE way. Through the draft and finding sleeper free Agents. Guys I would want. Would be Sands as a DT. Try to send our lower second rder for Turner if they feel he is a game changer, and resign our own guys.
WR Drew Bennet (If McCareins doesn't accept a pay cut and Bennet want sto be a #3 WR) LB Adalius Thomas/Lance Briggs? CB Asante Samuel (That would be amazing if we had Dyson/Samuel/Rhodes/Coleman, and hopefully the Jets spend some money and he likes Mangini) Remember at the end of last year? We were in salary cap hell, I swear Mike Tannenbaum is a genious with this stuff............
Another guy of tremendous talent who may be available is Nate Clements. Personally, I'd love to rob Buffalo of a key cog of their defensive lineup; theirs is much scarier than New Englands, which will be an aging unit even if Asante Samuel stays in Boston. Edit: I see it's been noticed. Really, $28 million is a stupendous number. We may see some additional long-term extensions for key players.
Guys who stood out to me: RB Correll Buckhalter (could be a nice compliment for Leon) DT/DE Vonnie Holliday (proven vet and experienced in the 3-4) CB Asante Samuel DT Terdel Sands OG Eric Steinbach
I think a list such as yours is one that is much closer to what the actual FA acquisition list will show. I see LB/DE as the position at which the Jets are most likely to utilize the draft; Briggs and Thomas, for example, are talented players, but not standout by any stretch. I doubt we replace the 36-year-old Kimo van Oelhoffen with another 30+ DT, though.
If we get Sands we are moving Robinson over to DE. Robinsons play has in my eyes said he is part of the future.
