That makes sense, and I'm sure he'll make up some of it (I've heard $25 million before, maybe that factors in a $3 million incentive). Even if he gets all $6 million back, we're still in an incredible financial position.
First, re-sign members of the core who are hitting the prime of their careers, like Cotchery and Rhodes, to 5-6 year deals before they hit the open market and command elite money (similar to the way the Eagles have gone about it). As for free agency, I doubt we spend a lot of money on one or two guys. Terdell Sands is a guy I'd love to see us show interest in, though.
Peter King once again doesn't know what he's talking about because the Cards and 49ers have the most salary cap space with the Cards being under by 38 million and the 49ers under by 37 million. Buffalo is under the cap by 33 million??? http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9790677
You would think that a guy who covers the NFL would be aware of the facts. He is a pompous moron. I mean he does make his living having information, too bad its not accurate.
Asante Samuel has been on my wish-list the longest... Clements is going to want top dollar, i'm talking a bonus of at least $15 million and I don't think he's worth that, he's just overrated to me.
I knew something had to be wrong when King's name came up and I didn't feel inclined to call him a moron. What a moron.
Except King isn't talking about highest quantity of available cap room. He's talking about highest quantity of available cap room relative to the number of significant free agents. Buffalo has an elite starting CB and a starting left tackle to resign. Arizona has an elite starting LT to resign, and a huge amount of money going to a diminishing running back. The Jets have Anthony Clement, who will be allowed to leave the team. King is right, and you're overreacting.
that would be a sick DL, that should stop our issues againsts the run. also Drob wouldnt see double teams all game at DE and I think he would play even better then he did this year.
Michael Turner, RFA, San Diego Chargers Turner takes a beating and keeps going. Turner isn’t well known to the general public, but the kid has talent. He gets a handful of carries behind Ladainian Tomlinson and has maximized those carries, averaging six yards per carry in his short career. If Turner continues to have success in his current role, it won’t be long before teams start thinking about making an offer come free agency. With his expanded role in San Diego this season, it shouldn’t surprise anyone to see Turner sign elsewhere, but the Chargers may look to keep their dangerous rushing combo together. Vonnie Holliday, UFA, Miami Dolphins He’s been an effective defensive tackle throughout his career, and when Holliday hits the market, his experience, talent, and size will make him a desirable option for teams that need defensive interior run support. Miami won’t want to lose him, as they have a collection of veteran players who could help make a Super Bowl push in the next few seasons, but Holliday can command a decent dollar amount if he seeks a new employer. Don’t be surprised to see the Dolphins re-sign him before free agency. Nate Clements, UFA, Buffalo Bills Clements should be the top target of teams looking for help in the secondary. He’s young, highly regarded, and very talented. Buffalo would like nothing more than to have him signed to an extension as quickly as possible, but his talent—he does have two Pro Bowl selections—may lead him to test the market. Without an extension, the Bills must decide if they are willing to franchise tag Clements once again to guarantee his presence on the gridiron for one more season. Since Clements has not been adversely affected by NFL officiating changes, most NFL teams will pursue the cornerback if he hits the market. or Asante Samuel UFA New England Patriots Samuel has shown growth over the course of his three-plus years of experience, and at only 25 years of age, he’ll be a hot commodity. If the Patriots don’t sign him to an extension, suitors will be lining up to try and acquire the talented cornerback. His coverage skills have developed and some are even talking about a possible Pro Bowl invite. This season is quickly becoming a breakout year, and it could lead to a nice payday for Samuel, which doesn’t bode well for the Patriots; but, expect the Patriots to try hard to lock up the UCF product with an extension.
Thanks to the ridiculous contracts that were given out but restructured. I've stated it time and time again. You resign & keep your best players and build from there. Bradway NEVER did that. His idea was to get a cheaper replacement to plug holes...
Cigar. Yeah that's what he was talking about. I think he missed a few important details, like the Cotchery extension and maybe the Rhodes extension, but he's right: the Jets have among the best, if not the best overall position headed into free agency. I have the feeling they won't use all of it, a la the Eagles, and try to keep a strong position from season to season.
you guys listen to King??? King is saying that the problems between Magnini and Bellichick is all Mangini's fault because he signed Chatham and tried to get Deion Branch!
Jason Peters was signed to an extension over the summer and was moved to LT after the bye! The Jets cannot be happy with the current group of players they have so some players will be cut to make room for FA's. It will be a bidding war for FA's this year and any team that is 20 million or over will overpay for the players they want. So it doesn't matter if you have 1 FA to sign if you want new players you have to cut the ones you have and take a cap hit anyway. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=3861
That's speculation, brother, and not the particularly educated kind, either. Exactly where are the Jets unhappy with their current talent, and who will they have to cut?
Ovie Mughelli, Ovie Mughelli, Ovie Mughelli... (please Baltimore- do not resign him) ___ Tony Gonzalez to Carolina or Green Bay, maybe?
You didn't know that? I'm not sure about Chatham, but he's obviously angry with the Jets about Branch since the Patriots bothered to file tampering charges. You didn't think he was just bitter for no good reason, did you?
Yea, actually, considering he's an intemperate, angry man. One can only wonder what part of its body Gillette Field will lose if the Patriots go down tomorrow. Perhaps there will be a mass beheading of the goalposts.
Tony Gonzalez and Asante Samuel would be good players to add. Both have playoff experience and would add good veteran leadership.
