Starting to see Tunsil rumors on the twitter timeline. What would that guy even cost? I'm not opposed to making that move since it sures up our LT spot for the foreseeable future. I'm not sure if I would part with a 1. A 2? I really have no idea what the pricetag would be. Obviously Miami fleeced the fuck out of them when he was traded from Miami -> Houston so I don't think that is near the starting point. He's only 28 and a proven stud in the league. He would obviously need to be restructured after traded.
What do you think the following players would cost us in a trade? Jerry Jeudy WR Bradley Chubb DE Laremy Tunsil LT
He’s also going to want way more money and has been considered a bit of a malcontent. Not really the JD kind of deal.
Good write up NC. Plus he missed his rookie TC (Gase) with a pulled hammie, then at the start of the season, he pulled his other hammie and couldn't start a game until like almost mid season. And he did pretty good...I recall he caught 4 balls his first game ever. Then the 2nd year obstacles that NC laid out. Missing his SECOND TC with sever food poisoning, and when his second season started, he was out with COVID! But he DID show up his third camp, this camp, in fantastic shape and had spent the off season working hard on the rout trees. He was dominating play with the 2nd team all TC and started getting frustrated that the number games gave him no room to move up the 1rst team. Which meant he'd be on the team, but undressed for games. There was a brief moment to see how Mims could do as a special teamer. But with Jeff Smith and Hardee already entrenched, he did OK but didn't supplant anyone for a starting gig. I keep going back to how excited we were to get him. 6'-3" is a TALL receiver, one we really needed. His great jump ball skills, coming down with over 50% were also great. Oh, and his raw speed. Mims was fastest WR at the combine and is still the fastest WR we have on our team. Add to that he is a dominant and willing blocker in the run game, and we all thought we had finally gotten our guy. his one checkmark against him was he came in not knowing alot about rout trees, especially the rout trees Gase wanted him to run. But his hammies wiped out his TC where rout trees were to be taught. Then the following TC food poisoning wiped-out any hope of coaches working with him, then he contracted COVID. But put aside his struggles staying healthy and all the stuff and just look were his is NOW: Now, he's a 6'-3" very tall WR who is also the fasted player on the team. He's great at openfield blocking in support of the run game, and a great 50-50 ball catcher. Mims spent the last offeason working every day to come into came in perfect shape and had mastered the 3 rout trees the needed him to learn. Every coach/scout seeing him play said he was lightyears better than the yr before. So ya, I'm farirly intersted to give him some games, like the rest of the season. Look, with Hall/AVT lost, our 'safe place' we carved out for Zack to learn at his own slow pace is out the window now. We can't let ZW develop slowly all season, while winning games with our run game. It's ZACK time now, like it or not. Our games will start to look different...more like last year where LeFleur ran the game plans thru Zack's arm. Having a fast 6-3 receiver who excels at winning jump balls and blocks in the run game may be just with Zack could use if he's to take that next step NOW, versus game 17.
The San Francisco 49ers shipped a 2020 fifth-round pick and a 2021 third-round choice to Washington in exchange for offensive tackle Trent Williams
Tunsil is younger than Williams. Maybe a second or third rounder if we are lucky. Probably more than that though.
1 our sanity 2 good player if kept fit, former #5 pick it has got to be high, unless him being out of contract helps the trading team. 2nd, 3rd, and a 5th? Or if being out of contract helps 3rd and a 4th. 3 you would think it would be quite costly still, 2nd plus ?
I’m sure it’ll depend on the market and the Texan’s desire to move on him. He might be worth a 1st; I think he’s only going to cost like $1mm this season and we’d have a stockpile of OT. I wonder if the game on Sunday is going to sway JD on if it needs to happen.
I doubt Houston will be trading Tunsil for anything less than a 1st and even then might need some extra to sweeten it up. Laremy's contract is actually not bad for the team that trades for him. Because of his previous restructures, he was paid large sign in and restructure up front bonuses, which will count towards Texans. if say we trade for him, this year he will only count 1 mil. Next year he will count 18.5 mil for us. Texans will absorb 16.5 mil dead CAP. Now 18.5 mil is not chump change, but that's how much a good lineman is worth, and we will likely try to restructure also. As we discussed in another thread, Zach is top 10 QB in the league when protected, and our line played like shit so far. For reference here are PFF rankings of our remaining linemen: Brown 63 out of 74 Max: 67 out of 74 Fant: 71 out of 74 Laken: 60 out of 76 Herbig: 58 out of 76 McGovern 12 out of 36 Aside of from McGovern, who is above average, the rest, according to PFF, is total shit. And Max and Fant are still hurt with even bigger scrubs behind them. This meets the eye test too where Zach is running for his life with little opportunity to make plays, especially in the least game since AVT got hurt. I think JD waits until very end if he even decides to part with such significant compensation. If we are 6-2, but the line does not perform against NE, maybe he actually does it. This would be an incredible opportunity to make play-offs. Also draft picks would likely not be top 15. Still, 1st rounder is tough to part with, so at 5-3 I don't see it happening. But at 6-2, there is a lot on the line, including development of our QB, so he might do it. Another matter to consider is that both Laremy and Duane only played LT. Not easy decision, but I think something will have to be done if we can get to 6-2, because we cannot waste such opportunity with shit for offensive line.
In addition to the many rumors about Tunsil, I have been reading about three other OL that should be considered. To be fair I am not very familiar with their status at all but they are: Jack Conklin, Justin Pugh nd Cameron Ervin.
You can bet BB will try to stop the run, test the OL all game long and force Zach to beat them with the pass. This will tell JD plenty, and will not get better for the next 4 games. How the line and Zach performs under pressure might be the catalyst to make an additional move or not. We can't forget that we are getting two tackles back from of IR this week, so it will strongly depend IMO on how JD sees the value of the starters this week moving forward.
No one knows what he's thinking. I doubt they'd make either of those moves but if the QB is holding back this team it should be treated like any other position when you can get a short term upgrade for cheap at the deadline
What makes you think that Douglas is looking for a QB? Seriously. The question isn't why does BrowningNagle thin he should be looking for another QB, but why do you think JD is?
I don't think he is, but he has been quick to upgrade at other positions that were weak. Just spitballin'
I think the last paragraph perfectly sums up the difference in thinking btw SOJF and JD. SOJF think this is a fleeting opportunity. JD thinks this is the new norm.
