At some point will the trend of overdrafting QBs with tools and potential but no resume being drafted in the 1st stop? It's early, but looking like two epic busts at the top of the 2021 draft. Players will always be chosen based on potential, but it's insane Lance was drafted 3rd overall with how tiny of a resume he had. At least ZW played football at a high level in college but in hindsight the lack of NFL QB skills was glaring

It’ll be interesting to see where Will Levis from Kentucky goes. Two year starter. Big, strong, durable and decent running ability. So-so production but he played on teams in a big time conference with little support.

My early guess is very high, maybe top 10 with his traits plus I think he played in a pro style offense

Guy who has played almost no meaningful football throughout the course of his collegiate and NFL career might be available? Well I have no idea how a team with an elite defense and top-tier skill players ready to win now could pass up on an opportunity like this.

Hendon Hooker absolutely would need to sit and learn for a year or 2, and he’s already 27 years old. Hard pass on him

I’ve loved watching Hooker play all year but I wouldn’t take him before the 3rd or 4th. I don’t think older age matters that much for these guys any more. In fact, I think it helps quarterbacks. It’s not like a running back or receiver where there’s usually a huge cliff.

Hooker can run, but he’s not a runner. And he has a big arm. I’d take a flyer if he’s there and we haven’t addressed it. He’s also a great kid and very well liked.

They won 7 games this year after winning 4 last. They’re not going anywhere any time soon

An old Hooker seems like a perfect metaphor for this team....

Hooker makes perfect sense for the Rams.

Just to clarify...Hooker is 24, and will be 25 by the draft. Not 27.

I mentioned this in joking last week Zach W for Lance, and that's all it was. Nobody knows what Lance is and I'm not willing to take a flier on him to see if he can play. This team is to advance to wait on a project.

Hooker is intriguing, but he would be a project as well. If we take him in the 4th round then yes. He has great tools and hopefully he recovers from his injury ok.

No more first round quarterbacks, no more projects. We need somebody that can win football games now.

I'm cool with a project backup/potential starter. We're cursed "developing" top flight QBs. I like White's potential, and these 2 games will determine his price tag going into 2023. Albeit, his ability to stay healthy is a bit worrying. So having someone in the roost might be a solid idea. 100% would snap Hooker up in the 4th (any draftnooks wanna chime in where he may land?). If they have the cap room, bring in a vet backup too. The cap/Jets pending free agents are going to make this offseason pretty interesting. I don't see how they would be able to swing something like White & Minshew together, but something of that nature.

Just so we're not hijacking this thread. Lance is an awful idea on this team.

Well, he had ACL surgery in December. He will be on IR all year, and will be 26 before his next training camp. It's like if Zach right now goes back to school for three more years, then declares for the draft again, and he will be the same age as Hooker in his next training camp. I'd rather see how Zach looks in the camp next year than drafting Hooker at this point.

They may be trying to ditch the cap hit so they can re-sign Garappolo without cap trouble.

In that case they clearly do not want another expensive contract back. They probably want picks to try to recoup some of the value in the ridiculous trade up they made to take him.

And yet, here we are....in a thread about acquiring Trey Lance. The Wilson ship has sailed.

I'm all for taking one in the first after the offense becomes established and it's clear whichever vet we have isn't enough to go all the way. The Chiefs did this in 2017, four years after Reid took over.
