Maybe try harder? I don't see how 'stabilise' equals 'hover in mediocrity for the next 5 years'. We badly need a capable player under center, someone who can stick around for a while, not a one- or two-year fix like we've tried so many times before. Stability does not imply mediocrity, and if we had a quarterback we could rely on for a decent amount of time, we might be able to take a young talent and develop him properly rather than chucking him in at the deep end and waiting until the bubbles stop coming to the surface.

Since getting AR doesn't guarantee anything let alone a SB, perhaps its prudent to try to get relevant as a team and competent in the QB room first. This roster is not just a QB away from SB contention. Still gaps in critical areas that need to be filled. If this team had: A great OL, faster LB's that could cover, safeties that could blitz and wrap up? Then by all means back up the Brinks truck for AR. We're perhaps 2 years away from being that version of the Jets. 2 FA's periods and 2 drafts should do it assuming JD, Saleh and his brand new OC staff don't get themselves fired first.
Respectfully no QB or player guarantees a SB as well as no roster in the NFL doesn't have holes. Every competitive roster in the NFL that made the playoffs and competed for a championship last year had "holes" in their roster which is why we have an off-season and draft to try and fill those holes in some capacity to the best of their abilities. IMO you do whatever you can in your power as a GM and organization to compete for a championship year in and year out and if the team feels like they have a chance (which is the vibe I get from the players via interviews, tweets, SM... ) then you make whatever moves reflect that attitude of believing in themselves to give you a chance to win a SB. If they feel like a first ballot hall of famer with something to prove gives them a better shot than someone that was essentially benched last year and is responsible for almost 200 turnovers in their career (interceptions and fumbles) that wants to be paid top 10 QB money then that is what you do.
You are an AR guy. I get that. If the Jets manage to sign AR and get a 2-3year commitment out of the guy? Fine. If you think AR can get THIS roster to the SB in one year? You're dreaming. If he doesn't get it done in 2 years and wants to retire then what? Zach comes riding to the rescue? Worse yet, draft another young QB to ruin.. Thing is, if AR comes in and fails to live up to the hype? Its gonna get real ugly for the 1st ballot HOF QB and no hole will be dark enough to hide in. Carr buys this FO/CS time to fill out the roster. Again, I see a 2 year window before this team is truly ready to go for the VLT. Question is, will AR be around long enough and play well enough to see it through.. I honestly don't know and after 50 years, I really don't dwell on it. You want Rogers.. I want Carr. Lets see what happens.. In the meantime, I have the Knicks, the Mets, the Yanks and the '23 New Jersey fishing season to dwell on. Let the Jets be the Jets and do what the Jets do..

I'd love to have Rodgers or Jackson, but I don't believe either one is switching teams. I think Rodgers is either going to retire or be back in Green Bay. I think Baltimore is going to pay Lamar. And even if they don't, do the Jets want to be the team that gives Lamar Jackson the contract that Baltimore wouldn't in addition to three first round picks? Baltimore is a fantastic organization. Carr is my top choice for guys who I think are legitimate options. He would only cost money, which is really nice. Seems to come with zero baggage. Statistically, if he played up to his averages, he'd be one of the Jets best QBs ever lol.

They weren't, because you picked the ones who weren't. Try Favre, Fitzpatrick, McCown and, if we add him, Rodgers. But this isn't the point anyway. The point is stability does not equal mediocrity.
If you think the Jets signed McCown and Fitzpatrick with the same expectations as they did Hack, Darnold, and ZW we can agree to disagree and move on. To me, A “bridge” QB is link to get from where you are to finding your long term answer at FQB. It’s not something you want to spend time on, you want to get across it as soon as possible. Getting bridge QBs isn’t a strategy, it’s a necessity. But you’re right, they did try this ONCE before… and had a good team until he got injured and left after 1 year. I’ll take my chances on AR not getting hurt or leaving after one year…. But back to the point, thinking of AR as a bridge and hoping for Carr so we can draft another QB in 4 years is SOJF attitude.
Rodgers is the same old Jets move. Missing out on him when he came out and then acquiring him 15-20 years later when he's not nearly as good and just looking for a paycheck. The 'Same OId" Jets have done multiple times. Boomer Esiason, Brett Favre and soon to be Aaron Rodgers
It's not like we completely disagree. I would prefer a player who could come in for eight years, but that player isn't available. So I think a four-to-six year option is the best there is on the table, and hugely preferable to a one- or two-year option. I would say we should be drafting a QB next year or the year after, not in four years, but Carr will be good enough that we don't need to rush the new guy. With Rodgers, we would need to either draft a new quarterback this year, or look for another bridge player next season. Of course, Rodgers may not quit after one year, but there is surely no better than a 50-50 chance of that. And the SOJF stuff is just tired. Could we manage without that?
We can agree to disagree. I personally believe AR is better today than he was on his rookie year. I personally liked winning when Favre was the QB I personally do not believe Boomer was ever in the GOAT convo and shouldn’t be compared to AR. Like I said, we can agree to disagree.
