Think about this for a bit. Think hard. When was the last time we saw SUPERIOR QB play from a Jets quarterback? I can't saw it was Fitzpatrick because he was bailed out so many times by Brandon Marshall and at the end of the day he absolutely chocked in a "win and in" game. He did throw a lot of TD's though. You could make a case.

I can't say Josh McCown either, even though he had a career year. I could see someone making a case for him though.

I can't say Favre because of his injury. Yes he played great up until then, but by the end of the year he threw as many int's as TD's (22).

For me, I think you have to go all the way back to 2002 and Chad Pennington. The caveat is he started only 12 of 16 games but he was a superior QB for that time. That's 21 fucking years ago. Let that sink in. For over two decades now we can look at 3 single season QB performances....Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh McCown and Chad Pennington.

If I'm missing someone please chime in. It's been so long since I've seen great QB play by a Jets QB that I've almost forgotten what it feels like.

Ryan Fitz was the last. The defense choked that win and in game not him. Sammy Watkins and his career day was not his fault against a WASHED Revis.

You though his play was superior throughout the season? He had good games but overall? Nope

Considering what McCown had to work with, I'd say him.

Having the most playoff wins has got to count for something...

Like I said in the original post, I think you can make that argument. Who would you put next?

Is wins a QB stat or a team stat?

Fitz set the TD record so it would have to be him.
Then Chad 02, Vinny 98, KOB in 86.

It's in Buffalo, Defense couldn't stop Tyrod Taylor after that winning streak they came out flat. Im not saying he was great that game whatsoever. You cannot pin that loss on him. That defense was dogshit that day

I understand Fitz set the TD record but do you feel his entire body of work that year represented superior QB play? His completion percentage was less than 60% I think Chad's season was better. But I respect your opinion on this.

Agreed but you said "the last time", not the best time.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but those 3 picks by Fitz were all in the second half.

    Brutal.

Whatever your answer is, suffice to say "superior QB play" and the "the Jets" are almost oxymoronic. It's a clear indictment of their almost total disregard of the importance of the QB position for decades. It's almost like after Kenny O and their failure to win a SB with him, they said, "Well we've tried to win with offense and it doesn't work so we're just going to ignore that side of the ball and try to win with defense". You've got to give them credit for persistence (or obstinance).

Say what you will about Douglas drafting Zach, he at least showed an understanding of the fact that you need a great (or at least close to great) QB to win a SB in this era. If he whiffed on his evaluation of Wilson, it doesn't erase the fact that he tried. And in going after AR now he continues to show that he understands you need a great QB - even an older one - to have the best chance of winning. This understanding is night and day different from all previous GMs/HCs the Jets have had in decades, and is why I remain confident that Douglas will eventually be successful in building a sustainable winning team.

Aaron Rodgers is going to look like 98 Vinny next season. We have a 2 yr Super Bowl window now. What a time to be a Jet Fan!!
