Unless I missed it those shirts didn't appear until Mike White was the quarterback and the team was looking for a new beginning to a disappointing season to date. It was about pulling together with what they had and turning things around. Those shirts were not around when Wilson was the QB. Creating controversy over something designed to promote a better future has always seemed a stretch by those looking out for individuals rather than the team.
You know, all joking aside, it makes sense for Zach Wilson to get the majority of snaps during the pre-season games, doesn't it?
I think it all depends upon a couple of things. One is how long Rodgers actually plays. If he only plays one year, then the Jets could bring in a vet to make Zach earn/win the starting job, and he could. If Rodgers plays two years, then yes, Zach will probably be trying to win a starting job elsewhere unless he improves enough and shows enough in TC and preseason this year or if Rodgers gets hurt and Zach plays during the regular season this year or next that the Jets decide to pick up his 5th year. Two, I think it also depends upon how Zach looks at practice, preseason games, and how he handles sitting. If he shows that he has regained his confidence, fixed his fundamentals, looks poised in the pocket, and his accuracy improves back to where it was at BYU, then he could still be the Jets FQB. That may or may not happen. We'll know in time. JD's actions to bring in a "real" QB had more to do with getting to the playoffs this season and to start winning so that Saleh and JD could keep their jobs. IMO it means that he knew that Zach needed to time to fix his issues and develop, NOT that they have given up on him. Zach wouldn't have been able to fix his issues and develop if he was playing this season. The Jets had to have a starting QB. There is also a reason that they chose Rodgers rather than Carr. Not only is Rodgers a much better QB than Carr, he can help teach and get this offense and Zach where they need to be. He gives the Jets a great chance to not only get into the playoffs, but potentially get to and win a SB. He also is only likely to play 1 or 2 years, whereas Carr would have been here probably 3-5 years. IMO if they had opted to sign Carr, that would probably have meant that they had given up on Zach. I suppose that they could have given Zach an opportunity to compete for the starting QB job in a year, but QB competitions can be dangerous, and they can divide the lockerroom. Carr may have balked at having to compete for the starting job next season, so I think that if they had signed Carr, it would have meant that they had given up on Zach, and were only keeping him because they had to capwise. They wouldn't have had to trade draft capital to get Carr, and he would have been cheaper than Rodgers, so don't you think that if they had given up on Zach, it would have been more advantageous for them to simply sign Carr? I think one of the reasons they opted for Rodgers is that it still gave Zach a window of opportunity to turn things around and be their FQB.
Anybody who thought those t-shirts were a good idea has little understanding of team sport. You don't shit on a teammate... especially when you may have to rely on him again. Those t-shirts promoted a future alright... 0-6 to close out the season.
How were they shitting on a teammate? they were supporting a teammate actually, Mike White Am I missing something? Did the awful, mean, shirts say something negative? As I understand it they were supportive in nature
After the t-shirts? I gotta check the timeline... but I remember them losing every game after the shirts were debuted.
Of course, but that will happen if he becomes the Jets QB of the future. I seriously doubt that JD or Saleh would be willing to settle for just competent at this point. Zach will have to prove that he can play at a high level and his issues are mostly behind him for the Jets to extend him and rely on him after Rodgers is gone.
Seriously? They were shitting on Zach. It doesn't matter than they were supporting Mike White. Zach was still on the team, and Saleh and JD were saying that they still believe in Zach.
Exactly! It was a totally stupid thing to do, but then no one ever said that football players were the sharpest pencils in the box.
It wasn't a T shirt that sent Wilson to the bench; it was his performance on the field and at the podium. And it was Wilson who swung the cleaver that split the team.
it takes much more than starting games to be a franchise quarterback. Even you have never claimed Wilson as an example of a leader in the NFL.
