In 2020 he earned Pro Football Focus All-America Second Team, Phil Steele All-America honorable mention, Co-Polynesian College Player of the Year and finished No. 8 in the Heisman Trophy voting. A team captain in 2020, Wilson was a Manning Award Finalist, Walter Camp Player of the Year Semifinalist, Maxwell Award Semifinalist and Davey O’Brien Semifinalist.
Hopefully.... we can all dream. But I guess we can appreciate how bad he was now, as it essentially brought in Aaron Rodgers. If he even played at a Sam Darnold level that probably doesn't happen (yes, the bar is that low) but does anyone actually think he gets offered a 5th year option now without seeing the field barring disaster? Thankfully we now have an exciting season (s) to look forward to....
Yeah, I agree that the best ZW can hope for at this point is a backup quarterback contract. And he only gets offered this if he continues to show progress in practice.
Now that Roger's is signed the writing is on the ball. We will trade Wilson next year for a draft pick. Watch
Anything's possible, but I don't see that happening. Rodgers is around 40 years old. I doubt it will, but his body could start breaking down on him. Their window is small with Rodgers, so the Jets need a viable backup, and will need a QB once Rodgers retires. If Zach is developing and finally becoming the player that they thought he would be when they made him the second pick in the draft, why would they trade him? That makes zero sense to me.
What kind of draft pick are you getting for Zach. A 4th, 5th? Rodgers is 40. He gives them a QB for 2 years, but the long-term QB situation is something JD will have to figure out. They hope Zach works out but if not, then there is the draft or FA.
That was for Zach's sophomore season when he was coming off of injury. He was a captain for his junior season.
I disagree that is the best that he can hope for. Depending upon his relationship with Saleh, Hackett and Douglas, if he shows beyond a shadow of a doubt that his fundamentals are fixed, his accuracy has returned, that he is comfortable in the offense, is practicing confidently, and plays well in preseason action, and any mop up duty action he may get during the season, I think they could offer him an incentive-laden deal with escalators in it that if met, would increase his compensation, add guaranteed money, and extend the length of the contract. If he's happy here with the Jets, he could opt to stay or he could opt to try FA. They could also let him try FA but tell him that they want him back and will match and exceed any reasonable offers. A lot can happen between then and now that will impact the situation.
Also, there was already a thread discussing trading Wilson. @Brook!, please merge this thread into the existing thread. Thanks!
Unless… and just hear me out. When AR spoke to the FO and wanted to know ZW was going to be a part of the future bc he believes in ZW…. There’s a small chance that you know, everyone meant what they said.
LMAO! "With the 200th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.... the New York Jets select..... Heywood Jablomeee. Kicker, Northern Louisiana Culinary Institute.
I sure hope not. Rodgers is sketchy and unreliable. He might quit mid-season. Everything is rosy right now in Jets fan's world. Keep Zach let him gain some more knowledge. There is no Mike White so it's Zach for now. Still think Zach can play in this league.
Holy fuck can this idiotic stance please fucking die already??? They’re not trading him! Get it through your fucking head!
Should have kept White as the backup and cut bait with Wilson this year. But that ship has sailed. Next offseason he will be moved, and we likely draft a QB to develop while bringing in a viable backup. For this season, just pray Rodgers doesn’t miss any time.
Seasons over if AR goes down--we really needed to get a viable backup. Still mystified why we didn't make a play for Minshew early on. Would have put us in a better negotiating position re: AR trade too. Maybe we wouldn't have had to swap picks and lose out on Broderick Jones.
