I think because this draft is so deep in WR talent, we can afford to wait until rounds 2 or 3 to get a tall guy in there. I wouldn't want our #1 to be a WR unless if Johnson falls (very doubtful) or if Jarrett is there (and that's just a maybe). Woodley seems almost too good of a fit if he's there to pass up on.

    A 4th / 5th rounder....

IMO, Drae Allison is the type of WR we so desparately need. He is a speed WR that catches EVERYTHING!

From what I saw of him on TV this year I thought he was a pretty good route runner that came out of his breaks VERY WELL......, which we all know is how speed in the NFL is gaged.....if it wasn't Jonathan Carter would still be playing.

I'll admit that in the one game I saw him his blocking was not very good, more along the lines of awful, but is that really necessary for a 3rd WR? Wherever he goes he is gonna be the guy that stretches the field. He is not the type pof player that comes in motion and cracks doewn on an OLB, or safety (i.e. Coctchery).

Anyway, he is my sleection for sleeper pick at WR this year... Reminds me of Brandon Stokley.....

Yes. Set. With 8 and 9 men in the box, and defenses dont fear blitzing.... Forever......Tape doesn't lie.

I like Jeff Samardzija he reminds me alot of Easy Ed Mccaffrey from the broncos he was clutch in high pressure situations. i saw a couple of games from notre dame and jeff looks very strong and deceptive speed

i think with coles and cotchery they are both speedy receivers to me and if we added a Jeff Samardzija or similar style player we would be set we need the 3rd down/red zone player that we lacked. majority of the times when we came down inside the 20 yard line we ended up kicking a field goal. we will never beat the patriots colts chargers with a field goal mind we need 7 75-85% of the time in that area and on 3rd down

I not necessarily saying draft a receiver on the first day off the draft but thats position we should upgrade. i like tim dwight but he really didnt make a drastic change and punt return and J-mac seemed to rub mangini the wrong way though i like his style of play. and first day doesnt mean first round either!!

i havent read any posts here....

why in gods name would we draft a wr on day 1, if at all? we have other MAJOR needs to fill, and our picks are better spent doing that. at worst, we could get a so so wr in rd 6 or 7....cut dwight (never been a fan of his) and go into next year with coles/cotch/jmac/smith/?? on the depth chart. let leon return the punts (or miller)....but drafting a wide out on day one....never.....unless jarrett falls to 26th (never gonna happen).

At the same time, if no one with enough value is worth taking with the 1st pick, or 2nd pick, or whatever, you don't just pick because of need if you can take someone later on that fills that need. At times, you have to take value, and if it happens to be a WR, so be it. But if the right DT/DE/OLB is there, you take him.

Your happy with jmac the lazy guy. dwight a.k.a washed up, and brad smith the project.

I would Not be mad at drafting John Lee Higgins, or anthony gonazles in the later part of day one, there is way too much talented guys for us to just ignore.

Now I agree, we need to adress defense and other things, but getting a guy like anthony gonzales fot the slot would not be a bad thing.

I see your points and they make some sense. When you hav enough talent at all your imortant positions BPA is great. I think we are a couple years away for being able to pick strictly BPA.

A very fair argument. The one thing I'd say is that if McCareins is gone (which appears quite likely), a Ginn, Rice or Jarrett could immediately be a #3 WR. If that is the case, there is a good chance that they will be as much of an impact player in 2007 as many of the draft options that have been presented.

EXACTLY. This class is too deep at the WR position to just sleep on. As one falls, the whole bunch will too. First round is probably D-Line or OLB, but second round is it a possibility to get a talented receiver? absolutely.

If somebody good drops to Round 2 - maybe, similar to Chad Jackson w/ the Pats last year and we still have to see if he really is any good.
