Rodgers hasnt played in the preseason since 2018. He has sucked ass last 2 seasons in the first game of the season getting blown out both years. He needs to play in this game, Bob Saleh should be on that. Rodgers doesnt run the team.... yet.
If nothing else, let the starting OLine get some game time together while Rodgers keeps his headset on. I would hate to see the Jet offense use the first several games of the regular season to get the starting offense in synch. I know everyone is paranoid about injuries, but they happen no matter what so why not let the 1 stringers actually see the field this game. Definitely NOT the last game where everyone is fighting for their professional football lives and anything goes.
Rodgers got 3 whole plays on 11-on-11 joint practices last week. A 3 and out and he struggled to get a pass off. I dont think that was a good tune up -- Also Hackett's offense is vanilla now and vanilla in the regular season. He hasn't tricked anyone in his 20 years of coaching. A career that got started because of his dad, who also didn't trick anyone in 40 years of coaching They need to play Rodgers and the 1st team offense against a live opponent. Execution is the focus
Considering the 1st game of the year is against our toughest rival for the division this is a game the Jets really can't afford to lose. I know it's only one game but it's a home divisional game. Have to win these to have a shot at the division. Lose here and the Bills will have a good chance to sweep the Jets. Don't want to start out 0-1 at home and 0-1 in the division. It may not be a true must win but it's as close to one as you can get.
2021 was a long time ago in football years. Especially when you're over 35. Rodgers didn't have to play in the preseason up in GB because he already knew the gameplan and the players. Here? He's still getting to know the OLine guys and the WR's he didn't have in GB. People put a lot of stock in practices but its still not a real game. We're up against our toughest opponent in week one and everything needs to be working for us to win. I know Rodgers is a HOF QB but he's also 39yo and can't just roll his helmet on the field and win. His OLine isn't good enough yet to be able to just turn it on at the flick of a switch either. Maybe Rodgers doesn't need to play the preseason, but can you honestly say the OLine doesn't need to?
That's the big question. Rodgers had a down year by his standards last year. Was it because he didn't have as much talent around him on offense as in previous years. Or is father time starting to catch up to him. Not everyone can "Tom Brady" father time. Either way he is still way better than what we had last year.
Final decision? Will you sit this season out except the Miami game? Will you at least come to Tampa Bay game to catch up?
Acad Injuries happen everywhere. Maybe make a gentleman's agreement with Bowles and play starters for 1 quarter and no cheap shots etc. It is doable in my opinion.
I think the OL worries are being overblown with the camp practices b/c of how good our front 7 actually is. Look at what our 2nd/3rd string rushers did to the Panthers starting OL just last week. Our OL was middle of the pack and the run game was humming before AVT went down last year. His return + a seasoned vet in Rodgers at QB is going to drastically improve the OL from what we saw the final 6 weeks of the season IMO.
That may all be true, but we're not playing the Panthers week one. We're playing a top 5 defense who collectively are a quantum leap ahead of the Panther DLine. Its gonna take time for this OLine to find a groove is what I'm saying and I'm not sure we have a lot of time for them to figure things out. The saying goes "can't play scared" and that I think also applies to potential injuries. Rodgers' health depends on the OLine being far better than last years version. Can't get there from being on the sidelines not playing in real games. Practices are good, but there's no replacement for real time, real game experience. Rodgers has decades of it. This OLine doesn't.
Carolina and Buffalo had nearly identical advanced defensive metrics last year in terms of pressuring, qb hit %, sacks, and knock downs. It ain't that big of a difference.. lol I think people are drastically over valuing preseason. It means nothing anymore. We can just agree to disagree about this b/c I feel like we are beating a dead horse going back and forth at this point. Just make it to 9/11 healthy baby. That is all I ask.
well duh but unfortunately a MVP is not a given conclusion. And training camp/preseason is about being prepared for week 1
Now I am thinking maybe he won't play Saturday night. Rich Cimini on Twitter: "After releasing a pass (interception), Aaron Rodgers clutches his left calf. He’s limping around, but stays in for the next play. This was his “good” calf. Injured the right in OTAs. #Jets" / X
Please Lord... don't let this guy suddenly become a 39yo porcelain doll. He's gonna get hit this year so I just hope his body can still take the wear and tear. Our OLine isn't exactly made of 5 All Pros..
