Rodgers probably won't play this weekend, but Allen will. Sal Capaccio on X: "Starters will play about a quarter and a half Saturday at Steelers. Josh Allen will start" / X (twitter.com)
Nobody is going to play their starters in the preseason finale. This is the week when starters will play the most. The fact that Allen and Bills starters are getting some game action could be an advantage week 1. Shake off the rust and get used to playing again. You can't simulate game action in practice no matter how hard teams try.
I get they don't want him to get injured, but you can get injured in any game, practice, scrimmage. Don't be surprised if the Jets offense is out of sync on 9/11. Rodgers first game with a new OL, new playmakers it may take some time to get in a rhythm. The Bills are playing the Steelers on Saturday. The Steelers defense (Tomlin announced his starters will play into the 2nd quarter) is very similar to the Jets in that they are physical and aggressive. McDermott having his starters play against them helps them get ready for what comes there way on 9/11.
Greg I also wanted Rodgers play this Saturday. To me it wasn't about him being ready against the Bills defense. It was more like getting acclimated to Metlife and fans etc. It would be a good night for him and the fans.
For me it's about getting used to playing with his new teammates more so than the stadium, but the Bills defense is also pretty good. I wasn't expecting Rodgers and the starters to play a lot on Saturday, but I was hoping for a series or two.
Brook. Rodgers is a veteran HOF QB. He doesn't need to get used to the MetLife stadium and crowd. Now if you want to say he needs to play some with the starters in live game action, then I can see that either way. The stadium stuff isn't a concern at all. He's been doing this for a while
Neither team is going to be gameplanning for a preseason game. Who cares. Why are we ignoring the fact that Matt Stafford literally went to the Rams (a new system, new playmakers, new scheme, etc) and went on to win the Super Bowl in the same year while playing no starters in preseason?
I get that it is a vanilla game plan but still it would be nice to see Rodgers and company get some work in against a real opponent in live game action. Andy Reid thought it was important for Mahomes to play last week and the Chiefs won 2 Super Bowls recently. I guess there are pro's and con's to play the starters or sitting them.
Really stupid. Rodgers and everyone on the 1st team offense should play. Saleh cancels joint practices, guys can sit out if/when they want, and he doesn't make them play in the preseason. Hard to see this team being ready week 1
How old is Mahomes? How old is Rodgers? Who is more susceptible to injury? Sure it could happen any time but the less he plays against people trying to smash him the better.
Rodgers knows how to read a defense as well as anybody in the league. If he sees a Bucs player getting anywhere near him then he will just throw it away. This is more about Rodgers getting some playing time with his new teammates in a live game. I was only hoping for a couple of series. Even with the Jets piss poor OL I doubt Rodgers gets hit in this game. No way he would hold on to the ball too long and take a shot in a meaningless game.
Just cant believe with a new offensive coordinator, new QB and multiple new starters they dont want to use opportunities to get ready for the season. This is a big mistake by Saleh everything is the same on the defense. If anything those are the guys that can afford to sit
It's the Heatles treatment. Soak up the glow of our NFL Superfriends. On the bright side, they are getting some really good looks at Wilson against NFL teams with a broad range of supporting cast. Not bad for your backup.
Yes my friend, I won’t be at the games at least until November. Got a health condition I got to take care of first…I’m confident in my medical team and the current Jets team as well. I didn’t give up the playoff tickets!!!!
