I found the following on another Jets fan site. It's from a Cimini article. If Cimini is right, then this pretty much shows that Saleh is a liar, since he said that Becton could compete for the starting LT job with Brown, and then just recently said that he wasn't practicing with the 1s because he had to prove that he could play a whole game first, because otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the OL. The latter was always a lame, dumbass excuse. If the other OL don't like it, too bad! They can get more talented than Becton or go play elsewhere. They should want to in, and our best chance of winning is with Becton on the field. Becton is either our best OL or 2nd best behind AVT.
By all means it seems like everyone is on board with the plan laid out and it makes perfect sense honestly. It may not have happened the way we wanted it to but it looks like the end result will be the one we all wanted. As long as that happens I’ll have a hard time complaining about how we arrived there.
Please provide a “source” for the lies. The only thing I remember about the “LT competition” was in early June when S said “Brown would be a hard out” meaning it would be hard for someone to take his job. Do these lies exist in the world or are they just in your head?
1 sack and 2 pressures in 63 snaps (equivalent of a game for the most part give or take). How the fuck does that get an 80+ grade? That’s pretty bad for a tackle. At the same time, this is realistically Becton’s last real shot at redeeming himself and getting a moderate second contract. If that’s not motivation enough, I don’t know what is. Most teams wouldn’t really feel like dealing with a player that can’t control their weight when moneys on the line. From what I’ve seen, the book on him is the same. When he’s against smaller speed rushers he’ll struggle and need a tightend to help. Other than that, he can still be a good tackle and has great feet to match his size to smother most edge rushers.
As much as you like to slam Saleh and "coachspeak" does not always tell the whole story, there's nothing here that indicts Saleh as a "liar." Nothing in Cimini's piece, particularly none of the quote from Becton's agent says or implies that Becton cannot compete for the LT job but it does explain why he is only now working at the RT position. There is also the needs of the team and taking everyone else out of the equation if Brown does not play the right side at all and Becton can play it the only answer is to get Becton ready for the right side. If Brown is not ready to play week one then the logical move is to put 77 on the left and find somebody else to take the right. As somebody mentioned above Salehs competition statement was made many weeks ago - things change.
He’s earned the right to run with the 1s vs. the Giants at RT. We will know around 9 PM if he’s good to go for wk 1 as RT. Who is playing LT for wk 1??
One thing being missed here is Becton doesn't (or at least didn't) want to play RT because they make less money. That's why he was insisting in the offseason "I'm a left tackle" whenever the media would ask him about moving to RT. I think the "more strain on his knee at RT" stuff from his agent is all BS to make it look like he's not being selfish about money.
If you told me in the off season that Becton was going to be playing ~25 snaps per pre-season game and looking reasonably decent I'd have been thrilled. If he can stay healthy he should only get better - here's hoping.
I don't remember if it was a sack or just a pressure allowed, but there was one play in the Panthers game that was complete miscommunication between Becton and whoever the LG was. I want to say Colon off the top of my head, but I really have no idea who the LG was. If that's one of the only plays he has given up as a sack or pressure then I'm fine with those numbers in 63 snaps. He was very good last night and I hope he continues to improve this Saturday against the Giants.
It was the classic big man mistake. Not sure who to hit, Becton hit no one and gave up the sack he was good last night, it’s just so damn hard to trust because he could injure himself next week or tomorrow in practice
How did you turn that article Into a negative OP? Damn mannnn... I felt good after reading the article, then you took a hard left out of nowhere. What happened?
All this talk about Becton and Brown has not even practiced yet. We need Brown to play decent. Becton at RT and the line will be fine. Brown sucks or takes a bit to come back the line will struggle and that is if everyone else stays healthy.
Far and away the best tackle on the team, Left or Right. And so far the only Tackle on the team I am comfortable protecting Rodgers.
