Another thing you have to take into account is that Mcneil did not go up against 1 elite DE NOT 1. ARE YOU AWARE OF THAT CHAMP? ARE YOU?
I agree with you. When I first saw this, I hesitated p[osting it. But we are JETS fans and we should discuss articles of this nature.
All I had to read was the first sentence of this article to know this guy is another in a long line of hacks who just quote each other and come up with inate stats to try and prov e thier argument... didn't live up to the hype... what does he expect this guy to come in and play Like Walter Jones in year one... common... Ellis
"Did the Jets get their money's worth this year out of D'Brickashaw Ferguson, who was competent but far from dominant as a rookie? Likely not, and they paid dearly for him." This guy really is a shmuck... He should be banned from writing any football articles for all time since he has no knowledge of football. Ellis
Yes, let's be fair and objective. I just looked at the TD pass to Cotchery again. Pennington let the ball go at the 16 yard line, and Cotchery caught it at the 41. The LOS was at the 23. That would be a pass that went 25 yards in the air, and yes, it was very crisp. Don't tell me I'm being unfair and not objective when you don't have a clue.... 6 yards? If you want to call me out, at least get your facts straight. Funny, you're the one with misinformation, but you accuse me of it. This guy is still an asswipe. Ferguson didn't live up to WHAT hype? he did EXACTLY what anyone who followed the draft already knew. He's vulnerable to the bull rush and isn't a good run blocker.... yet.
You know last year all the excuses makers were saying exactly the SAME thing that you posted about Nuge an his KOs. They used such arguments as he was not used to the NFL ball etc, etc & now after year 2 he is still not furnishing us with TBs is he? Do you think I am unaware that Brick is a rookie & as a NYJ fan I certainly hope he turns into superman & time will tell if that occurs? Meanwhile another LT drafted by SD went way past him as a ROOKIE also & he was drafted in round 2 not the 4th overall pick like Brick was. Now tell me why the SD LT excelled while Brick was just average being both were ROOKIES?
Thank U 4 the info BTW do not get down about people ragging on U those same people were fervant Herm supporters & when he exited for redder pastures all of them but one did not have the gumtion to fess up & say they were incorrect in there support of Herm
If you look into the Abe thread you see I called Mangold a grand slam HR. For Tbird & U go check it out Here is the link http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=17422&page=2
Hey CJ, I LOVED the Mangold pick. Still do. I however did not like the Ferguson pick. I was in deep man love with Cutler, and still am, but it is what it is now, little point in complaining. What does but me is I kept telling people that both Mangold and Ferguson will need some patience as they develop. It is VERY rare for a McNeil or a Mangold to play so well in their rookie years. Those two rookies are much more the exception than the rule. Now, Ferguson will go through the off season program. Let's hope he can get stronger and improve the power blocking part of his game. He had trouble in college keeping wieght on too. Being that his home is so close to Hofstra, I'm sure he'll be at the training facilty almost every day, we know he has that sort of work ethic at least.
Yes & while lots of people here do not like to hear it so far what ESPN said about him when drafted seems to be hitting the nail right on the head sorry to say. My concern was & is that when U pick a OLman with the 4th overall pick & he turns out to not be a superstar then to my way of thinking we pass on a amazing chance to get a GAME changing player. I to like you can only hope that Brick makes a quantum leap next season. As for Mangold we should thank the FB gods that he lasted to #29 pick. He has it all +++++++++++++ he has that meanness that is required on the OL & which up to now Brick lacks. No difference then on the DL where Sean E & DeW both lack that meanness which is why they will never be anything more then just average
There are long term injury concerns over Marcus McNeil: he has a chronic spinal condition that could mean a much shortened career. That is why he slipped so far in the draft: he is a risky pick, even with his ability. He cannot do the work in the gym that other players do, and gets by with raw ability. He is an exceptional talent, but after a few years of wear and tear we'll see where he's at with things.
Well for all your posted he sure had a far better season then the Brick did so maybe a lot of what you say is just media BS. No different then when pretty boy Danny was drafted the spin was he smoked the weed which is why his stock dropped so much & which probably since Hess was the owner we took KOB over him
I have no doubt that McNeil is a fantastic OT: he's certainly sizably larger than D'Brick. His spinal condition was widely publisized pre-draft: he definitely has it and it is no creation of the media. It isn't the type of condition you want if you are running around in the NFL for a number of years: who knows? Maybe he'll have no problems until he retires, but then again he could have problems next year....thus the reason he slipped in the draft.
Mc NEIL had a great season for SD. he dominated his opponents. FERGY did OK. I was a bit disappointed with his play. he was NOT great in the run game and did weaken in the pass game late in the year. He showed some very good skills earlier. IMO it is way too early to compare the careers of DBRICK and Marcus. Lets re-visit this in a few years.
You know this how? By watching all the tape, listening to all the pundits or just guessing because it is what some of the others on a forum message board say? Light years ahead. Amazing how you who have never even seen McNeil play, yet can make a claim like that. Even if the light year comment is correct, who did they take in that spot? Who in your otherwordly football knowledge was better and not a reach at that spot? Who AJ Hawk, Davis, anyone else? I love when people come on here and say we should have taken Mcneil in round 2, Colston in 7 etc. etc. etc. Like the FO can go back in time cherry pick every great pick from other teams and wipe out mistakes. Sorry, the only glaring mistake this Front Office made during the draft was Schlegal. The only one. Personally before I cay McNeil is light years ahead, I want to see the reverse happen. Give Brick a HOF running back and a cup cake schedule in comparison to the murderer's row of DE's he faced on a weekly basis. Then and only then will I say light years. Like I said he tired at the end. Until that time he was doing very well. To sit here and mentally masturbate yourself to death over a draft pick we did not get and smart one we made that has not turned into an all pro in his first year is folly. Then again look who I am talking to.
Well 1st of all I would greatly appreciate that you since you do not know me you ask me 1st before posting totally unfounded allegations about me Since you seemed you missed this one in the thread we will try again Mc NEIL had a great season for SD. he dominated his opponents. FERGY did OK. I was a bit disappointed with his play. he was NOT great in the run game and did weaken in the pass game late in the year. He showed some very good skills earlier. IMO it is way too early to compare the careers of DBRICK and Marcus. Lets re-visit this in a few years. Cimini called him a mild disappointment as did ESPN. If you disagree that Brick certainly did not live up to the hype of a #4 overall choice that is fine with me but just like you I have my HO of a player & since this is the board where to state those views I did so there is no need to make a knee jerk very nasty reply to my post as you did.
Nothing was unfounded you did not watch him play. I did not miss anything. It certainly was not knee jerk or an ad-hominem attack. I have read tons of your posts to come up with my previous reply. In the same way you use use Cimini and ESPN to form your opinion, I used my own two eyes and your own posts to formulate my thesis. It is not rocket science ..............really. Am I disappointed in Brick that he was not on the level of A. Munoz, Walter Jones, Ogden, Pace or whomever NO. Am I disappointed that he did not keep the pace up from the beginning of the season YES. Pennington was crushed about an order of magnitude less than he was in the past. Ferguson had a year under his belt where he faced just about every top five DE in the league certainly the vast majority in the top 10. He did this on a weekly basis. He tired at year end. So what, there are more pressing needs on this team than left tackle now!
Sorry guy I have 2 DTV receivers (posted many, many times) so I have watched him play since I can watch 2 SEPERATE games aat any given time. Then I can also watch OTHER games being broadcasted on the local TV channels. So again your charges are totally unfounded & again before posting something about someones habits you should know the person personally
LOL I have never worked on a farm before but I imagine this is what a male bovines excrement smells like. Very pungent aroma. Anyway have a great day and good luck to you. I am going to watch the other playoff games. Enjoy on the HD DTV receivers, I just have cable.
