Considering the Ravens have Ngata, what do you think about signing Gregg. He's not too old; the FO already proved they'll sign a veteran in Kimo last season. But seriously, this guy is the hard-nosed nt we could use in the 3-4
Ravens.... Kelly Gregg- Age 30 6-foot, 307-pounds He had seven solos against the Colts and a half sack
i dont think he is big enough to play NT though .. but if we keep dRob on NT then i think he would be a good pickup for DE
so i think it would be wise for our FO to show him some love. This is the type of guy that can be the Pete Kendall for our defense. You can see the lunch pale on the damn field: that's how blue-collar this guy is!....i'm pretty sure he can play the d-end spot, too.
Yeah, because all those "Lunch Pail" signings we made last year worked out great-- everyone on this board is SCREAMING to replace them. Kassel, Kimo, Chatham- they all suck. This isn't last year, when we had 20 holes to fill with 3 million cap space. We need a couple upgrades, and we have the cash to spend. Why get another crappy stopgap for the most imporant spot on out Defense?
Considering the Ravens have Ngata-- that pretty much summed it all up right there. They obviously want him replaced- why do we want their leftovers?
what makes you think Gregg is "crappy". Poll any Ravens fan and "crappy" would not be a word to describe the guy. I don't know a lot about him but he can be a great guy on the line. You only need a superstar at one position: Quarterback. Just ask the damn Patriots. Is Troy Brown a "stop gap" guy just because he is older. Veterans tend to make plays to win the game, like stripping the ball after your QB throws an interception. Asante Samuels is a bad signing. He tattoed loads of cash on his biceps to show the world he "wants to get paid".
Is he a UFA this off-season? If so, I go after Gregg ASAP because I've always thought he was under-rated and Ngata was credited with a 2 yard stuff of Addai early in that game when #97 Gregg was really the man who made the key stop on the 3rd down. Is he a UFA though is the big question because I don't believe he is...
There aren't any top level DTs (especially 3-4 ones) available in free agency. There's a reason that the few that exist are locked up before they ever hit free agency. There are top level players at the Jets other areas of need (CB, OLB, OG). This is why guys such as Asante Samuel, Lance Briggs, Eric Steinbach, etc. have been brought up as offseason priorities.
Well, while I'm asking the Pats about their 1 superstar, maybe I'll ask them about TY Warren, Vince Wilfork, and Richard Seymore!!! Are you dumb??? Those guys are superstars, and are as big a reason for that teams success as anyone!!
Seymour yes. Don't tell me you'd put Warren and Wilfork in Canyon, would you. A lot of that is Bellicheck, too.
no but your alluding to Gregg's age as a factor in not signing him. And I'm telling you that veteran players aren't worthless to consider when signing free agents. If you want sexier, younger names to put on a uniform, your entitled. I'm glad you vehemently reject the thought of a player over 30, or considered a stop-gap.
Canyon, probably not. Perhaps Canton though. If you don't think those guys are 2 of the best in the league, you are crazy. Ty Warren had 84 tackes, 7.5 sacks 4 passed defended, a forced fumble, and a recovered fumble. That team with Kelly Gregg in the middle, and Kimo on the other end wins 8 games this year.
I have a problem with fans who try to be cap conscious, and ONLY focus on Big name signings as poor spending. I'll tell you what, I'd much rather over pay for a very good player, like Coles, than pay Kimo a 3 million signing bonus that ends up being a 2 million cap hit the next year. its signings like that that BURY a team. All those signings we made a few years ago with guys in their 30's or approaching-- Vinny, Chrebet, Fabini, Mawae, M Jones, M Lewis-- all of those ended up being a few million each for a hit. That leads a team into years of issues. Then, they try to make up for it with more stopgaps- like Donnie Abraham, Reggie Tounge, Chester McGlocton, Curtis Conway, Kimo Etc. Lets not keep making the same mistakes.
I would also like to hear 3 good signings we have made in the last 5 years that involved a starter over 30? Someone who played well for at least 2-3 years, and didn't have a nasty cap hit. I'd love to hear this answer.
donnie abraham we signed to a contract with the hopes of him producing like Samuels did this season; he was a bust. I will be honest: with our history of free-agent signing, any Jets fan can understandly be gun-shy. I still think we can go after the top free agents, but gregg would be a nice signing to boot.
