if this guy is sitting there for us in the 1st rd . i hope we take him. . now i know safety is not a major need but nelson is Ed reed type player. he can be that good and have huge impact on the defense. nelson & Rhodes could give us one of the best safety duos in the league, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zw7nxl4qa4&mode=related&search= Just watch this vid and tell me this kid couldnt have a impact on our defense.
Sorry, the highlight film is really something but we can't ignore more pressing needs like DT/LB/CB and RB before we'd even look at safety. That being said, the guy looks like a real beast and whoever lands him certainly has a "player" on their hands....
Neslon is a really versatile player who could also play some corner. He wouldn't be my first choice but if the top DE, RB, OR CB's are gone he'd add some serious talent to our D and I'm never opposed to that.
It's likely that Woodley, Carriker and Okoye won't be there at 25. In that case I'd love to see them draft him. Yes, both lines and the LB position are pressing needs, but you can't limit yourself on draft day, and I think the front office gets that. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=17546 Nelson is a talent and I'd love to have him on this team. I could also see the Pats going for him to replace Harrison. Why'd they have to land one spot ahead of us?
I'm a Gator fan and Nelson is the real deal. We have much more pressing needs at RB and NT, but if we cannot get value there at 26, we need to draft the best player available or trade down to accumulate picks.
I have to agree. While Nelson is a serious force and a huge playmaker, the point of the draft (other than to allow the NFL teams a fair method assimilating college players into the NFL) is to allow teams to address the NEEDS of the team. That being said, i simply cant see us taking another safety even if Nelson is available, simply because we have a fairly strong tandem right now with (future pro-bowler) Kerry Rhodes and Eric Coleman. What we really need to address is either a RB, a CB, or a DE/OLB. I think people are a little too critical of Dwayne Robinson at NT, he had a rough start but is really not doing a bad job right now, considering hes become more agile, and is starting to find his groove in the 3-4 defense. what we really need is an outside pass rusher (DE/OLB) to be able to put a good rush on teams without necessarily blitzing all the time.
during the college season, i became a big fan of Nelson. he's about as good of a Defensive playmaker as you'll find coming out of college, and he learned to play very physical football under Urban Meyer. i have to agree, Safety is definitely not a priority. however, if we address one major need in Free Agency, then pick Nelson at #26; that gives us two picks in R2 to pick up a NT/DE (depending on what they do with D-Rob), a pass-rusher, or a RB. any combination (with Nelson already picked) would make the D scary. some of us have been speculating about Coleman's future, and he was benched this year, so maybe... still, i don't see it happening because Eric Smith is waiting and was drafted in R3. but if we got Nelson, can you imagine Rhodes and him roaming around the Secondary? cheers
IMO Nelson has the tools to play safety or corner in the NFL. I don't think they will draft him, since we have more pressing needs. But I believe Rhodes and Nelson would give us the best secondary in the NFL within 2 years.
I agree hydro, we take the bpa for the first pick, if thats rice, jarrett, nelson, landry whoever. We take them
on draft day, especially in round one...its not about a need sometimes so much as the best player on the board. nelson is a sick player that really could be a player for years to come. that said, i dont think we will have the pick to use...i think we will have a new RB before the draft...
there's no way nelson is available where we pick. he's a bonafide top 15 pick. and the best most well rounded safety in the draft.
Safety? No way. I like the Erik Coleman/Kerry Rhodes tandem. Even throw Eric Smith in at the SS spot and that's just as good if not better.
Well I'm a little biased since he became one of my favorite players when he was a rookie, but he didn't do so much to LOSE his starting job. He's just not a major playmaker. So even if Coleman does lose out, we already have another promising safety in Eric Smith. Throw in Kerry Rhodes at FS and we have no need at all for a safety.
