Now that the Super Bowl is less than two weeks away, it's time for everyone to watch another Bowl that takes place this Saturday, the Senior Bowl. Most of the highly named senior players of college football will be at the Senior Bowl performing on the NFL Network this Saturady afternoon to show there skill to the NFL teams and scouts. I know I will be watching, will you?
I posted the NFL Networks' coverage for this week in the draft forum.... first show just started (4pm)
Oh ya, Senior Bowl is always interesting to watch. I even watch the combine on NFL network. Just save me the pain of the pro bowl.
Last years Senior Bowl practise allowed me too see what D'Brick was all about... hopefully someone will catch my eye this year.
On today's Senior Bowl practice then mentioned how the Jets selected to guys in the 06 draft who played in senior bowl--D'Brick and Mangold. The one announcer said Mangold had the better season.
Only caught some today because of homework and such. I saw Carriker, and he could be a great pick to play DE on the 3-4. Very versitile, and because of his size 6'6 and 275-280lbs, he can be the ideal player to take over Kimo.
Carriker is a beast- NFLDC mentioned that opposing scouts said it was just impossible to move him. He could be a huge asset in the 3-4. I'm even more impressed by the amount of weight Tank Tyler put on- its not fat either. He's a sturdy 325. That's Wilfork/Hampton weight. If he works out well and shows good ability during the combine, I'd definitely pick him up. If Lynch is not available, I think its a given the Jets will go defense here. Carriker would be a great pick in the 2nd round. He actually weighed in at 292 today, which is as good as it gets for a 3-4 end. I'm starting to get excited.
Wilfork is easy 350 and Hampton is up there. But when they came into the league they were much smaller. Jets have to find 2 defensive lineman in this draft.
http://www.patriots.com/team/index.cfm?ac=playerbio&bio=28436 325, many other sources have him at that. Similar sources have Hampton at 325. The only elite NT who is at 350ish is Jamal Williams
It's still early, but if Carriker's stock keeps improving, he won't even be available when the Jet's select at #25. Tyler might fall to our first pick, my only concern with Tyler is he has a questionable work ethic, somethng Mangini may red flag.
That's a great point about Tyler- he takes way too many plays off. You're right about Carriker- the good thing for the Jets is that he's not quick enough to be a 4-3 DE. Our only competition is teams running the 3-4; essentially, I think he'll be available at the Jets pick in the 2nd round unless Pittsburgh grabs him in the 1st.
Spectre...........good to hear from you again, always like to talk about the draft and players that are a good fit for the Jets. I believe Tank also had an on field incident a year or so ago......where he apoligized to his Teammates, can't remember the exact details. Carriker would be an ideal fit for the Jets, I just don't think he's going to last to 25. It's funny you mention Pittsburg and the 3-4, the new coach Tomlin is a believer in the 4-3, but I hear he's keeping Dick Lebeau, who is a tried and true 3-4 defensive coach.....we will see. I totally agree Carriker could never work as 4-3 DE, he probbly would be a better fit as a DT in the 4-3, but still out of his element.. He's 3-4 DE!!!
Good to see ya bro, this year's draft is gonna be pretty freakin sweet. Looking forward to long discussions- med school is poundin me pretty hard right now but I'm still spending way too much time reading about the draft haha
Good chance that Carriker will still be there on the 2nd round. However don't expect Tank Tyler to be there at the 25. His stock keeps improving even before the Senior Bowl, and may be the 2nd or 3rd DT taken in this draft (First Branch, then maybe Okoye). If he does fall to us, we will indeed look hard in taking him.
