My man, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Did you get pulled over for a speeding ticket today? Are you wearing saggy diapers that leak? You're usually a voice of reason, but chill the f' out. My god!

I don't think you read the story Peter King wrote about the NFL Winter meetings this year. Tannenbaum went to a spring training game with two people to shoot the breeze: Ron Wolf and Bill Parcells. So obviously your contention that "He's no 'sounding board' for anyone. ...he and he alone knows what is best for the NY Jets and no snot-nosed, pudgy little 'penguin' is going to tell him what to do" is completely wrong.

And as far as worrying about the contract he would sign, I think you're superimposing the past on the future. Do you think Tannenbaum is going to sign him to a 5-year contract to be a consultant. I don't. Probably a year to year thing. And what if he did sign him to a 5-year contract and he wanted out. So what.... he's a consultant, and not the head coach or GM. Where's the blow to the organization's stability in that case?

The last thing you should start believing is that Tannenbaum and Mangini have it all figured out. Because as much as I love the job they did this year, they don't. Why having a sounding board who also doubles as a professional mentor is the deathknell for the organization I'll never know.

Maybe I just don't "Got that."

Yeah. The man who hasn't been to the Super Bowl since 1996. The man who promised us Jet fans a SB and quit on us. The man who was done with football but came back to coach the Cowboys. The man who never won anything without Bellichick. The man who is a HOF coach for what he did in the 90s but is a horrible GM - check out his drafts with the Jets and Dallas. The man who left this franchise in horrible financial straights.

And if you think Johnson, after offering Parcells the HC job in 2000 with a blank check and having Parcells retire and then unretire, would welcome him back, you are crazy. As an analogy, how did that Queens stadium work out after NYC thumbed its nose at Woody. Fool me once . . . . .

I think it's funny that people are so against this, if it were to happen. You all realize that the role of a "consultant" is really nothing more than throwing him a few bucks to give his opinion here and there. It's not like he'll play a major role in the organization. Mangini and Tannenbaum both have a relationship with him, both talked to him a number of times during this season.

Relax. It's not like he may become the GM, or fill an important job.

If Parcells is "hired" as a consultant, that would be fine. Mangini and Tannenbaum talked with Parcells a number of times during this past season. That's all they would be doing now, the difference being that Parcells would have more knowledge of the Jets overall situation, and would be "officially" recognized as a "consultant" for the Jets.

IMO he would go back to the Giants as a consultant before he went to the Jets...

I would not want Parcells back as a consultant unless his role was clearly defined and it did not step at all on the toes of Tannenbaum and Mangini.

What would the team get out of having him around? What role would he play?

The only role that I could see him playing with the Jets would be as a sounding board for Mangini on the thorny issues that arise from time to time for NFL head coaches. It's not clear to me that that would be particularly valuable to the Jets. It certainly was not valuable for Parcells in his last couple of jobs.

Don't forget the man who tried to slide into a Super Bowl hopeful situation in Tampa, started tampering with other teams' coaching staffs (the Jets included) before he got the job, then turned tail and slunk away when the league started taking notice.

I think the last thing this newly installed FO/CS needs is a "Parcells" casting his considerable shadow over everything Tangini has just laid the foundation for. Parcells burns out too quickly to oversee yet another rebuilding program and I really don't think he'd be able to be subservient to Tangini for more than perhaps the 2nd disagreement.

Let Parcells go into retirement quietly. He's better off watching the ponies down in Florida than either in our FO or on TV boring the hell outta every viewer.

You would have to make sure Mangini signs off on it. Eric could be the real deal and I wouldnt want the Tuna stunting that.

Well I will gladly take his assistance for couple of years, sounds about right for the playoff push.

Even though he is close to Eric and Mike, we have to get their total consent first. Secondly I dont want this to be a consoltant type job like the Heat had with Pat Riley. Then takes over and then leaves again. We have a really good with thing with Tangini here.

I have heard that Parcells could consider a GM position in the NFL sometime in the future... not sure where the article is though.

And while the Giants yesterday ruled out a reunion with the franchise's lone Super Bowl-winning coach -- "No" was Giants president John Mara's to-the-point answer to whether the Giants had any interest in Parcells in any capacity -- the Jets front office would seem to be a logical landing place for Parcells to put the finishing touches on his Hall of Fame career.

Parcells, 65, is extremely close to Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, whom Parcells hired in 1997 while coach of the Jets. At the time, Tannenbaum was a 28-year-old salary cap whiz whom Parcells took under his wing. The two remain good friends.

"There isn't a major decision in my life, both personally and professionally, that I make without first talking to Bill," Tannenbaum said earlier this season when asked if he spoke with Parcells before the Jets decided to hire Eric Mangini as head coach.

A native son of New Jersey -- where the Jets plan to move in 2008 -- Parcells also has a strong relationship with Mangini, who was on his staff with the Jets. During a recent, much-publicized rift with former mentor Bill Belichick, Mangini said Parcells is one of the head coaches around the league whom he calls for advice

Tannenbaum is close to Parcells evidently..I think The Tuna will come here if he wants to. As long as Mangini makes the final call.. I think the Tuna's expertise can't hurt as long as it doesn't overly influence the direction of the team.

Parcells is one of the best all time, why not give the man a chance, if he is just working as a scout for us, with some pointers for all involved, he got us out of the gutter, so why not help him so he can help to put us over top??

If he's not the GM, and not the coach, what do we need him for? Witty sound blurbs? The Jets had a solid draft and were well coached in year one of Tangini. Status quo, I say.

While I understand your points, read what others here have said about the issue. They're dead on.

As far as what Peter King writes, I could give a shit less. As far as I'm concerned, Parcells only met with Wolf and Tannenbaum for one reason: a possible future paycheck.

A little boy once discovered a snake in his bedroom and the snake asked, "Can I sleep in your bed tonight? It's awfully uncomfortable here on the floor."

The little boy gave it some thought and said, "But you're a snake! What if yoiu bite me?" to which the snake replied, "No, you're a nice little boy and you're being nice to me. Why would I bite you?" So, the little boy allowed the snake to sleep in his bed.

Soon after the snake was in bed with the little boy, he bit him. "Why did you bite me?" screamed the little boy. "I trusted you, and you promised you wouldn't bite me!"

"Yes," replied the snake, "but I'm a snake, aren't I?"
