I know a lot of folks here love to talk about the positive culture change…honestly I don’t know what to say about that as it’s way too intangible and in any case, none of us are physically there with the team to actually see if it’s true.

So I like to stick to tangible moves and results we can see.

And honestly, drafting the OT with our first round pick and now this signing are the two best moves I’ve seen this new GM and HC do. I absolutely LOVE these moves. Get the OL right. Get the stud WR right. Love these both.

The QB I’m still taking a wait and see approach but I will grant that Fields was likely the best option for us at this time and place. So I can hope there even though I’m not really sold on him.

But these two moves I love.

now go get Sauce locked up and that’ll be a great offseason in terms of roster building.

I never understand this mentality. The Jets have let every good player they’ve had walk or traded them away for the past 15 years for “draft picks.” Why does the fan base want to continually see that happen? What are we so worried about with the salary cap all the time? The Saints have re-signed every good player they’ve had while redlining the cap for a decade and they’ve haven’t had their franchise fold.

    We’ll be OK.

Should we let him walk and go get Trumaine Johnson and Le’Veon Bell with the savings?

Anyone upset with this signing should get a 2 week ban from @Brook! :D

They've been stockpiling premium picks for 15 years. This is some sort of Stockholm Syndrome line of thinking.

Wilson gives everything he has out there. He never dogs it. He deserves the money

    Hell Yeah!!!

for any people that disagree with this read this from CBS Sports.

“Wilson, who has led the Jets in receiving in each of his three seasons, is one of just five players in NFL history to register at least 1,000 receiving yards and 80-plus receptions in each of his first three seasons, joining Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Odell Beckham Jr., and Michael Thomas.”

Garrett just singed the riches contract in NFL history for a Run Game decoy!

Just kiddin! I'm thrilled we locked him up. Ya, I wish he was a 6'4" Randy Moss type WR, but his catches are always electric and so much fun to watch. Good of Jets, Good for us, Good for Garrett! (and good for Breece!)

Going "over the moon" on anything Jets has proven to be a mistake for fifty years. This could have happened a year from now after we see what Wilson has to offer this year with the new realm in place. On the other hand, I would not underestimate the value of sending a message to the team that good work gets rewarded. Hopefully the future reward results in good work now.

Speaking of Wilson, would I be mistaken to believe you may have gone over the moon for the other Wilson for a few years?

He stayed because he has a contract; now it's just a few years longer. He wasn't walking away from a guaranteed paycheck.

This might be a good time to send a message that your draft slot promises you nothing but a few years to prove yourself. Gardner (hold the sauce) needs to prove he deserved the draft pick; he worked at it in year one but has not polished his results much since then.

Look at the Jets doing something right!

    A few thoughts..

    - I believe the deal kicks in after (2) years, so think about what the WR market will be after 2 years. Not an overpay at all. 20 mill owed on his current deal, 130 on new deal, 150/6, 25 mill per
    - Garrett was frustrated last year. With the team/Rodgers. A name that came up in trade rumors. To sign an extension is telling. He obviously believed in the future with the current regime and what they were selling him. He would have got paid with or without the Jets.
    - Keeping a Homegrown talent is a win. Something that is rare for this franchise.

Wouldn't it be nice if it was also a voice coming through the Jets' new inside sound barrier saying "it's not all about the money"?

Very true about the Jets…we mostly ever do the exact wrong thing instead of the right thing…from drafting to HC choices, etc. Agree 100%

But on this deal, I am fully on board. I think it was the right thing to do.

He could've held out and demanded a trade and received that guaranteed paycheck from another team

Wilson was heading towards that for sure. He was very unhappy, as we all were, with how the team operated last season.

Smart move by the new front office to get rid of the malcontents and identify who the true building blocks are.

Its tough to complain about this one. He's on his rookie contract for two more years. By the time the new money kicks in, will his contract even be top 10 in WRs? Having an a very good to elite wide receiver locked up for 6 years is nice.

I'll also add that very good to elite wide receivers are 89% of the time* total pains in the ass. To find one that is a good teammate, family oriented, and more likely to be in the gym than making a reality TV show is very rare.

(*just an informal statistic based on personal research)

You're not wrong. I don't think I'd have even blamed Garrett if he was a pain and forced his way out.

Very happy to have him here.

If the Jets were a successful franchise, yeah, sure, I guess? They would have more flexibility.

Still, though, you don't draft players to trade them or not resign them in 3 or 4 years.
