Did you realize that both Maynard and Sauer had 1000 yard seasons that year, very similiar to what Cotchery and Coles did this year except for 1 giant fact. Coles averaged 12.1 YPC vs Maynards 22.8 and Cotchery averaged 11.7 YPC vs Sauer 17.3 in 1968. In spite of the fact that the Jets had a great D that year and a good running game, they don't sniff a SB without Namath's ability to throw the ball down field in adverse playing conditions. We don't get out of the AFL Champoinship game with Oakland without a rocket armed QB.
Yesiree what you posted is the truism of truisms. That particular day was a case in point with the cold & wind at Shea. I cannot even imagine how many flutterballs CP would have had if he was the QB that day.
Dude that game spiraled out of control, and there was no saving the Jets on that day. Cman is absolutely right! I don?t know how this Thread became a Chad discussion again, but that?s fine. I have advocated that we build on the Offensive line and Defensive lines this off season. These areas are glaring weakness. We still ran for 13 hundred plus yards this year showing running back by committee did what we needed to do this year (Not the way I and everyone else would have liked to see). The defense was choked full of holes early on but stiffened later and kept us in every game. If we improve on the O-line then maybe they will be able to stick with a feature back (Not necessarily a FA pick up or draft pick/Boom Boom) If we improve on the D-line then we are not just staying alive in games with the chance to come back or take the lead in a game, we can Dominate the game. The past is always the window to the future. We can win a super bowl with Chad Pennington period! Think about this ,if their were internet message boards back in the late 60's and 70's the board would be alive with "bench Joe his knee's are gone" or "He can throw it a ton but he's a statue back there". Thank you for joining me on this journey into the futures past!
Wow that is another truism that is CP was the Den QB in that championship game we win in a cakewalk. Can you imagine what CP passes would have looked like in that game?
Actually I think you mean the 68 team which is the team that won the AFL championship game & SB3. In 69 they lost to KC in the POs.
Chad had all that and a healthy arm in 02. We win the division and get stopped cold by a very average Oakland team who is buried in the SB by a real NFL Defense. In 04 we certainly had both a good D and OL and a good feature back. Again against a decent but not great Pitt team with a rookie QB in total self destruct mode we couldn't score points on O. Namath took the Jets to a SB in his fourth year in the league in spite of he's injuries. Chad will be in year 7 next year along with he's third HC and 2nd rebuilding project for this team with him at QB.
IMHO U are way, way, way off base with what U posted. Just a reminder his record was the exact same in the 4-3 under Herm
I am a vilma supporter. Either way this question will be answered this year. He will adapt or move on.
Well actually you should be supporting the team not just a player on the team but whatever floats ur boat is OK with me. Hopefully he will turn out to be a upper crust MLB which is really all we can hope for since the other option is become one of the many NYJ 1st round draft picks that have never made it
saints d isnt that good so i i didnt read the rest of the post. they have retreads at LB and their CBs get abused. especially the loser opposite of mckenzie.
I support the team first and foremost and no one is safe when it comes to whats best for the team in my eyes. Hopefully that sentiment will apply when it comes to Pennington this year. Vilma as well if he does not adapt to a 3-4.
OK sorry where we disagree IMHO to get the dominant D JV cannot see another season since it will be no different then his past ones no matter if it was 4-3 or 3-4
Im with you ,although i hold respect for pennington for what he does as the Leader of the Jets I feel as thoe we are going to go through the same kind of season we did this year ,although it was good you felt like we could fall off the map at any moment or in any game. I think we should just go through the pain of change that will come no matter what we argue about! The main problem here is we won. where we were expected to fail. that really is prolonger the inevitable. but to go all the way back to Cman's original intent and my two sense since we are definatley going to see chad behind center this comming season ,then we need t build a dominating defense and as Iv suggested tweak the o-Line to open the hole that werent there this year (06) then we wouldnt need to talk about draft pick's for Turner and picking up an early round back.
I would very much appreciate U reveiwing this situation & then give me your honest reply We are playing for the AFC Championship in Foxboro. The weather has been terrible clear but 15 degrees & winds gusting to 20/30 MPH. We are behind by 2 points cause NE missed a xtra point due to the wind. We are starting on our own 20 going AGAINST the wind & will need to get to the NE 15 at least to make good on the winning FG. There is 1 minute & 12 seconds left in the game & we have 1 TO left. Do you really think that CP can bring us down the field to score the game winning FG based on what we know of his throwing arm strenght up to now?
