Taylor has outplayed Fields in his career, why is this news? Fields is a bad player, Taylor is not. It’s not difficult.
I don’t know…I think Taylor brings us pretty minimal upside and is not a long term answer, so unless Fields sucks REALLY bad, he’s going to get most of the season to see if he can show improvement
He’s not a long term answer, but neither is Fields. So if neither are the long term answer, just play the best one until you find the right guy. The money they gave fields is absurd, considering Tyrod makes pennys and is better. The value is off there.
Here's the thing. We don't need an entire 17 game regular season of watching an inferior product. We've already seen that before. See 2024 season for reference. If Fields sucks it up and the Jets keep losing games, then make the switch, bottom line. This isn't about hope, that's not a strategy. Aaron Glenn has already brought a more business-like approach to this franchise which I'm loving. Enough of these weird political inner workings and teacher's pet players like the last few regimes pitifully rolled out. It comes down to performance, bottom line. That's it. If Fields sucks or isn;t winning games, then put Taylor in. This year is a wash anyways. This year, in my opinion, is about building an identity, playing with discipline and learning how to win. And we don't have a franchise QB which also limits the output too obviously. The winning may not happen right away as it's a whole culture change and the Jets have, barnone, one of the worst cultures in the NFL that's been built over decades. So as long as I see them play with discipline, limit the horrible penalties of the last few seasons, and start to tackle like the good teams do, then I'm already a happy camper this season. The winning may not happen but if Fields does suck or isn;t showing anything of merit, then pull his ass and get Taylor in there. He's about a proven a stopgap QB as there is in the NFL. I want the Jets to win games. I don't want to hope the QB makes little slight improvements and the team stil sucks ass on the field. I'm done with that shit. Best man for the job. Case closed.
For what its worth Tyrod Taylor is hurt and missed practice this week. Glenn says they dont think it is serious but its hard to be outplaying Fields, or anyone for that matter, from the sideline
That’s the problem with Taylor…he has been injury prone…good for a game or two/three but then he’s hurt again…
Are you talking about the three seasons he started? Or the ten he sat on the bench? Maybe in a few years you could compare career achievements. Until then, there’s no universe they share.
Ahh yes. Tyrod “Who-Else-Can-We-Find” Taylor. Burnished in the fire of those epic practice field battles with EJ Manuel and a host of other grocery baggers. I’ll root for the guy, of course. But not being a member of the Taylor family or the bank holding the note on his condo, I won’t pretend that at any time in his long NFL career he was ever any team’s first choice.
Yeah... He's always been the QB of last resort. Kinda sad really when you think about it. Talented enough to be on a roster, but not good enough to start as a first option.
He wasn’t. But we’re comparing him to Justin fields, who is a complete bust. Compared to that, he has been better his entire career. If fields is in the league 2 more years from now I’ll be very surprised
Tyrod is not a starter, he is too injury prone. I actually like the guy a lot when he plays, he is a solid QB, but he is old and made of glass. He is a back-up, and Fields is a starter, even if he is a better passer, which is no indictment on Fields.
We’re not comparing. You’re trolling up a point - which I don’t mind, but that doesn’t make a career comparison of Tyrod vs Justin a serious discussion.
Well, you can think whatever you want; you can also think the coach and GM made such statements. I spent some time Googling just that and came up with nothing to show either one made such statements. I showed you actual quotes from Glenn stating the opposite. If you can give us something more solid than what you remember I'd certainly reconsider. In the meantime I find plenty wrong with a guy who calls himself a reporter throwing unsupported claims out through the internet and creating a scenario around them.
This was from March: https://www.newyorkjets.com/news/darren-mougey-says-justin-fields-is-jets-starting-quarterback https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/articl...rting-qb-wont-face-competition-014704740.html Also, Glenn didn't state the opposite. He said also Fields is QB1 prior to the camp with Tyrod on his heels. https://x.com/ZackBlatt/status/1906674287328498121 . The competition is always there to keep your spot - if someone sucks they can lose a job, that goes without saying, Glenn just stated the obvious there. But he did name Fields as a QB1 before he completed with Tyrod in camp. This is not the same as Tippman/Josh competition at C, where he did not say who is #1 at the time and who is on the heels. To me Faria claims were clearly 100% supported. If he watches the practices where I can't and gives his take, I will listen. Doesn't mean he is right, but together with a few other folks who routinely watch these, it helps to get some idea of what's happening. I still believe Fields can be a good/league average QB for us, which would be better than what we've had since Pennington, and perhaps more. He did have a bad practice last time around, and am looking for him to rebound tomorrow. Btw, I do not think it is a coincidence he had his worst practice on Tue with Mason Taylor out. We are very low on weapons even with Mason in. He is a second round rookie after all who was not exactly known for his passing game, more like a well rounded guy. But without him we have even fewer weapons. That is not ideal situation at all for any QB or passing game.
It’s not a discussion for me, look at their numbers. Tyrod is better and it’s not close enough for a debate.
As I said, I don’t mind the trolling, especially if it’s clever. The career achievements of the 14-year, journeyman, mediocre backup vs. the 4-year, highly-drafted, mediocre starter? Not so clever. Not terrible, though. Points for heart.
