I don’t like those seasons either but if there’s any year to shit the bed when we have no chance at a SB anyways, it’s this year. I definitely think there are 2-3 potential superstar quarterbacks in the draft this year.
They lost 3 games on last second field goals, one of them 66 yards and another 55 yards. And they were beating the eventual SB champs in the 4th quarter Yeah, when Goff got hurt and they had to play Tim Boyle they struggled, as does every team with Tim Boyle. to go from the worst defense ever, uncompetitive week in and week out to that, was a big step towards where they got to eventually. — I think we will see a similar thing this year. 2-6 or something at the break and then 4-5, 5-4 down the stretch
I think so. And we have a good kicker now. 7-9 wins should absolutely be expected from a good coach with this team. 6 is absolute minimum. Aside from Reed, these are below average players, who didn't play very well last year. And Reed has been replaced with pretty high investment in Stephens (who is doing well) plus a 3d round pick Thomas. There is bunch of CBs in the pipeline too. Most of these players sucked and you cannot tell me these are irreplaceable guys and is the reason for the team being so much worse. Especially the two DTs who were awful last year. If the guys you mentioned are irreplicable for AG/Mooge, we hired wrong people as simple as that.
Aside from Adams I just don't see where it got worse. And Adams wasn't even here all year, only 11 games. And we upgraded OL, special teams (lost 4 games because of the kicker), TE on paper should be better since Conk sucked, and frankly DL should be better too as JJ will return and McD should progress. It comes down to coaching IMO. Bob 1st year was able to win 4 games with shitty roster, where rookie Zach started with no WRs and no OL, plus scrubs who are back-ups now starting on defense. There is no way 4-5 wins is acceptable outcome with a good coach, just no way.
Was three wins acceptable for Dan Campbell? Should they have fired him after year one? Him and Aaron Glenn inherited one of the worst defenses in the league, Aaron Glenn and Tanner are inheriting one of the worst offenses in the league. One of the worst last year that got worse during the offseason. They downgraded at quarterback which is what Glenn is doing, they had very little going in the pass game and tried to build an identity as a run team. The situations are extremely identical and I don’t know why we should expect different results. I don’t know, again we disagree on the very basis of the argument which is that this roster is terrible so we are never going to agree that a coach squeezing five wins out of a roster void of talent in multiple places did a bad job.
I’m with you. This is a very obvious “blow it up” year so I’ve expected no more than six wins from the get-go. And it will all be worth it to establish a culture and hopefully have a shot at one of those star quarterbacks. this is the Josh McCown era except with a worse quarterback. Bridging us from one failure to the next swing we take at QB.
those guys were solid veteran role players, the types you need to win in this league. Replacing them with rookies and practice squad guys is fine… if you aren’t really trying to win. I don’t think they are really trying to win this year now there’s still time. Make a trade or something and bring in a decent wideout before week 1
For what it’s worth, and I know not a ton, here’s what ESPN thinks of every position on our roster. Long story short they think we have the 27th ranked roster in the league and it’s pretty hard to argue that. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...best-worst-quarterbacks-cornerbacks-receivers four or five wins is logical, six or seven is attainable. Anything more than that would be Aaron Glenn turning water into wine.
They didn’t sign Fields to be the FQB. He’s a name that some people might pay to see at first. A new name for a QB jersey to sell. Pretending he’s even a stopgap is foolish because unless they draft a dual threat QB who’s actually good, they’ll have a years worth of offense/experience tailored to a QB who can’t throw.
Fields went 4-2 with a Steeler team that wasn't much better than us. If our staff has half a brain there will be a few defenses that a running QB should be able to exploit. I'd say we win 5-6 games with what we got - if our staff is any good. If Glenn comes out and only wins 2 games, there is a problem.
Interceptions look a problem and also fumbles. Never saw the field in 24 after few games in 23, surely there is somebody better out there, in theory, he is what Brady could be an UDFA with a little bit of potential . In 2023, Cook was named the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year. He received the honor again in 2024, joining Tim Tebow and Barrett Jones as the only players to win the award in back-to-back years. It's a sign of greatness lol
That Steelers team IS better than us…better defense, better coaching, etc. However, based on our roster as it stands now, I do agree with your wins total prediction … I feel the same as well …I think we are looking at something in the 4-6 wins range. I think we are very weak at certain positions (QB, WR, DL) and our depth is shit. And it’s very hard to win with this run run run and play defense style … running the way we want means we will have to pull together a lot of long 8-10 play drives without fucking it up with penalties or fumbles or whatnot, and inevitably when the QB has to make a throw to keep a drive going, I think Fields is like a 50/50 proposition on that…which was exactly the case in our first drive against the Giants…he had GW with inside leverage on a slant and he threw the ball slightly behind him which let the DB knock it down whereas all he had to do was put the ball a yard ahead of GW (like Brady or Mahomes do 10 out of 10 times) to get the first down and keep a drive alive. I think we will have trouble sustaining drives over the season with QB play like that. But it is a transition year, and we’ll be drafting a QB next year Though as an aside, I have to say that I’ve watched Jaxson Dart in both games and he has looked very sharp in terms of knowing where to go with the ball and putting it right in there. I was not sure on draft day about him but so far he looks pretty good.
We've only been patient for the last 16yrs, and on the big picture, for over half a century, patience is quality all Jets fans obviously are born with.
