I have to admit, it has crossed my mind… what if we had given saleh another year to field an offense.
Fire everyone! Then fire their replacements! Then fire THEIR replacements! Woody will hire someone better next time, FOR SURE!!!!
Yeah, but the defense sucked in the 1st game too. I am not sure is Saleh is capable of that, he got plenty of chances and failed. On defense I know he is capable. As of right now AG hasn't been able to do either. There is still some time though, but off to an awful start.
In fairness Glenn brought Wilkes here not Woody, Woody will f up the next coaching hire though I am sure.
Don't know which user you are talking about but since we are making assumptions and accusations I really think you have multiple accounts on this forum espicially the one "who wished massive harm to happen to me" over some posts on a forum for ranting about my football team.
Perhaps, but again, this is a what if game. The fact of the matter is that so far we are average offense at #16 and bottom defense at #30. This is not what was expected with defensive HC and experienced DC. More like defense would be average or better and offense worse, particularly with the departure of Adams being the biggest loss. And that can change, but defense definitely underachieved so far. Now, I would not fire anyone just yet, but something needs to be done to improve.
Noone could defend NFL teams with Cisco and Stephens in the secondary and Clemmons at LDE. Its difficult watching these guys and AG roles them out each play. Try anyone else dammit. These 3 should not be starting in the NFL period, no question about it and even as backups is questionable.
Both of these DBs were starters last year and AG (former DB player) wanted them. I actually think Cicso was not overall terrible is an upgrade over Clark post injury. They have Thomas who can step in for Stephens. Heck, if Thomas plays well then can then even move Stephens to safety where he played OK in Baltimore. We will need to see if they can make an adjustment, hopefully as early as this week. Clemons - that's a rough one. He was a starter last year too. There were plenty of chances to replace him and AG/Mooge passed.
That last drive by Baker was disgustingly easy... it's like Wilkes has never seen a 2 minute offense. The Bucs were down three offensive linemen... dial up a blitz! Nice waste of an amazing play by Will McDonald...
Yeah…we had to know that JJ coming back off a serious injury was not a slam dunk either…we needed help at DE regardless But I am so tired of watching Clemons give us his weekly penalty I do have to say though, going into the season, I knew our offense would suck because I had little faith in the QB and we have literally one NFL quality WR. I expected that. But honestly, I thought Wilks at the time was a decent choice…he’s been successful as a DC in various spots, good enough to get him an HC gig, and sure he was fired after one year (I think) but I still thought he was a good DC. And having the experience in the room I thought was a good thing. But I have to say that our defense looks BAD. Bad tackling all day long. STILL can’t fucking defend a screen pass (which I admit we’ve sucked at for a LONG time), and our secondary is a hot fucking mess…there are SO many receivers just running wide open in whatever fucking zone concept Wilks is running. I expected our defense to play better
I think they had like 90 secs and moved with such ease that the concern was to run out all clock before they kick not leave the time for the Jets. Again, no need to fire anyone yet, at least we have to see the season play out. But this is an awful start for the defense, where the strength of the coaching is supposed to be.
Seriously…they were down 3 starting OL!!! Can you imagine if that was us? To be fair, they drew a TON of holding calls in the first quarter alone, but man, we should have been able to do more against that OL than we did. And as for offense, it was a putrid shitshow for 3 quarters…I think Tyrod had less than 100 yards passing going into the 4th quarter. This is supposed to be an NFL offense. The only reason we had a comeback is that for some reason TB got complacent with their big lead. One good quarter does not negate 3 terrible ones. The only positive I’m taking out of this game was that the team seemed to hang in there and did make a comeback attempt…granted it was only really because of a freak miracle play by McD, but still…that does show heart to me. And that’s a good thing. At this point, none of us can fire Woody. We can’t fire the coaching staff. We can’t cut players. We can only hope that THIS time, our rookie DC in his first HC role will somehow “get it” … the season is toast…not that I expected playoffs, but it would have been very positive if we could have been kind of “in the mix” for a bit instead of essentially being eliminated before October, which fact or not, we are. We are already playing out the string. So let’s see who we keep and let’s hope our rookie GM knows how to identify a QB because we are looking at a top 5 pick and huge holes everywhere, but (probably in order) mostly at QB, WR, CB, DE, S
Sherwood, McDonald, and several other jets would sparkle in a 3-4 defense. They should switch to that.
How many of those points are off turnovers, though? Without that Gipson muff and the pick 6 yesterday, the team is likely 2-1. Yes, replacing DJ Reed with Stephens was a terrible decision and they have been committing some absolutely stupid penalties, but I'm not blaming coaching just yet. This was one of the most undisciplined teams in the league last year, it's not going to be fixed over night.
I get it Stephens is a downgrade from Reed, but that was AG's choice and we returned 8 out of 11 starters and upgraded the other two plus have JJ return and added some depth too with Briggs, AZ, and Moore. I know some of you want to excuse bad defense due to roster, but this is similar if not better roster, which Saleh led to top 5 defense in 5 games, and Ulbrich finished #20. There is not excuse to be #30 now. AG and Wilks need to improve a lot, period.
I think the talent deficit in the secondary may be more than you do, but I do agree that the coaching has been bad…or said another way, if they are trying to install a different system in the D, the team has not yet gotten it. That may be fixable with time, we’ll see…but for whatever reason, we are just letting receivers run pretty free all over the place, and our tackling has been shit. If you’re going to play a soft zone, you need to come up and hit hard and tackle well….we have not done that. Time will tell if it’s just a matter of the players getting in line with the scheme, or if AG and Wilks can tweak the scheme to better match the players, but I think both things are true…our talent is not great and maybe on par with last year or a bit worse, and I think the coaching scheme is not yet working.
I thought you and Cman had an agreement on slowing down on repeating same things in multiple threads? There is already a "Bitching" thread about the Coaches that is sticky. I will merge it once Cman sees the thread,
