Also, he might be our CB2 right now. Granted not by a wide margin, but still. Plus two of these guys have expiring deals and Brownlee is here on the cheap for 3 years. It's OK to admit your mistakes and try to improve. Because it does look like they made a fair share of mistakes when it comes to secondary, particularly with Stephens. Though I do want to see more of AZ after last game.
How does that salary percentage compare to the rest of the league? It’s a passing league so it doesn’t seem crazy to me that 4 pass defenders make up only 12%
I agree with your take. I only dissented when I misread the trade and thought we swapped within the same round with the Titans, who I expect to be picking right next to the Jets. The bright side: the guy was a starter, even if on a terrible roster, and is young, athletic, and was drafted higher than any of the picks exchanged. Dark side: A young starter with lots of theoretical upside whom a terrible team was happy to send away for chump change is probably not worth the chumpiest of change.
I don't have a big problem with trades like this. To just trade back and get a young, cheap player with starting experience and hopefully upside sounds good. Similar to the Jowon Biggs trade. That said, on paper, he doesn't look like what they need at CB so I don't get it yet, but it's pretty low risk so let's see. Wish we could find a viable trade target for a similar deal at WR or Edge

WHAT Is Moog doing? He shells out huge money for Sauce and Stephens, on top of the stupid contract Douglas gave Carter. They draft a CB in the high third round, who had a first round grade w some teams. They claim a CB on waivers from the Giants. Now they add another CB from the Titans. Good grief, have they got a clue? In they were unhappy w Stephens, why not play one of their 3 CBs already on the bench ahead of him? The jets are already out of the playoffs, and owe the eagles their 3rd rounder in 2026. What are they accomplishing by moving more draft capital for an overstocked position. What's next? Trading another draft pick for a RB4??
team building doesn’t end and if they feel a certain player is worth it, why not go after it? This kid looks like he plays with his hair on fire and helps in the run game. If there’s other players on other teams they will like, they may find a way to grab them too…it’s better then sitting back. Especially with a roster with so much room to find decent players.
The first to say it? Perhaps. The first to think it? No way. I think the whole board has been feeling that this is our year - only a championship calibre team can almost win 3 games.
At some point you have to look at the coaching, which is astonishing considering our HC is a former CB. At this point it’s starting to feel fair to say some of these guys are underperforming vs just being bad.
The jets moved back in the 2026 draft to take this guy. I doubt they will bench Stephens or Sauce given their cap hits. Stiggers is there along with Thomas and the guy they picked up from the Giants. Moving down in the draft to get a guy who is a special teamer at best is unwise. I would agree w your point if the guy had come free. I know it was a just a late round draft switch but still a net loss for the juggernaut jets
Did you mean Brownlea for ST, I don't think he has been signed for ST tbh, the one thing the game v Buccs showed was our horrendous tackling v the run game, something this guy excels at. he started 14 of 17 last season and the first 2 this season. Maybe they move Stephens to Safety, a position some on here said he should be playing before the season started and after 3 games, it shows why he shouldn't be near the CB spot.
I have to disagree with this completely. Frankly some of the best moves Mooge made were these late pick swaps for players. Two of the guys (Briggs and Brownlee) are basically like using draft picks ourselves as they are late round picks last year who have 3 years + RFA under our control, and maybe even better as we do not have to go through rookie growing pains. Phillips is a vet and costs some money, but he is a good player and also under team control for more than 1 year (we have an option for next year). As far as Brownlee, a strong argument can be made he is our CB2 already right now, plus he has high upside due to youth. It's such a drastic difference when we got Stephens. Ravens fans were saying how stupid we were to get him and laughing. Titans fans are saying how stupid their own FO is, and are unhappy they gave up on Brownlee. I haven't watched a lot of the film on Brownlee (though I did see some all 22), but If you look at PFF, Brownlee actually has a better grade than Stephens last year and also this year. If Stephens continues to suck for us, Brownlee maybe replacing him as a starter THIS YEAR and Stephens can move to Safety, which is another position of weakness. Or he could replace MC2 potentially, who guess what - also sucked ever since scoring big contract. So, the way I see it, this move could lead to short term and long term benefits. Now, Brownlee is not some star, but he is a starter, young, and is probably better than our starter right now with higher upside. We only spend 6th for 7th swap for it. And we NEED to improve our secondary. This was a good move by Mooge.
Can’t say I know anything about Brownlee, but if this 5th round pick in year 2 is better than the CB we just paid big money too, then that’s a pretty fucking big fail …
