The difference is night and day. Dart is a rookie a complete unknown their fans are excited they should be. They have the hope he can be the next great NY Giants QB.

That's not the situation here if this season begins to spiral out of control.

    I can't comprehend it.

He had his mind made up about Aaron Rodgers before he even met him. To me it almost seemed personal not a football decision.

What was so bad about Aaron Rodgers for one more year? ONE MORE YEAR? He said this is likely to be his final season. And then to not draft a young QB.

I've seen some of the arguments against Rodgers they weren't going to win the Super Bowl anyway blah blah blah how about fielding a competitive, entertaining product? Yes the Jets are in the competition business they're also in the ENTERTAINMENT business. They're charging money for tickets, they're getting money from the networks to televise their games.

Realistically the Jets could've had Aaron Rodgers for one more year AND Dart or another young rookie QB behind him. Wouldn't that have been the smarter strategy for the new regime? I'm not a millionaire football lifer that's what I would've done.

To me it seems very unfair what they did. There should've been consideration for the fans. The option they chose is like a root canal without any anasthesia.

I'm not giving up on Coach Glenn yet but he has to start winning some games and now because Aaron Rodgers isn't going to stop winning with the Steelers he's on the Steelers that's what the Steelers do they win. And if Dart shows glimpses of greatness there is going to be a euphoria in this market for him and the Giants future.

I'll be deeply hurt and not in a forgiving mood.

    Yeah, I get the argument

    Keeping Rodgers was an option

I guess the argument against it is that it doesn’t really line up with a new rookie HC and OC for various reasons

First, AR is a highly opinionated, outspoken guy with the resume to back it up and the ego that comes from it…this automatically puts some kind of friction or pressure on a new HC…AR wants to do things his way because it’s what’s made him a HOF guy, but that means if there are any differences with the coaching staff, it won’t go well…AR is NOT the “yes sir we’ll do it your way, sir” type of guy

Second, if the new coaches want to install their scheme and it’s not AR’s scheme, that is a problem…either AR won’t work as much in it (i.e. he’s no longer a threat to run or use mobility like he used to), or the coaches will have to postpone installing their vision for one year until AR leaves

Third, he’s too big a player to cater to whatever culture AG is trying to bring in…now maybe they actually align perfectly well, but if they don’t, it just creates some kind of division in the team…like ok, who’s really in charge here? Is it AR or AG? Can be awkward

So yeah, I get the argument that his stats may be on the decline, but stats or not, the argument that Fields is “as good as” or “better than AR at this stage” I don’t think really holds any water. Put it this way, if we are down 4 points with 2 minutes in the game, I think AR gives you a better chance to win than Fields…

So I kind of understand the logic here…I’m not a Fields guy and I don’t think he will suddenly “get it” on his third team in 4 years, but I get the logic of saying an old HOF QB on his last tour is not really the great fit for a new rookie HC

Unfortunately, it’s not like there were very many options for QB for us last offseason…other choices were guys like Russell who is already benched, Winston who can’t get on the field, or a few other scrubs, or else draft a QB like Dart. He did look good in preseason so maybe that should have been the play for us, but too early to know.

But the message was clear at least to me…we are not REALLY trying to win this year…we are trying to install a new leadership and a new culture and maybe we catch lightening in a bottle with Fields and if not (which is more likely), we draft a QB next year from a supposedly stronger QB draft class.

We’ll see how it all pans out

New culture? Every change in regime says this. It is a bullshit catchphrase. Does anyone think any coach does not want to win? There are only 2 keys to winning Recognize talent ( be ruthless in getting rid of players who don't display it) and scheme to get the best out of that talent. If a coach/gm fails at this, they will lose. New staff inherited what they did, and supplemented through draft, trades, etc. 3 games not enough time to see what the staff is made of regarding talent evaluation. Won't know till next season when we see the moves they make and the results of those moves.

Jets have been notoriously bad at recognizing talent..is there any NFL team with as poor a draft record and free agent pick up as the Jets? Sometimes I feel they can't scheme their way out of a paper bag. 0-3 doesn't yield much positive, but at least they are making personnel moves, even though injuries have forced some of them. Basically that's it. A roster deprived of lots of talent and really no way in season to fix that. So its on to the schemes. So far the defensive schemes have proven terrible. Again only 3 games....Offense is mixed bag. The learning process is painful..EVERYTHING/EVERYONE is new. Maybe by mid season we will see improvement.

    My belief is this:

    1) Woody was only going to hire a head coach that would fire Rodgers (If he wanted to hire the best he could have hired McCarthy, Carrol, Vrabel with an offer he couldnt refuse). He hired the one guy that was most likeliest to fire Rodgers and be his beta male yes-man. There is no way McCarthy or Carrol would have fired Rodgers. He didnt hire the best, he hired the guy that would do what he wants.

    2) Aaron Glenn wanted low expectations for this season, likely because he is trying to buy himself as much time. If Rodgers was the QB then expectations would have been high. Instead he gets a free-pass year right off the bat because he can pin all the rot on the former coach and Rodgers

My conclusion based on these 2 beliefs is the culture will not change under Aaron Glenn. He is a continuation of Woodys missteps. He is shown he is both a yes-man and wants low expectations and less pressure. Sorry but thats not going to cut it in this league and this will be another failure in all likelihood.
To me the idea that Glenn cant handle Rodgers personality or whatever is a red flag. I want a coach that can be the leader. Tomlin has no problem with Rodgers. Why? Because he knows he is in charge.

That's not at all responsive to what I wrote. Why do you never answer the question of what Rodgers did for the Jets?

Because its a team game and Saleh was the head coach. Peyton Manning in his prime wouldnt have won with Saleh.

If the Jets had brought in a real head coach this season they could have had success with Rodgers.

The bolded not only asks a question but immediately answers it. He contributed nothing positive here in two years with no reason to believe that would change, all while delaying the establishment of a new regime and outlook.

But Saleh is gone and you're still trying to ride the Rodgers horse - get over it. They both had their chances here and both failed. Saleh will be in the league for years, Rodgers won't.

Rodgers never had a shot here with a real head coach. The Jets could have done that in 2025.

You don't get it, probably because you don't want to. Even if Rodgers had a great year here in 2025 despite his failure in the preceding two years that would do nothing beyond the short term for the Jets who desperately need to plan for sustained future success. It would simply be kicking the can down the road.

Yeah what does all this have in common? Woody meddling in team affairs, instead of staying in his lane and letting the pros you hired to do the job your trying to do it yourself, and than when the end result is 15 years of straight dogshit you wonder why?

The main plan should be changing the culture by winning games in 2025. The Jets could have done that with Rodgers and proper coaching.

Some of the best teams in the league right now started there turn around with a different QB but established a winning culture: Chiefs with Alex Smith, Bucs with Tom Brady, Bills with Tyrod Taylor, etc.

It wouldnt be simply kicking the can down the road. It would be establish a winning culture and build off that like those teams did.

We'll never agree. You want immediate meaningless wins with a has been QB at the cost of building a future; I could not care less about this year's W - L numbers and want the Jets to evolve into a sustainably successful team not have to repeat the process next year ad infinitum.

I get your view. Just different approaches.

Ultimately it's an uphill battle either way due to Woody Johnson. It's only a matter of time to before he starts to interfere with this team.

I get this view as well…my real issue though is that we are doing this yet again for the umpteenth time in the same way (rookie DC at HC, rookie OC, rookie GM)

I have literally ZERO confidence that THIS time, finally, we will get it right. We haven’t gotten it right since Parcells left and I see no hard evidence so far that this new regime will do any better than the last ones did.

I’m meh on the draft…was good on the OT and hopefully he develops, was good with the TE and hopefully he develops, but the rest of the picks are gambles that haven’t shown anything yet (still early I know). I was meh on free agency…and the biggest signing at CB has looked REALLY bad. I didn’t love Fields then and I still don’t, but we’ll see.

I’m meh on the coaching staff so far…love AG as a player, love the talk, but so far it’s not translated to the field…we still play dumb, we still have way too many penalties, and we still can’t stop anyone when it matters.

So while the idea of a rebuild is fine, the way Woody went about it to me was definitely NOT fine, and so far (though still early), I don’t see much difference between the team now vs what we’ve been for years. We still suck.

I’m not calling for anyone’s head after 3 games, but man we better improve this year or I just think it’s yet another cycle of wasted time

It likely won't work. Everything Glenn has done since he's been here has just been glaring red flags.

It's never to late to fire Glenn and hire an experienced head coach next off-season. Would it be fair to Glenn? Probably not but the Jets are not the same as the other 31 teams. It's been 15 years of no playoffs. They have to get this right. Anywhere else I would say Glenn deserves a few years but here he unfortunately does not because we have been down this road to many times now.

I remember when the Jets got rid of Pete Carroll after one season to bring in an experienced head coach. It took a while but Pete turned into a pretty decent coach. The experienced guy did not fare too well.
