Adams should be benched. The alternative to Clemons might be worse at least with who is on the active roster. This McGregor (#55) either gets blown off the ball or takes himself out of every play. Maybe they should try Leonard Taylor out on the strong side edge. He seems athletic enough.
Sometimes, small traits get noticed the bigger the contract. If you're paid like you're the best, you have got to be the best at the end of the day.
Never understood the love for Adams. He stinks. His only big play w the jets was an interception against the Eagles when Hurts threw the ball right to him. My 92 year old mother in law could have made that pick.
Losing is making people do some whacky shit. You'd think we'd be over this type of behavior by now considering all the losing we've done, but here we are. Seriously, what is Sauce supposed to do there? I just watched back the play from the broadcast. They said the EXACT words "Sauce did his job, he forced it inside" and a second person said "yup". And I think that's how almost any coach, analyst, etc. would look at that play. He forced the play right into the hands of the safety which is exactly what he was supposed to do.
Sauce was taking on a guy with a 50+ pound weigh advantage there and the fastest RB in the league. If he gives up the edge the defense doesn’t have a chance. He forced the runner back inside to 4 pursuing Jets. He could’ve dove inside and tried to ankle bite Achane and then would’ve been hung up from his nuts here for not making a tackle Luke Kuechly would struggle to make. It wasn’t the prettiest looking thing he took on the blocker with his outside shoulder, didn’t break contain and gave the team a chance for a 4 yard gain instead of a TD. Also what’s with the rest of the loser Jets defense jogging in the background while Achane scores?
My first game was Jets vs. Colts Dec. 10, 1988. Jets 34 Colts 16. It can't get worse than what we saw last night though. I will try and stay positive to counterbalance all the darksiders on here.
Why are you asking me, I only quoted the guy who put the clip up and replied with a face slapping gif, was it not worthy of such a gif? Browingnagle decided I was referencing Gardener, I was referencing the whole calamatis clip. Then I said any one of the 5 was to blame after that. Say what you want, the play was shocking by all, not sure falling to your knees constitutes any sort of tackle or play to 'deliberately' turn the attacker inside, seems he turned inside as Gardener flopped in front of him. Maybe wants to learn how to tackle down low and wrap somebody up by the knees/feet, size is irrelevant then.
You asked me why I asked you, and then you answered the questions. That's why I asked you... because I assumed you had an answer. Which you did! Sauce was chasing the runner outside, the runner cut back inside because of it and that should have ended the play if we had an NFL caliber safety. That player also cut back inside because he had a blocker taking Sauce out of the play. The Dolphins executed it very well and Sauce did the only thing he could do in the moment. Trying to get on him for this play seems like a fool's errand to me, especially when there are very legitimate criticisms of his play so far this year.
I actually meant, why are you asking me and not the guy who put the gif up or the other guy who was slating Gardener. I answered the question anyways. 7:50, the comms called it 5 missed tackles. He was sliding on his damned knees as the guy went past him, it is awful, was he the only one at fault, nope, he wasn't even the worst but he was the first. As for IF we had a NFL calibre safety, we could play this game all night long, IF we had an NFL calibre, QB and on and on and on, all the way up to an NFL cailbre owner. EDIT video still works if you click the youtube part. Not that it really matters, I'm not going back and forth all night, those days are over for me.
I DID ask the guy who posted the clip originally and that ended in him comparing him to Revis, the greatest CB to ever play IMO, so that accomplished nothing. And I think the "5 missed tackles" was in reference to McGregor trotting like it's warmups over to the play as Achane was scoring. I dunno how anyone can be expected to make a tackle when you have a guy on top of you and you're on your knees. Bad angle maybe, but again Sauce forced the play right into the hands of a guy (or 5) that should have stopped it
In pop warner leagues all 11 guys on defense can try to run around blockers and chase down the ball carrier. It's fun and cute to see. I used to referee it I enjoyed it so much. but In the NFL you have to follow your assignment. The blockers are too good and the offensive strategy is well constructed to attack certain areas of the field. It is just not the case that all 11 guys are out there to make a tackle, many of them are out there TO take on a blocker actually. How many times have we seen a running back get to the edge and walk in easily? Happens a lot. Every week in this league. It doesnt happen though if the guy on the edge does his job. Sauce Gardner, on that particular play, did his job. He took the contact from the lead blocker, essentially taking the blocker out of the play and turning the runner inside so the safety there (Adams) could have a free tackle. It shouldve been a 1-yard gain. But Adams whiffed terribly. He is to blame.
The league saw corners and safeties diving at the knees of pulling guards, tight ends and fullbacks so much over the past decade that I believe the defender can now get flagged for it. The light weight defenders do that to try to either turn the run back in AND take the blocker out of the play. Whether that means they create a pile up or they at the very least assure they can’t block someone else, it’s generally a good play. I’m not sure why Sauce has to look so goofy when he does things sometimes but he achieved the designed result regardless if it looks stupid.
I think he was thinking about trying to duck under the contact and then thought better of it. A bad play, and the Sauce Gardner of last year, would've tried that. He would've ducked inside the blocker, not set the edge or make the tackle, and let the fullback block Adams for an easy TD.
