I am watching Indiana Oregon because Indiana is my home state but really not impressed with neither QB's in this game. What team does Mateer play for? I might have to check him out. Not impressed with Archie either. This QB class seems super underwhelming as of mid October.

Oklahoma against Archibald Manning and Texas but it’s kind of a dud

Fernando and Moore both turned into pumpkins today.

Let’s see what my boy Jayden Maiava has tonight against Michigan.

I don’t hate the idea. I just get a feeling like Fernando Mendoza is Spanish for Bubby Brister.

Mendoza better than thr Oregona QB. But still. Not impressed.

Can we trade #1 pick on the upcoming draft or no?

I think Mendoza has played well, composed. That was nice placement on that TD pass

Curt Cignetti is the best coach in the country. Google him.

I was pretty impressed with Mendoza. An absolute cannon of an Arm. One bad decision all day. He was 10x better than the Oregon QB.

The thing about Mendoza I will say is he is not Josh Allen, Mahomes, etc. his ceiling is like a prim Joe Flacco to me. What that means is you need to build a team with a strong run game and good D around him, lucky for us, we have the skeleton to that O in place. I just don’t trust our coaches to tailor the o to him.

anyways, he was making nfl throws today acrosss the other hash. He is worthy of a top 5 pick and it’s not even close to a second guess with him.

I caught a few bits and pieces of the first half, flipping over when UGA was kicking me in the balls. 31-13 against that defense can’t be flukey.

And, for all you Nico clingers, just when you thought he’d be busy digging around for Deion’s number, UCLA puts together a little winning streak. Between USC and UCLA, Southern California just teabagged the entire state of Michigan. Meanwhile, Penn State and Drew Allar still haven’t recovered from last week. The preseason No. 2 team in the nation drops three in a row, including two at home, now scraping the bottom of the Big10, with Iowa, Ohio State and Indiana on deck. And that poor bastard, Drew Allar, could only WISH people might compare him with Christian Hackenberg. Geezus, what a collapse.

The only thing that frightens me more than using the #1 pick on Fernando Mendoza would be if the Jets screw up and write “Alberto Mendoza” on their draft card. We’d be stuck with his backup QB brother for five years.

There’s a lot to like about him. I’ve posted a whole bunch of nice things right here in this thread. But if Fernando, Alberto, or any other Mendoza is the first pick in the draft, the NFL is officially out of ideas. I could be wrong. I’d have good company there - NFL draft scouts blow on first round QB draft picks every year. I’d just rather not gamble with a high-value pick that can get you more than a Mendoza.

I might not call it a cannon, but it looks plenty strong to me too. The book on him, though, is that arm strength is just average and it’s one of his drawbacks.

Sarratt with his own personal “they don’t think it be like it is but it do” when he said “we know we're not nowhere where we want to be right now,”.

    Huge win for Indiana.

I don’t think he’s like Flacco at all and I really don’t think he’s like Allen, and Mahomes of course like you say

his arm strength is average, it’s his height, composure and processing that makes him effective

I said Justin Herbert as a comp before but he might be more in the mold of Jared Goff. And that’s a good thing since the OC worked with Goff and was successful

I think I land somewhere around Kirk Cousins with Mendoza. Goff is a good one too but Goff has an absolute cannon especially on throws over the middle.

Smart, quick processor who has enough of a NFL arm to be good at this level. Ok athlete but probably subpar compared to what the modern NFL QB is becoming.

I’m not sure if he’s worth the top pick or not yet.

No matter who we pick, if we let Aaron Glenn as Head Coach, we will ruin him as well. For change, please bring an Head Coach who has a track record of developing QB's. I am not a huge fan of McCarthy but at least give him a shot.

With Fernando Mendoza, even more so. If you watch the way Indiana uses him versus how he was used last year at Cal, he’s essentially running a west coast offense. It’s why Curt Cignetti is a good coach. He’s taking advantage of Mendoza’s best assets - he has a super-quick release, he’s accurate, and he’s smart. The vast majority of his throws are in the 5-8 yard range, and they come out in 2-3 seconds. Throws in the flat, back shoulder throws outside, short crossing stuff. I’d be willing to bet - legitimately - if you go through Indiana’s two biggest games against good defenses - Illinois and Oregon - Mendoza has no more than three throws where the ball is in the air more than 15-yards. One of those was his pick-6 yesterday. The rush was in his face and he threw a duck off his back foot. Oregon has a good DL, the ball was just out too quickly. Illinois didn’t get to him either. Oregon’s one sack yesterday was on a LB blitz up the middle, where they just outnumbered the OL and were on top of Mendoza before he could get his eyes downfield.

To your point - if the Jets draft Mendoza and use him how they’re using Justin Fields, that’s not his best game. It’s how Cal used him, and he had some success. The Big10 has much better defenses. I doubt he’d be the Heisman favorite if Indiana had him sitting back in the pocket waiting for routes to develop downfield

Well said. He is our guy right now unless Sellers somehow turns into Superman. Don’t sleep on Ty Simpson either.
