Trade deadline is a few weeks away and there's plenty of smoke about moves the Jets will make. Connor Hughes has reported they've fielded calls about at least Breece Hall, Quinnen Williams, Will McDonald and Jermaine Johnson. Hughes also reported that Breece would fetch at best a 4th, JJ and McDonald maybe a Day 2 picks, and Quinnen could be a 1st plus. Maybe it's because I don't trust this regime to draft, but I'm not excited about trading for draft capital. I would be furious if they traded JJ. He's a tone-setter, a leader and difference maker against the run and pass. He should be off-limits. I also wouldn't give away Breece for a Day 3 pick. I'd hate to see Quinnen go, but say if Dallas offered a 1st and maybe a Day 2 pick and/or young player, I might have to consider. Jowon Briggs looks like a player so he and Harrison Phillips could form a decent starting duo. The one guy I'd give away is Michael Carter. Maybe Saleh or Ulbrich would want him. Brownlee made a difference last week, their CB depth is decent, and Carter has been off since last year. I'd also love to see Mougey pull another Day 3 for a young player swap like he did for Briggs and Brownlee. Lot of possible positions to address and his first two trades look to have made the team better.
Obviously they're only going to trade one or two people (if any at all). I cant imagine they're going to trade everyone. The only guy I'd really like them to keep is Wilson. I think Sauce is safe as well. If they could get a first plus more for Quinnen, I would think real hard about it. I'm not 100% sure Mougey is the guy making the picks come 2026, but having a second first rounder to help build around a new QB would be helpful.
Goner: Breece (for a 5th) Maybe: Quincy, MC2 Hopefully not: Q, JJ No shot and stop pretending there is one: Wilson, Sauce
No one’s giving up a high pick for Quinnen Williams. He’s still a good player but he’s probably on the down slope of his career and nowhere near the pocket collapsing force he was a couple years ago. Defensive tackles have a hard time sustaining success because their whole job is about being physical and being pushed around by multiple guys. If someone gives you a high pick for him you better speed dial the commissioner to finalize it.
I would rather build around many of these guys than tear it down with too many trades. Only guy I want moved is MC2, even if that's just a late Day 3 pick. Otherwise, I'd rather hold onto everyone
Completely agree, but it's fair to ask if we're gonna turn it around by the time these guys are due new contracts and what their level of play will be at that point. I get why this FO might want the picks instead but I also would much rather keep these guys around. Q - he will be good for a while. Not great, but good. I'd keep him around as long as possible. JJ - you build around guys like him Quincy - on a proper deal, he's a cornerstone MC2 has been awful and his replacement so far (albeit 1 game) has been better. Breece probably has no desire to be back, nor do I see this front office bringing him back on the kind of contract he'll command.
Can you even trade Quincy Williams? he's hurt as fuck. If its possible then yeah Love Jermaine Johnson as a dude but it will be hard not to accept a trade for him. I think his future will consist of more games missed than played, so yeah make that move. McDonald for sure has flaws but I wouldn't trade him, I think at this point you try to develop his game
He's under contract with an $8 mil cap hit for whoever trades for him and when he's healthy that's a very good deal. I guess it depends on the trade partner and how the Jets view him. What's really fucking this all up is the Sherwood extension because he's been god awful. He's firmly on the books next year for $11.5 mil without an out until 2027. Do you want to spend almost $20 mil on linebackers when you're trying to rebuild?
Sherwood was better against Denver. It’s possible he’s settling in. This season isn’t written in stone yet for him
Im very very cautiously optimistic about a few guys on defense after Sunday. JJ being back undoubtedly helps. Brownlee flying everywhere helped too. Sherwood still had some serious brain farts but he recovered. Even if he ends up having a good season, can you see us paying two LBs $20 mil next year?
I’ve got no issues moving Quinnen, especially if it’s for a 1st. I think we have plenty of evidence by now how useless paying a game changing DT is when the rest of the team sucks.
He’s not out for the season, I feel like a team would gladly trade for him now to get him at full strength on a fair deal next year.
I do like Quincy, but I think he's a reasonable trade candidate given the amount of money they're paying Sherwood. I'd be open to resigning him, but couldn't pay $15mil/yr to him too. Wonder what his trade value is. A 4th? Kiko has a bit of an audition right now though and if plays well I bet they'd be more inclined to trade Quincy
I love what Kiko’s doing right now. I said it in a couple threads but young linebackers that fly around trying to make plays will always be welcome on my roster. He’s out of position sometimes and overruns plays but he’s tough, not willingly getting blocked out of players and not afraid to ram his shoulders into a guard to maintain his gap responsibilities. As good as Quincy was, it’s probably time to move on from him. He had one really good year and was a nice find but the majority of his career he’s disappeared for weeks at a time.
Absolutely not to JJ and McDonald’s. A fifth for Hall is pointless and worthless. Michael Carter, Quincey and Q are fair game if value is right. Wilson and Sauce are going no where. Keep all the youth, otherwise you digress.
Can we just trade the whole team? It will be way better off for the players, they deserve to play somewhere that isn't run by retards.
