I was reading the Colts board a bit yesterday and they were pretty surprised and annoyed that he was included. The feeling was that even with his somewhat lack of development that he would replace Pierce as the deep threat if he left in FA and was really just behind the logjam of Pittman, Pierce and Downs who all do different unique things for the offense. I also didn’t realize this guy was 6’2”, 205. I think he was one of those skinny 5’10” guys based on his 40. This is a good dart throw.
This is the only thing I am excited about from yesterday, kid can be electric if he gets his shit together.
I said this in the trade thread but ESPN cited Mitchell as top 10 at the separation metric, which is interesting because of what broke with Arian Smith this week. Seems like this is what Mougey values in receivers.
I really do like this dart throw. When his name was mentioned during cutdown day as a trade option I watched some stuff (I think that exact video) and really liked what I saw. Joe Blewett on Twitter is posting a ton of all-22 highlighting the good and bad. Here's a link to his profile there are too many tweets to link to individually: https://x.com/Joerb31 My conclusion is that he has no problems getting open but he's got some drops on his resume and he played with a god awful QB in Anthony Richardson. You can find so many instances in those clips where he was either missed for big gains/TDs or the ball was never even thrown his way. The bad news is we also have a terrible QB that can't throw or read the field. The good news is that Mitchell is under contract until 2027 so that shouldn't be an issue his whole Jets tenure. I think he's a really good compliment to Garrett and probably a better deep threat option than Arian Smith. I'm also seeing plenty of Colts fans upset over giving up on him because of that famous goal line fumble. That was before he was even traded... they were upset when he was benched. On that note, man could you imagine a world in which Jets fans are complaining about benching a good WR because we already have three good WRs in the rotation?!
Yah that sounds crazy I don’t know much about the guy, but we need as many options at WR as we can get…I’d like to see us rotate this kid, Metchie, Taylor (16) and Williams (18) and get them all reps opposite GW when he comes back and lets see if any of them show enough to earn playing time and to become a serious part of the rotation. This season was over a month ago, and now that we traded away our two best defenders, the only thing left is to see if we can find a hidden gem somewhere…but having one or two of these receivers show up would be a nice win for us
And throw Metchie into this mix as well. He fits the elite RAS mold of Smith and Mitchell. Now if we only had a QB that looked more than 10 yards down the field.
Hopefully one of the project speedsters pans out, and Draft a big proto-type WR early next draft to make the contested grabs to pair with Garrett and that makes a good starting trio
your man is Chris Brazzell II at Tennessee (formerly Tulane) Chris Brazzell II - Football - University of Tennessee Athletics We could probably get him with the Colts late 1st or our own early 2nd. big 6'5 outside possession wideout that uses his body well to shield off defenders. But he's not slow, hes a little like Tet McMillian with the Panthers. interesting - Chris Brazzell his father was a 6th round pick of the Jets back in the day but I have no memory of that. Anyway his father didn't make the active roster but would've been at camp and the practice squad battling against... Aaron Glenn
Jesus, I HATE to be a "downer" in all these threads... WHO is going to get this kid the ball? Deep threats require TIME to throw the ball and a "good" QB to get him the ball. Justin Fields is simply Anthony Richardson with more college wins. Besides, don't we already have a butter finger deep threat? We needed two to go along with our non-qb?
He catches with his palms, not his fingers. That annoys the crap out of me, but maybe he can make it work in the pros.
You wouldn't be the downer so often if you allowed yourself to understand that Fields was never the plan to be a long term QB but simply a roll of the dice to see if he could get hit by magic lightning while waiting for the right guy to come along. Now, it's in Mougey's hands to find that right guy for real and he has set himself up with some good picks over the next two drafts to find him. I would have no problem at all with doubling down on the quarterback position between now and 2027. Competition is good.
Even that fumble, it wasn't this moronic early celebration like Corley did. Take a careful look: https://x.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1972417847747088512 He basically wanted to move the ball from left to right hand and extend it to cross the line. I saw a lot of WRs do it when they cross. At the same time he looked back to see where the defender was and the ball slipped out on the exchange from left to right hand. He then immediately went after it to try to recover the fumble, but it went out of the end zone. Granted, a huge fuck up sure, but feels more of a freak accident and not stupidity like with Corley. Also, this was hell of a catch and got away from two defenders. Based on what I have seen so far, he still looks like a legit 2nd round talent. Great pick up there.
File this under “believe it when I see it” but a positive report from Hughes nonetheless: “Very quick observation from AD Mitchell from practice is he physically stands out. Impressive size. Natural runner. We don’t watch enough to say anything else, but he’s one of those dudes where if you took someone who knew nothing about the Jets, and asked them who looks the part, they’d point to him.”
Body catchers and bad hands catchers in the NFL have one future. The waiver wire. Literally doesn't matter how fast they can run or how high they can jump.
yeah it wasn’t as bad as Corleys. And pre-replay that’s a clear touchdown, the NFL just has to over analyze
He can cradle the ball in his arms over his shoulder when he’s catching 60 yard bombs with 6 yards of separation amirite or whut?
