I’m not saying that Glenn won’t eventually work out. But…Cignetti has proven that he is a winner at the college level and has turned multiple moribund programs into winners. He also knows how to get the most out of Mendozza. It might sound crazy, but this is the kind of bold move that just might finally turn this franchise around and do it quickly.
Not to say I don’t think it’ll ever happen but college to the pro’s has a long history of not working other than Carroll and Harbaugh. Cignetti also wouldn’t even entertain leaving to go to LSU, Florida, Auburn, Penn State, etc. I highly doubt he’d have any interest in coming here.
It would be another project coach. Winning on the college level is not the same as winning in the NFL. I'm not opposed to Mendozza, though, just don't throw him to the fire, give him some time to develop. Honestly, I would have agreed with firing Aaron Glenn after the first few games, but now I see a noticeable improvement on the team as far as discipline goes. Glenn inherited a mess of a team with penalties. Jets were worst in the league last year AND in 2023 in penalties per game and this year they are at around #20 and that's despite being penalty machines the first 2 games. Going from #1 to #20 in penalties per game shows that Glenn is doing something right, but as we know it takes time to lay a foundation and install a winning culture.
We should have hired Vrabel and Harbaugh too. None of those guys will coach the Jets because the well is poisoned.
It would cost so freaking much money. Woody Johnson would have to pay out Aaron Glenn’s contract, plus pay Cignetti a premium to get him to make the jump, plus buy out Indiana University which just gave Cignetti $93 million contract
Both great coaches, but they are from the 1980s and 1990s Would have to look at more recent college coaches to come to the NFL as those worlds were so different, in both the college and the NFL games…so not sure they are all that relevant. Would have to go look, but it seems like more of the HCs are coming from the coordinator NFL ranks than from the college ranks in say the last 10-15 years.
93m from a college program, fucking hell https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...ti will receive, salary term to $11.15 million.
Harvard's 2024 Endowment was 56 billion dollars. Listen. This is just endowment. Colleges in America print money.
Pretty laughable but understandable. Newer jet fans, That desperation to win catching up to the old ones Everybody wants that quick fix ROFL
