We should’ve had an Oregon vs USC PAC-10 championship last night so we got another exciting game to evaluate their QBs. But they had to go and be so stupid about it
I don't have a favorite this year to be honest. Sellers is raw talent. Can Jets develop him? Sure but I fear he might have a Trey Lance type of career. Moore seems OK too but didn't fall in love with him here. If say Jets pick 6th and either of Mendoza and Moore are there I am OK picking them. Say Sellers is available with Indiana's pick, I am OK to pick him there. What I am not OK is for Jets to trade up for any of this year's QB's.
Funny too. Lincoln Riley specifically complained after the Illinois game about the early start and traveling east and all that shit. USC was the biggest ring leader in breaking up the PAC-12. You’re right too. In the era of NIL the conference would be awesome right now. They probably would’ve added BYU by now too.
He seems like a good guy. I watched a highlight video of this game and he had some nice plays. He also had one bad play in the highlights on an intercepted screen. How did he play overall?
I watched the games, and also at this point I caught up in quite a few during the season where I think this is a 2 QB draft: Mendoza and Moore. They will go #1 and #2 overall. For me Moore is clear #1 and Mendoza #2, but teams can flip the order. Of course this is pending rest of the games and other process that remains, but for now I do think both will come out and be gone by #2 pick. Mendoza was not perfect on Saturday, but he played against a team that has a lot of future NFL defenders. He has good enough arm, and he makes very good decisions. Even the pick he had I don't think was his fault. He processes reasonable well too. He also will pick up yards on the ground. I would be very happy if we end up with him om the draft night. Moore to me has a higher ceiling. He processes very quickly and has a better arm than Mendoza. He doesn't run much, but he will do it when he needs to. He is also 20 years old and demonstrated significant growth throughout the season. I can visually see his releases are getting faster from earlier in the year. I would have no hesitation spending #1 overall on him or trading up for him. Simpson I still think is a 1st round pick. He does have a good arm and can process as well. On Saturday he was under siege. It was hard to judge him. The pick he threw was not good though and I saw similar pick a game or two ago, which means same mistakes are repeating. He also missed a couple of easy screen passes. But he had some incredible plays as well. That scramble where he ran towards the sideline to his right and then launched a rocket to hit his guy in the chest in the endzone was pretty amazing. The guy dropped it, but from the QB perspective this was great to see. I am also concerned about his height. A few balls were batted down. Yes, some of it had to do with pressure, but had he been even an inch taller I think it could have helped. He is listed 6-2, but probably is between 6-0.5 and 6-1.5. Very few QBs at this height have gone on to succeed. Overall, I am getting concerned. There is a pretty high probability that the Browns and the Raiders, who are tanking very hard, will end up with top 2 picks. Then there is 0 chance we are getting Moore or Mendoza in that scenario. I hope there will be the Titans or even the Giants who will have one of these picks.
Can't help but feel like a proverbial train would hit Mendoza if he came to New York with the Jets. Reality would hit him hard Put me on the Dante Moore bandwagon I guess
If there were a gun to my head and I had to choose Moore would be the option. Mendoza will get his ass handed to him in NY and it has nothing to do with football. I would view that as a 1a and 1b total success if the Jets were forced to actually draft players that were NOT a QB in the 2026 draft.
Your first point, unfortunately you may not be wrong and it's probably the biggest issue in NY sports outside of Woody. New York sports fans need to get off their self anointed pedestal and realize they are a dime a dozen in terms of opportunity and legacy. "It's different if you win in New York." Sure, if you're talking about Minnesota or Carolina. You win in LA, your immortalized. Chicago? Immortalized. Miami, Toronto (Canada's only franchise in several sports). Lived near Boston for almost a decade, you win there you're never buying a beer again. There are a lot of places that have pressure and big rewards for winning it all. The biggest difference is the NY media and fans want instant gratification and become blood hounds when it doesn't happen. I have deep NY roots, but if I was an elite athlete (I'm not) and I had several big city suitors, why TF would I pick New York given the media/fans constant need for a pound of flesh. A lot of Jets fan wanted Glenn fired in like 3 weeks, you cannot work with that. Now because Mendoza was goofy, after winning a championship and doing things that college has never done, media pundits and fans are already laying the ground work that he will get eaten alive. Can't work with that. 20 yr old was excited, how tragic. That's not even touching taxes/political stuff.
I understand what you are saying but last week someone posted the video of Aaron Glenn being miked up for the Falcons game. Glenn's running around the field cussing it up, "do your fucking job" blah blah, "make a fucking play!" and guys with serious grown man problems, on the other team no less, are telling him his tough love saved his life. I dont see that nerd Mendoza walking into that environment and the always tough luck NY Jets, with "gosh darn it lets win the friggin superbowl!" and coming out successful Also while Indiana University had never won a championship like that, Mendoza has been at Indiana for less than a year. Their past is irrelevant. This time last year Mendoza was quitting on his team (California) and hitting the transfer portal. So its not like he has a long history with that school and working through the adversity they dealt with
Can someone PLEASE pin this to the top of whatever list? Please!!!??!!! If for nothing else, so that the fools that keep yapping as if the FANS have nothing to do with the success/failure of an athlete, in that market, just shut the fuck up!! These people ARE human, contrary to popular belief, and just because they happen to play a game better and get paid a shit ton of money to do so doesn't negate that. LIFE, in general, is all about what goes on in people's minds. I don't care what you do. If you have millions of people, yes millions, constantly bitching and harping (as if they actually know anything) on a near daily/constant basis, it's going to have an impact. If millions of people told me, daily, I sucked at my job it's going to have an impact. Hey, from a football standpoint, Mendoza certainly looked the part. He played very well and could actually turn out to be a solid pro...somewhere else. I know it, everyone on this board knows it, whether they want to admit it to themselves or not. And, just because they get paid millions of dollars to play a game doesn't just wipe off the board human feelings, reaction, dignity and how they handle things. Oh, also, it's got NOTHING to do with pressure. Pressure is 3 and 9 and hitting Wilson across the middle, in traffic, for a 1st down. Pressure is NOT a bunch of whiney fans/media, who absolutely think they know it all, blowing a man up, daily, because they think they know better and it gives them the right to call a man out his name. Just seeing how Mendoza handled himself, post game, tells me he will NEVER survive NY. Why do I know this? How about 40+ years of experience WATCHING it happen on constant repeat.
Your point is well taken sir but, please do acknowledge the point I'm making is so valid that it sucks. And, it SHOULD NOT be that way. When I call them kids, guess what, they ARE kids. 18 says you're an adult. Well, these KIDS have been diapered, powdered and pampered their whole lives. MANY of them simply aren't capable of dealing with a place, like NY, until they mature. Problem is, "we" do not allow that to happen. Darnold is a CLASSIC example of that. Got away from NY, bounced around a spot or two, got his head screwed on straight and he damn well could be the MVP of the league this year. If I'm a NY sports fan, I take a step back and ask the question, why is that? It's CAN'T all be Woody Johnson's fault, now can it? Quick Edit: Making this point clear...I, by no means, am exonerated from this either. I do it too and, hopefully, I can work on myself to not do it in the future! At least, do less for sure. Some things are hard to break. One that is near impossible: NY'ers who feel, just because they placed their hard earned $$ on a sports team, get to tear, rip or otherwise call a man out their name just because they spent a bit of coin on something. More than one poster on this board has justified their stance and the fans because, well, hey, they spent their hard earned cash so they in turn can act like an asshole and act like jackasses to these players because, of course, THEY know EVERYTHING and THEY expect it to be the way they want it just because....... Climbing off my soap box.
Because no matter what he's not going to see instant success like that with the Jets. He's going to get punched in the mouth and this time there isn't a transfer portal
This seems like disdain for a system and we are picking Mendoza to be the example of that. That is college football, transfers and NIL. You're really pigeon holing your options if you are trying to avoid that. QBs are going to transfer, dominate and get drafted top 3. Isn't Moore the same? Honest question im not sure.
