They tanked the right year, got the 3d pick in a 3 QB draft and got a good one. Maye transcended the shitty regime that drafted him, and they found the right coach. A coach we could have had if dumbass Woody fired Bob a year earlier like he should have. And we could even had the QB too if we didn't win a couple of meaningless games at the end, like that Washington game and that last game again the Patriots. Really sucks.
Cmon Borat... The Jets had ZERO chance to sign Vrabel. Vrabel always wanted to coach his old team and he used the Jets as leverage. The Jets even made a last minute offer that Vrabel refused. Woody is the worst owner in professional sports BUT, let's not pile on things that aren't accurate.
Of course last year we didn't, but I am talking about about the year before when Kraft decided to keep Mayo and Vrabel was out of a job. Had Woody fired Bob a year earlier, like he should have, we could have had Vrabel at that point. That would be the equivalent of dumb ass Woody being a proverbial blind squirrel finding a nut. But he was too stupid even for that. Now we are fucked again until next time.
My bad... The one thing that has to change for this organization to move forward is for Woody to change his hiring requirements or abdicate that to a competent person. He's still scarred from Parcells and Belichek walking out on him obviously and to this day, absolutely refuses to hire anyone with successful prior HC experience. Gase was the outlier but upon closer inspection, Gase might as well been another newbie. My idea Org. Chart would read this way: Mougey GM & defacto VP of Football OPs. -> Mougey Hired HC with a successful (above .500) resume as HC -> HC hired experienced staff for all units. Something has to give. If not, Woody can move the team to London and the NFL will grant NY another AFC franchise at the next expansion. NY keeps the name "Jets" however just like Cleveland kept the name "Browns".
Yeah, funny that they made the Browns leave all of that name and colors and records in Cleveland for a new expansion team to pick up, but they didn’t do that when the Oilers left Houston…they should have done the same thing there and leave the Oilers name and colors in Houston
The problem is that the "competent person" you speak of is someone Woody needs to find. Which is the problem to begin with, so effectively it's the same thing! It's basically a GM. I am afraid there is no solution to this problem. There was a ray of hope when Chris took over, and I actually think Chris' approach would work longer term. He tried to find an offensive coach, which was the right idea, but as @Jets79 and I already mentioned, he ignored the fact Gase's offense sucked for last 3 years and was heavily influenced by Peyton Manning. He then tried to get a GM from successful organization. He then had this GM find his own coach. Now, yes all of that failed, but I think longer term this type of approach would eventually succeed, assuming he could learn lessons from the failures. For example, a successful OC with HoF QB, whose offense then sucks for 3 years without said QB is not a good hire. Look for an offensive guy, that is not wrong, but with recent success. Hiring someone like JD honestly was not a bad move. The only red flag about JD really is that his rise was abnormally quick, he only had 4 years in a sr role before becoming a GM. 1 year in Chicago and then 3 years in Philly. He was just a scout in Baltimore. He didn't work out, but in general longer term an executive from a successful team approach should work out. So if Chris stayed longer, maybe he would have learned, I don't know. Look at Kraft, he kept Belichick too long, but then got rid of him even though he was a legendary coach. Imagine that, dumped the guy who won 6 SBs when he failed to make play-offs for 2 years in a row. Dumbass Woody wouldn't even dump Bob, who was a nobody, after 3 years of failure and no success at all. If he did, he could have stumbled into Vrabel by accident. Then Kraft dumped Mayo, a franchise legend, after 4-13 year. Woody is too stupid to do the same to Glenn. Which brings us to Brick. I honestly think he is the only hope. Woody is not selling and he is too dumb and too far gone. Can't teach old dog new tricks. Maybe Brick will do something different that will work. Like giving GW that game ball, which in retrospect was the right move. lol. We can only hope.
What about a Cousins and Mendoza pairing? Too much Bible thumping? QB room would have some sick Dungeons and Dragons tournaments I actually love the idea, a better mentor you couldn't make up if you tried. Similar in so many ways, strong mental game, faith, similar styles, builds. Cousins wouldn't be cheap but Mendoza would so it balances out.
Got the idea because GW liked this clip and commented on it. https://x.com/i/status/2001477747852341324
This is the exact problem. Woody is a fucking imbecile, who has shown literally ZERO capacity to learn from mistakes. He literally has hired the SAME fucking guy 6 times in a row…only the names have changed…Herm, Mangini, Rex, Bowles, Saleh and now Glenn. All first time DC’s trying to learn how to be a good HC. You would think that anyone with a fucking brain would look back and say, ok hey, what has worked and what hasn’t? And then when you stumble on the coincidence that ALL of these failures were first time DC’s, maybe you’d say ok let’s try another way since that hasn’t worked out well for us. You’d think he’s see that we drafted Sanchez, Darnold, and Wilson all top 5 and wow, we haven’t been able to identify true quality QB talent 2 out of the 3, and the one we DID find in Darnold, our coaches couldn’t develop. It’s honestly so fucking mind-boggling that he can’t see this shit…it’s so painfully fucking obvious. But yeah, Woody is THAT much of a fucking clueless idiot
This is what you get when you let someone with money, who has never done a fucking thing with their lives, run an organization that require management of people. In any fashion. The reason he doesn't learn is because, somehow in this country, "we" all equate money with intelligence and, hell, if you have someone who thinks money means they know it all then how in the hell are you going to learn anything. You can "feel" it when he talks. Ole' Woody Johnson thinks he knows what the fuck he's talking about yet, that asshole wouldn't be able to think his own ass out of a wet paper bag when it comes to pumpkin carving. Let alone running a god damn NFL franchise. His EGO, bolstered by billions of unearned "family dollars" won't allow him to actually admit to himself that he doesn't know a god damn thing about football and, fast forward some 20+ years later, probably knows LESS than when he started. MOST NORMAL people would have learned the game or something. Not this tool. He's got money so, by default, he knows it all. Can't remember the team, but I read an article recently where one of the daughters of the owner spends her days at the football facilities, with her mouth SHUT, learning! The article was VERY clear and concise that, when she does have questions, she waits to ask so she's not impacting the daily operations. She knows, one day, she'll be in charge and doesn't want to come off like an uninformed moron. You think Woody Johnson ever did any of that? Hell, where's that little turd burglar, Brick? Shouldn't his entitled stupid ass be sitting in meetings and/or all the different operations LEARNING? One day he'll be handed the keys to the team and, knowing that family, he'll roll up like he's a HoF owner not knowing a damn thing. Lastly, of course, they could always do like many have suggested and give ALL decision making to a knowledgeable football person and then get out of the way. But, WHY would they do that? You see, they are billionaires so, in turn, they know everything.
If our week one starting quarterback is Kirk cousins and our week 10 starting quarterback is Dante Moore than we had a good offseason. edit: good offseason in the QB room
