I wouldn't say this is that good of a hire. His corners have been notoriously bad, and had it not been for Polamalu + Hope having an excellent 2004 campaign, his secondary would've been horrible. A lot of the Steelers pass defense success is based off their ability to not necessarily sack the quarterback, but hurry him.
Yea, his front 7 really saved him in Pittsburgh, but that may have been because he lacked CB talent, not because he's a bad coach. He definitely has the speed and size with these corners in Oakland, and now it's up to him to get a couple of their heads into the game and make this defense elite.
Here is why it is a very good hiring. Raiders have the Cbs and don't need anything from a DB coach in that area, not to mention willie Brown works alot with the Cb position. Here is where it could play the biggest dividends is at safety position. Raiders have alot talent at safety and IF Perry could get the same results he got out of his safeties in Pittsburgh, than Raiders defense goes up another notch.
Because Lane has the desire to be headcoach and his old man does not. IF monte Kiffin wanted to be Headcoach ,he would have an NFl headcoaching job by now. He just dosen't want to uproot his family and is contempt where he is.
