They don't serve alcohol at any night games anymore, I believe it was from the Monday Night Stands On Fire against Buff. I could be wrong though...
The fire was the 1988 Buffalo MNF. I was at an ugly one in 1990 and there was the 1992 MNF game where Browning Nagle fought Bruce Smith--the highlight of his career, by the way. That was the last home MNF appearance until Jacksonville in 1999. Regarding fans selling to opposing fans, you're going to have some of that anywhere. I see mostly Jet fans and I go to almost every game.
There is some truth to that as someone got stabbed at the Jets/Saints game from 05...the sunday night game after Thanksgiving. Prolly Russo Just saying that because of his dislike for the Jets.
He hates all the NY teams and fans. I was at the Saints game, I remember it being a younger, rowdier crowd bcause it was a night game between two bad teams. People were chanting for Reggie Bush in the section behind me--ironically the Saints beat us and still ended up with Reggie. Typical.
The worst "behavior period" for Jets fans had to be about 1985-1988. I don't know why, but in all my years, it's like those were the craziest. A lot of drugs, lots of fights, security wasn't worth a sh*t, people used to get really, really sh*t-face drunk. Then they'd get in their cars and drive home! The DWI thing wasn't yet in full swing... maybe that was part of it, I don't know. And I was just as bad... going thru a mid-life crisis (and a divorce), I'd go out to the circular ramp with whoever I was with and take a few hits on a joint. Well, people were out there with mirrors laying on a 45-degree angle along that concrete railing, snorting lines in broad f*cking daylight. Chugging beer, smoking and coking, the whole scene was a football version of the Paladium in NYC. I mean, totally out of control. Now, you couple all that with the fights in the stadium, it was nuts. My buddy invited a girlfriend from Seattle one time to a Seahawks game and she wore her colors. Well, people behind us were throwing stuff at our seats... I damn-near lost my season tix over getting into it with them. Ah.... the good old days....
This may be one of the funniest TGG posts I have ever read in history..."Smoking and coking." Had me laughing hysterical...That post is HILARIOUS.
Sounds like Clyde Frazier describing an 80s Jet game. I think overall things were easier to get away with then. Plus we had just moved to the Meadowlands and there was this feeling that it wasn't our stadium so it didn't matter. Who knew we'd be there for a couple more decades?
I have never had a problem with Miami fans and I have been to at least 7 games there -- Now Buffallo thats another story
I don't think you have ever been to a Jets game in your life. When the team is playing well the stadium is rocking all game. The stadium was amazing this year for the Colts game, Dolphins game, Patriots game, and Raiders game.
We are loud when the team is doing well, yes, but isn't every fan base? I guess it all depends on what section you sit on if you see a lot of people throwing shit and getting in the faces of opposing fans. Personally, I did in the Detroit game this past season and whatever, it's all fun to see the opposing fans get all worked up.
I've been to enough to know that the crowds at Giants stadium for our home games have been horrendous outside the Colts and Raiders game.
True, in that 85-88 period, I remember going to lots of games and the general feeling amongst the fans were that we'd be back at Shea by 89. I still to this day have very little respect for Giants stadium, but treat Shea as if it was the Sistine Chapel (I'm also a Mets fan). Not that I'd get destructive during games, but it's just not home. It would be weird if the Jets played the last official football game at Giants Stadium, I know the league would probably schedule the NYG to play there last, but with the direction both franchises are heading in, I can see us hosting playoff games in the coming years while they're out of it by November. I wonder how the Jets fan will act once our time at the Meadowlands is over, will we silently shuffle out or take a few souvenirs...if you know what I mean, just to spit on the Giants prized cement dish 227 is right though, that place was maniacal in the mid to late 80's, but so were a lot of sporting venue in the area. Madison Square Garden was even worse if you can imagine. Nothing like the 3/4 full library it is now. Ranger fans once attacked an ambulance Pat Lafontaine was being taken to the hospital in, they chanted in unison for Ron Hextall to perish in a car crash like Pelle Lindberg. You could get away with just about anything then.
yeah we were banned- some guy in the 300's makes a big paper bonfire in the aisle- I mean BIG and lights it up and then pulls his pants down to his ankles and stands there in all his glory- that and 6-7 fights in the stands that night- GLORIOUS!
