Why did we change the scoring catagories?

Because holds are completely retarded and throw every draft strategy, guide, ranking, and recommendation I've ever heard completely out the window.

So basically, because you don't like it, you decided to throw the vote results from last year out the window. All holds are are saves for non-closers. They are awarded if a pitcher enters the game in a save situation and gets at least an out without blowing the lead. A lot of the time, the outs in the 7th inning are more important than the outs in the 9th. Are there some retarded holds awarded? Yes, but there are some retarded saves too. I think the holds should be brought back. Sorry if it ruins your personal strategy, but it's really not that big a deal. Take some set up guys instead of extra starters and you're all set. I like it because it adds realism as far as using set up guys too, and it means you need more knowledge of players. Again, we voted last year, and it was decided to have them. I don't see why it should just change on a whim.

I am totally against Holds in fantasy baseball. On a draft board, it makes the likes of Karl Farnsworth equal to Rivera (for example) which is total garbage. I don't see why anyone would like it.

With that being said, it should take a vote to change anything in this league. Sets a bad precedent, and that is not how we work.

It wasn't enacted by a vote, it was a throw-in by Buttle last season. I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the first time around either.

Of the 30-40 possible categories I could possibly think of to rank players, holds is the last one I would pick in all honesty.

A reliever could come in, walk 2 guys, get taken out, and get a hold if the lead isn't blown.

It's a horrible stat and a worse fantasy stat.

Plus it fucks with strategy. With only 2 slots potentially available to relievers, I can't actually make a decent attempt at controlling both stats if I WANTED to. Not to mention how it throws player rankings out the window. Holds are not in the league with saves, in stats or reality.

This whole "holds" debate every year is getting tiresome.

It was enacted by a vote the first year, and then it was backed up with another vote last year. Are we going to have to go through this every year? Yahoo does it's rankings based on the catagories of the league so I don't understand your point on that MS. If you can't conform you drafting strategy to the stats of the league without using a guide then maybe you're not ready for the big leagues. The format we've used promotes balanced teams instead of going for 4 starters and 4 closers, which is not realistic.

Why have 2 RP spots if RP's only value is saves? What team in baseball has 2 closers? Nobody. Teams have a closer and a set up man.

I wont get into this now while I am at work and will post my entire thoughts tomorrow when I have time.
its a good thing that my first response didnt make it in because it was pretty viscous.

I don't need your vicious thoughts, Buttle.

I said when I made the league that I made that change for now. I didn't sneak it in, I said negotiable. I just thought the holds-negativity was more widespread.

I'd like to see a new vote on this.

One thing I think we can all agree on is that we should post all league specs in this thread so we have a record of it. Draft order, league stats, maybe even weekly/monthly standings.

Re-reading this thread from the start I see we definitley voted to include holds the first year. We had a 6-6 deadlock last year which resulted in a push. Since we're returning the same 12 managers (10P10 voted for his team last year)... at the very least we should vote again. Simply eliminating the stat because the new commish doesn't like it is shwag.

A top closer is one of the best commodities in fantasy baseball. Dirt low ERA/WHIP, saves, and Ks.

Fair enough, I didn't see your "negotiable" comment earlier. This is good dialougue, everybody get's a chance to vent... the way good leagues work.

We hash out the votables, put forth a ballot, then vote on possible changes. So far it appears e have three issues.

    Promotion/Relegation. Dumpinging inactives. Holds.
