i'm totally with you on this one. i've never spoken up, but i always feel this way when i read his posts. Cover-2 and salary cap. those are two big reasons why they released him. i think Porter would be a very nice addition. he may need to curb his mouth in Mangini's locker room, but his attitude and fire will be much appreciated and welcomed by Mangini. Porter wants to attack QB's and win. what more could you ask for? and seriously, how is Porter garbage? cheers
You wnat Thomas who will cost more and has produced less than porter who is just a year older and has been a great player in this league for years? Sure he is a loudmouth but we need a guy like that. I'd love Joey porter, someone else mentioned it- he could be this teams version of bryan Cox.
Good question. Barton could still start, or be excellent depth at a key position in our defensive scheme. Porter would bring the attitude the D needs...the kind of attitude a guy like Barton already has. Barton IS our Porter right now. What would be the problem with having them on the team or field at the same time?
That sucks for Pitt. They had a possible trade partner....and they let them go and ended up reelasing the guy anyways....at the least they could have had something for him.
i will be insanely angry and this will be a reason our team takes a step back. a move must be made on one of them a very legit move. not just an article mentioning our name.
Fins interested in Porter http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...hins,0,5044423.story?coll=sfla-dolphins-front along with the Schefter report of A.Thomas to Pats, if Porter goes to the Fins...that would be a disappointing first day. (not that I want Porter on the Jets, just that I don't want him on the Fins)
I thought this team really lacked a fire on defense. If Porter can be had at a reasonable price, I would welcome him. Also, I think Hobson is a much better fit inside than he is out and I think his talents would be more suited to that role. -X-
just fuckin great, either way if the pats land a.thomas you can wave goodbye to the dream of taking them over next yr.
Apparently the Jets are shopping Barton. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/501919p-423286c.html Also in the notebook section, Cimini cites a "source" saying that the Jets going after Porter is "highly unlikely" (hopefully they are focusing on Thomas)
I think the Bryan Cox comparison as far as an on field prescence is right on and something this team could use. Not to mention he's also a helluva player and would instantly improve our pass rush. There's really only a handful of teams that would be interested in but hopefully we make a strong push early.
Straight from ESPN: The Insider http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=2784938&searchName=clayton_john&campaign=rsssrch&source=john+clayton This cannot be about fan favorites. If it meant signing Joey Porter, I would personally show Eric Barton the door.
This team is at least 2 maybe 3 years from being a serious contender. Signing any 30 year old players for big money is a waste.
Thomas is a little bit different. Sure he will be 30, but he wasn't a full-time starter since he entered the NFL. He will be 30 when the season starts, but he's coming off his best year and he has "low mileage." My only concern is that he was playing on a defense with great players especially on the D-line. Not that the Jets don't have some playmakers on D, but the Jets D, as a whole is not nearly the caliber of the Ravens
There is no way were getting Thomas unless we unload the vault and by the time we are a serious contender he will be 32, 33 which for a LB is in the death zone. He doesn't make us a contender he does make the Pats one and SF with a couple of solid moves actually might have a shot to compete hard in the NFC next year.
says who, maybe not by just this move alone. but if we did some things here and there we could at least win another 10 games instead of probably regressing to 8-8 which is what the avg fan expects this yr. and my eaerlier comment was moreso out of the anger of the possibility of Thomas going to the pats. in that case we can forget about being mentioned in any breaths of the playoffs.
