They were discussing the Thomas Jones trade and both were happy with what the Jets got. Got a proven running back who will be 29, but doesn't have the wear and tear that most RBs do... They were discussing Joey Porter to Miami, Adalius Thomas to New England, how the division is improving, etc... Then Joe says he'd love for the Jets to get Randy McMichael, who he feels is better than Daniel Graham...
Might be a dumb question seeing hes a high named TE... but can he block? I tend not to follow anything Dolphin-esk.
I suppose having two good TE's is worth something but I don't understand why everybody seems to be down on Baker. He's produced fairly well in the chances he's had with the Jets and his only injury was a freak.
That's what I was thinking. McMichael is a pass-catching TE not a blocker. He's a replacement for Baker not somebody to play alongside him. The Jets need a 280lb roadgrading TE as Baker's backup. That's the kind of guy you slot in when you want to go two TE's and try and push the other team off the line of scrimmage.
After seeing Baker catch that one ball against the Browns (which they didnt call a catch) i love him. I wouldnt mind having McMichael, but i wouldn't consider that a team need. I believe on the offensive side of the ball we need a FB more then a TE. Everyone seems to be high on that dude from Atlanta, but i cant seem to get my mind off Brian Leonard.
same here man, same here leonard is a tougher version of richie anderson who could just help the jets in so many ways
Does Leonard need to be in every thread? I'd prefer not to draft BJ Askew again, because that's who Leonard is, and when we drafted him in round 3, all hell broke loose on this board, and for good reason.
I agree totally. I feel he has proven he can block sufficiently, and has made some acrobatic catches as well as some great runs after the catch. He has dropped a couple of balls, but even the 'great' T.O has done that. I think he needs to be more involved in the offense, which will allow him to improve even more.
Mcmichael is almost like another WR. Dont think he is a very good blocker. I would rather have Graham then him.
If we were to sign Randy McMichael we'd be bringing in another pass catching Tight End which is what this offense does not need. We have that man in Chris Baker but unfortunately we needed to keep him in to block more often than not last season. McMichael also clearly dislikes the Jets from his many on the field tactics and off the field comments (no links to support this but if you've seen games and watched post game interviews you'd know this as well). Daniel Graham is a blocker more than he is anything else and would be a better fit for us so we could let Baker go out into the field more and show off his pass catching / play making abilites that will never come out until we get a decent run blocking / pass protection type Tight End. Randy McMichael is not that man UNLESS they plan to keep Baker in his current role.
