Browns Trade Droughns to Gmen... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adam Schein is reporting that the Giants have dealt WR Tim Carter to Cleveland for RB Reuben Droughns
I guess we're trying to build the biggest, angriest backfield we can. Not a bad idea, judging by the current shape of the line. I like Tim Carter, the guy's one hell of an athlete, but I don't trust his health for a minute. Glass bones and paper ligaments.
y they trade? droughns was gonna be released.Browns | Droughns to be released Thu, 8 Mar 2007 16:15:25 -0800 Adam Schefter, of NFL Network, reports Cleveland Browns RB Reuben Droughns will be released
Oh, yeah, I forgot about lewis, but they still might go for AP as the RBOTF...Lewis is on his last legs.
i dont get why the gmenw ould do this...droughnes has a big salary and he is a big back...just like jacobs....
Yeah, i can't understand this trade either. Tim Carter was showing some promise, and with Amani Toomer getting old enough to join AARP, why trade him? And Droughns is just as slow as Jacobs...just doesn't make sense. Glad we've got Tannenbaum
You don't need to hold running backs out their first year like you do a QB. If they were to draft him and make him sit the entire front office would be shot by the fans. I'm guessing they will trade out of that spot. Besides, that's been the rumor for awhile. Both they and detroit might. Watch out for NE moving up with their 2 first rounders.
Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the New York Giants have acquired running back Reuben Droughns from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for wide receiver Tim Carter. Droughns will move into a two-headed backfield in New York along with burly running back Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs didn't overly impress the coaching staff last season with his ability to convert short-yardage situations. The two will certainly compete for carries. It's difficult to speculate how the team will use either, but this definitely puts into question the Giants' public feeling that Jacobs can handle the majority of the load. Droughns is not nearly as explosive or versatile as former starting running back Tiki Barber, so don't necessarily expect Tiki-like numbers from his new replacement. He has proven ability as a receiver, though. Keep an eye on the situation throughout the rest of the offseason to see exactly how the Giants plan to use Droughns and how many carries he can expect to see per game. With the draft approaching, it is still possible for the Giants to bring in a young, third running back to throw into the mix as well. The Giants' offense benefits from having a solid veteran to rely on in case Jacobs isn't capable of staying fresh throughout the season with more carries. With two competent backs sharing the load, the running attack can stay strong throughout a whole game instead of wearing down late. At the same time, this hurts the fantasy value of both Droughns and Jacobs. With no clear split, both represent risk in fantasy drafts and full-retention keeper leagues. Having a solid running game could help alleviate some of the pressure on still-developing franchise quarterback Eli Manning, so their success is crucial to his fantasy value as well. Carter will look to jump-start his injury-derailed career in Cleveland. A second-round disappointment, Carter has only shown flashes of the talent that made him a high pick in the 2002 draft. In an offense that struggled to produce last season and is highly unsettled at the quarterback position, as of now it is difficult to imagine Carter putting up serviceable fantasy numbers in the 2007 season. http://www.kffl.com/article.php/64918/58
Since the Jets play the Giants, I fully expect Droughns to play like an actual RB in the league and get his 145 yds and 2 TDs on us....
Why get another big plodding RB? Makes no sense. I would not be surprised to see the Giants take a Booker or Irons type RB in the second round of the draft. What happened to Little John? Did he die in NFL Europa?
I think its a pretty good pickup for the Giants. Droughns was a 1200 yard back two years ago and played on a team with no qb and a garbage offensive line this year. They gave up a guy who's gonna be their fourth reciever if Sinorice Moss can emerge. A fourth reciever for a candidate to fill their running back position is a good deal. I mean seriously as good as the TJ deal was (the smartest all off-season I believe), we did also give up a fourth rounder for friekin Kevan Barlow.
So what happens to the roster bonus due to Droughns? Presumably the Giants are on the hook for that one with the trade?
anyone that doesn't think this is a good trade for the giants confuses me...to me, it just looks like the browns are trying to run themselves into the ground (and out of cleveland again). tim carter? are you serious? tim carter hasn't done much of anything in the nfl and you're going to trade a guy who has run for over 1000 yds on the browns for him? droughns has proven he can last in this game. he's not tiki barber, but maybe coughlin can get the most out of him the way he did with tiki. as for tim carter, sure he's got promise, but it's been 5 yrs of injuries if i'm not mistaken. i'll take my chances on the proven RB any day. the only thing that would hold me back on this trade is the money
