I don't know about anyone else, but I'm going stir-crazy lately with the lack of any meaningful Jets news. The Star-Ledger is just about void of any Jets information whatsoever and I visit the board and find 10-page Anthony Schlegal threads and guys talking about pictures and past Draft HOF'ers, etc. I guess we're all "speculated out" about what will happen on Draft Weekend, but it can't get here too fast for me. Are any of you guys going to the actual Draft or going to any of the Draft Bars in Jersey, like Poor Billy's, for example? It might be fun to get some guys together for a little beer drinking and roudiness, just a thought. Can't wait for April!
The Draft makes me hate March madness even more. Just like Opening Day makes me hate the US Open. Thank God for the NFL Network.
couldn't agree with you more, although FA has slowed down significantly, the jets signing has slowed after the coleman signing. First we hear all this news about columbo, its false, than we hear about bowens (lvoe the signing for depth and maybe at OLB) and apparently they cant come ot agreement, so essentially nothing has happened in about 3 weeks, so as jet fans its very disapointing knowing that we have holes to fill, and possible players albeit probably depth players out to their to fill some of those holes. the draft will come and it will be exciting and than nothnig wil happen till late july, but thats how the offseason works
I'm pretty psyched for the draft, and the Jets home site has put up a countdown clock to make matters worse. Anyway, I'm not sure where the Jets draft day parties are going to be this year I don't think they have been announced yet. Poor Billys closed down, it is now some kind of steak house. I haven't been in there so I'm not sure if it is still a sports type of venue...
I really cant wait either... The last 4 years or so me and my college buddies made it a ritual to get together and drink all day. We do this thing where you have to finish a beer for every pick in the first round before the time runs out. Me... I make it to round 8 or 9 and my day is ruined ha ha. But we do have this 450 pound dude that made it through the whole first round 2 years strong ha ha!
At least as we approach Draft Day the sportswriters fine tune it and handicap the available talent and give us something to speculate about. The Star Ledger always does a pretty good job of doing a daily review of each position leading up to Day One. They'll take the RT position, for example, on a Tuesday, and highlight all the projected top guys and then compare that with what the needs are of the Jets and Giants and the likelyhood that one or the other will go after one of them. So at least I can read all about that stuff approaching Draft Day and that helps familiarize the different options available to the Jets, but this dead period right now has me going bonkers.
Same here dude. I think the Jets signing Coleman actually sparked my draft interest like tenfold. It opened up so many doors for us to go on day 1. We'll be looking for D-lineman obviously, but more for depth than a future star/starter. I'm excited to see us tackle the G, OLB, and CB holes though. This draft has enough depth at those positions that we should be able to grab someone decent at each...at least I hope so.
What gets me pumped is what Tangini was able to accomplish in last year's draft. No one can deny that we got terrific value for our picks last year. With the possible exception of Ferguson who, to some, has so far not lived up to the #4 hype, we knocked the cover off the ball. And I say the jury is still WAY out on D'Brickashaw, because he's still a great kid with a lot of talent and still learning, so the potential is still there for him to have a kick-ass season and break out. But even the Star Ledger gave us (I think) an "A-" last year, and they've always been more of a "Giants newspaper" than a Jets paper. So I'm optimistic about what we'll do this year and I trust Tangini will bring home the bacon again. The Thomas Jones fleecing took a lot of pressure off the RB situation and now we can address the needs that will eventually keep uys in the playoffs for years to come.
does anyone know how to go about getting into the live draft...are there tickets? or is it first come first serve?
I'm glad to hear some one else feels this way, hey I just hope we can get a few impact players and upgrades for the future, take a look and critique. 1 moss_jarvis 2a ramirez_manuel 2a free_doug 3 newton_joe/ 5 smith_ryan 6 waters_anthony this in my opinion is a good draft and there are good FA prospects for next year with all our premiere guys locked up we look very good.
No offense meant towards you, but I don't like those picks. Moss is not right for the Jets. He's too thin and he's 4-3 material. Ramirez is a big stiff. He should not be drafted on day one. If the Jets want to take a flier on him in round 6 or 7, so be it. Newton will not be a prolific pass receiver. I would not select a TE on day one who will not be a good pass receiver. He's a good blocker, however. But to take a TE on day one, he's got to be good at both aspects. I come from the school of thought that you should select a QB in every draft. I'd like the Jets to get John Beck. He's the type of guy who should be a quality backup for a decade.
I'm going to regret doing this but whatever... You're underrating Ramirez. Though the injuries have hurt his status, I still see alot more places ranking him as a 2nd/3rd/MAYBE 4th guy. Beyond that: I'm not a big fan of this mock. I still like Moss deep down, but he doesn't seem as quick as you would want.
I'm not going to debate this much. I only saw him play a few times. There's probably no one here who can claim to be a Manuel Ramirez expert. But from seeing the guy in action a couple times he struck me as being too stiff and it's going to be a problem in the NFL. I don't expect the guy to be a regular starter in the NFL.
im pumped for the draft, cant wait....hate the fact that there is little or nothing in the papers about the jets/nfl in general.
