As long as they can afford the roster spot. I was thinking as you about moving him inside which might make Vilma the one they trade. In that case they would get a lot more. I can't imagine they draft a LB at #25 without some change occuring.
Maybe Spencer is versatile enough to do that, but how many guy's in the year's draft could do that? Maybe Jarvis Moss, but that's not happening. Francis from Hawaii could, definitely, but that's not the 1st round. Would Poz fit into that system that you just outlined? As an aside, and yes, I realize how stupid a question this is, how do you quote other posts?

The thing about Spencer is his size. A 265 lb linebacker who runs a 4.73 40 is a pretty amazing thing. At DE he's obviously under-sized for the Jet's 3-4 even if he is an excellent speed rusher. I'd figure the Jets would start Spencer at weakside linebacker (Thomas current spot) and flop Thomas over to the strongside to take advantage of his experience in their 3-4. The strongside linebacker has more checkoffs before the play because there are more offensive players on that side to be accounted for. On passing downs the Jets could pull Coleman or D-Rob and/or lineup either Thomas or Spencer at DE and have Eric Smith as the nickel linebacker or bring in whoever the nickel cornerback is.
Damn, he beat me to it, but I agree that it is not a total pipe dream, though, something like moving down to the early second and getting a second next year is a lot more plausible.
so how many years do you expect us to trade down for an additional pick the following year? seems like its getting pointless, so If the Jets trade down it will be for something they will get in return THIS year...not next year
Cornerback is being considered according to all the draft leaks attributed to the Jets. I would make it less of a priority than a pass rushing LB though because you could have Champ Bailey in the Jet's defensive backfield now and without a real pass rush it wouldn't matter.
What kind of LB is Thomas then? I'm pretty happy with the linebackers, considering it was the first year of the transition.
1. He turns 25 in September 2. He has played Nickel and Dime for a majority of his college career. Not his fault yes but this will leave some question marks regarding him and his read on the ball.
All the more reason to try and trade down. I'd love to see us move down, grab Blalock and net ourselves a 3rd or 4th round pick to boot.
Watching the end of NFL live tonight & it was mentioned that Branch could be falling as low as the bottom third of the first round. He has the talent, size, intagibles ..... but does he have the desire. The last part is why they said he is dropping. He could be there @ 25.
I would love to see Puz play the role of Tedy Bruschi on our defense. The Jets have been trying to trade Barton so it wouldn't surprise me to see the Jets try and make a move for Puz.
