NE NJ is a suburb of NYC. If would not exist if not for NYC, and neither would the Meadowlands. Not that I'd really care if the name changed, but the concept is BS.

Well what about the Redskins? DC is a separate entity from the state of Maryland. Why isn't Maryland bitching that they don't get their name on the Redskins?

You totally missed the point of this bill. It is NOT NJ saying they want the teams called NJ Jets... It's New York saying they DON'T want the teams called NY Jets..etc.

Your bitch is with your own state, not NJ.

Next thing they want is Football to be called American Football because football is soccer. And they gotta be Patriot/Eagles fans to do this.

It should be embarassing for New York that one of their legislators actually has time for this kind of nonsense.

I agree, it's amazing that NY would try to legislate against the teams using the NY name. It made sense for NJ to try for it, because they want recognition. Of course the teams feel they're more marketable with a NY name. This politician is trying to play on that marketability with an amazingly stupid bluff. He obviously feels that if NY legislates against the Giants and Jets using "NY," they'd immediately give up on the new stadium, move back to NY to be able to stay a NY team. Of course true football fans know better. The Giants and Jets will remain popular and have a long season ticket waitlist whether they're called NY or NJ.

The Boston Patriots changed to the New England Patriots when they moved to Foxboro. Foxboro is in New England.....I'm missing your point on this one.

The funniest part of it all is that if they did change their name to NJ it would hurt NY, not help it. But hey, you guys put these guys in office, not us. (not you GG, that was just aimed at the NY people here)

That one was a bad example. The best example I think would be the Redskins, playing in Landover, Maryland, not Washington DC

    That bill is so stupid...

That area is almost considered NY, when American Idol went there they called it New York.

Right well this was a long time coming. I work for the Nassau County legislature and I can tell you that it is not within the scope of the law of ANY state to ban a team from calling themselves ANYTHING. They could call themselves the Anchorage Jets and the Spokane Giants... it still wouldn't matter. It's actually covered under the freedom of speech/expression in first amendment rights. The team is expressing itself by calling itself a certain name. Just because they call themselves NY Jets and Giants and they play in NJ doesn't give them the state the right to force them to drop the NY.

This is really a non-event, and frankly politicians should be embarrassed about wasting their time drafting it.

There is probably a "New York Pizza" in every state of the country, and NY has no authority to change that. I had dinner the other night at "California Pizza Kitchen", I think it was in CT. I think my wife tans at "Florida Gold" tanning salon, no where near Florida.

    Please...go solve some real problems.

EWWW NO WAY!! New Jersey Jets sounds disgusting. It reminds me of the Devils and Nets.. How depressing. Not like this is the most important thing though, but I would be upset if they changed it to NJ. It just doesn't feel right.
