Bills' upside passes 'overrated' Jets (May 6, 2007) ? The Answer Man makes a spring visit: Your hatred of the New York Jets is ridiculous. How can you think the Bills will be better than the Jets this season after the Jets were 10-6 and the Bills were 7-9 last year? I don't "hate" the Jets. I just don't think they're an above average NFL team and are consistently overrated by most of their fans. The Bills are at the same level but I don't think as high a percentage of their fans overrate them. They both look like 8-8 teams ? at best ? to me this season.I can't see the logic in the Jets being 40-to-1 to win Super Bowl XLII and the Bills being 90-1. I don't think either team is going to win this season's championship or even make the playoffs. Why do I believe the 2007 Bills will be at least as good as the Jets? Head-to-head is a good place to start. The teams split last season. The Jets won 28-20 in Buffalo Sept. 24 despite being outgained 475-256. The Bills won 31-13 at the Meadowlands Dec. 10 and outgained the Jets 318-275.One reason the Jets had a better record last season is that they played a significantly softer schedule outside of the AFC East. Buffalo's non-division opponents were a combined 91-69 last season and the Jets' non-division opponents were 70-90.I prefer Buffalo quarterback J.P. Losman over a surgically repaired Chad Pennington. I prefer Buffalo's wide receivers. I believe Buffalo's offensive line will be much-improved this season. I think Bills rookie running back Marshawn Lynch can be as productive as Jets import Thomas Jones this season. I think Buffalo has a better pass rush (outsacked the Jets 40-35 last season) and a promising secondary. I prefer Buffalo's special teams. I even like Buffalo's uniforms better. I don't "hate" the Miami Dolphins, either, but I think the Bills and the Jets both are better teams with brighter futures. > http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070506/SPORTS0101/705060342
simply.......no our WRs are better. Our defense should vastly champion ours from last season. Our head coach is a better gameplanner. Probably higher character players. We win, they lose.
I think both the Jets and the Bills are going to be in the 7 to 9 win range this season. Not sure who is going to be 2nd in the AFC East but I highly doubt a wild card either way.
Why is this guy so fascinated with yards gained in these games? What the fuck does that prove??? The only stat that matters is either a W or an L, and our team had more W's than his last year, so he can go eff himself. Losman over Chad? I am in no way a Chad fan, but Losman is not on Chad's level (yet anyways) Buffalo's receivers? We have a consistent Pro-Bowl caliber guy in Coles, and an up and coming STUD in Cotchery. Let Marshawn Lynch actually play a game or two before you think he's better than a Super Bowl back like Thomas Jones. Outsacked us? Sure, you got us by 5, but we were in the first year of a new defense and hardly had the right pieces of the puzzle, not to mention we added while you subtracted (Fletcher and Spikes). A promising secondary???? Who the hell is so promising? We have Rhodes (All-Pro talent), Dyson who is pretty damn solid, and the best corner in the draft lining up for us this year!
Bob Matthews is the most ignorant sports writer in the nation. There's a reason he's been in a minor league town his whole life. He had a best bet section for football this year and he went like 3-14. He's terrible. I emailed him a few weeks ago about some issues, he wrote back and was dumber in the email than he is in his article. He's a douchebag.
the only reason they ever got love was cuz of fletcher and spikes, those are two greats. i guess he never factors in the fact they lost their best players and have to count on rookies at two key positions (RB and LB) before they can even make up for the losses theyve suffered this offseason. this was a 7-9 team who lost its key contributors. now the only saving grace left is lee evans and schobel. if 2 of their 3 OL signings play great combined with a big IF of marshawn lynch having over 1200 yds rushing and something along the lines of Posluzny being a Def ROY candidate they have their work cut out for them is all im saying. now our questions are, can penny play 16 games, will thomas jones avg 4 YPC behind our mediocre run blocking, and can kenyon coleman fill the run defense void von oelhoffen sucked at last yr. theyre both dice rolls, but I find the Jets to have a better FO and HC right now and that has alot to do with everything.
Even I don't think the Bills will be anywhere near as good as the Jets and I agree with you on the Jets 7-9 win range. Buffalo I predict will win 5-7.
All have to say is when the season starts...lets talk about who is better than who! I see no point in talking trash about who took a step back and who got better! I can give you guys tons of reasons why we will better than last year and will have a better record than the Jets, and you guys can give the same reasons why you are better than us! Dolphin fans talked last year about how the Bills and Jets were going to be bad teams and they would challenge the Pats for the AFC East, but we all know how that turned out! Let the season start so the real trash talking can begin!
Being from Crapchester, I read this guys crap every day. He is such a hommer and always is pro bills, no matter what. I must admit they play us very though every game. But in no way are they a better team this year. Clements-- was replaced by? Ashtom Youbooty (3rd rounder from OSU) and they still have nobody to play the other side. Fletcher-- Has not been replaced, who will fill in Curt Steammer? Spikes-- Will be replaced by Pozluzny, a promising player but not an upgrade this year. McGahee-- Marshawn Lynch steps in here, I like the kid but he is not an upgrade in his rookie season. O-line-- They vastly overpaid for Dockery, who in my opnion is average at best and Langston Walker....well look at the Raiders line last year? They did not improve they way the papers would like you to think they did. Oh, by the way did you see what they paid for Chris Kelsay $23 million over four years, including $14 million guaranteed. Nice move for a "situational" pass rusher. All in all the Jills got worse this year, the season will hinge on the 2 new rookies and the development of Youbooty and Whittner (last years reach)
We are both 8-8 teams? Yea maybe you could make a case roster wise. You forgot the key here moron. COACHING.
The enormity of dumbness contained in this argument cannot be overstated. The Jets and Bills are in the same division and hence both played six games against each other, the Phins and Patriots. They both played 4 games against the AFC South and 4 games against the NFC North, 2 home and two away. The big difference was in strength of schedule games, where we drew the Browns and Raiders while the Bills drew the Chargers and Ravens. But even subtracting those two games, we'd still finish ahead.
The thing is that every year you can count on the Buffalo Bills finding new ways to lose. They are just darn good at it... even when they are at the top of the game.
Yea I know, what a joke. Lets watch our for a team that lost 3 of their top 5 players in the offseason. And not to mention they will be relying on a rookie RB.
