He had no time to take it off. If he tried, he'd take a mouthful of fist before he could even fight back. It's not like they were a few yards away... they were within a couple feet of each other when the anger ensued.

Varitek (along with every Red Sox but Ortiz) is still a little piece of crap, but not because of the mask incident.

Eh, I wouldn't judge Mattingly based on tonight, Torre was in the tunnel calling the shots.

And Jeter wouldn't get hit so much if his first move wasn't to dive over the plate.

As opposed to Ortiz who stands on the plate?

There's a huge difference between a stance that leans over the plate and trying to avoid inside pitches and diving out over the plate during a pitch trying to get hit.

    I disagree with this.

Ortiz is probably the ONE guy on the Sox I would not go after. Why? He's not a douchebag, at all. He's one of the friendliest guys in the sport. He might be the enemy, but he doesn't act like it.

Honestly, I've never noticed Jeter doing that, but thinking about it, you might be right. If he does that, he only does it against the Sox. Normally, he dives bent at the hip, yes, but he also bends his knees. It's one of the ugliest avoidance moves in baseball.

I could see Derek allowing himself to be hit by the Sox though. It's something to power the team, and in these series, both teams know any advantage is important.

This rivalry is getting ugly again. I had thought for a while both teams were starting to fall into a more friendly rivalry, but it's obvious now that these teams are getting back to the "old days."

As Rich said, the rest of this weekend should be interesting.

Jeter isn't trying to get hit, his step makes it so that he never pulls out, which is why he's been one of the most if not the most consistent hitter in baseball for the past several years.

I agree but the Sox and their fans can't really complain based on Pedro's history against the Yanks.

Not an unfair statement. I enjoyed those aggressive Pedro years.

No time? That's crap.. If I remember right Vericunt threw the first shot... Gay Rod's alot a things but a brawler isn't one of them... Just a clear incident of faggotry IMO...

...as for hitting Ortiz, I agree with Alio... no reason to hit him... plus for some reason, even though he destroys us I can't hate the guy... and I've tried... he did an appearance at my job and he really the good guy everyone says he is...

It doesn't matter if ortiz is a nice guy, Jeter is a nice guy and he's been plunked a million times. I agree w/ devil that alot of his getting hit is his own fault but he has been retaliated against as well. Ortiz and Manny should be hit, the yanks have not retaliated enough through the years and although I disagree w/ where proctor was throwing that ball but obviosuly I agree w/ retaliating and it's about time.

Oh please. Retaliating?! Chien-Ming Wang STARTED this one.

We know this much about today's game: Schilling isn't plunking anyone because he wants to continue his recent progress out of mediocrity, and Mussina is too much of a pussy to even try.

Give me a break, just b/c a player gets hit doesn't mean it's intentional. wang did not drill anyone intentionally. I think Wang has that Mussina mentality. For years the Sox pitchers have been plunking our guys w/ little or no retaliation and they did it again last night but we retaliated and I expect we will again if you guys start it again. I want farnsowrth on the mound to retaliate and see one of those Sox players try to charge the mound- that will be fun.

Personally, I'd like to see Wily Mo charge Vizcaino, but I think he could take Farnsworth.

Don't the Yankees have to sweep this weekend to even sniff a chance of getting back into the race? Are the Yankees saying that Mussina has a better chance of beating the BoSox today than Roger?

Fransworth is not only big but a black belt, I think he could take anyone on Boston or just about anyone around the Majors.

Ah, I didn't know that about him. If it's judo or something lame like that though I still think he could take him.

Bullshit.he could have flipped if off qiuckly like he does for pop ups/pass ball. There was atleast 10 seconds of jarring before anyone touched anyone. . He started a fight with his catcher gear on. He's a freaking sissy with a big C on his chest.

By that rationale, the first pitcher that hits a batter in just about every knock-down game shouldn't be called-out for starting it. In most cases, the first batter hit was an aggressive accident. Wang was either pitching Lowell inside and lost control, or missed horribly. He started it.

    Do Taiwanese tip their cap?
