I watched the whole thing last night, it was awesome. Made me see O'Malley in a new light, he really didn't want to leave Brooklyn. Even then the NY politicians were a bunch of fools.

Sorta. See, the thing I got from last night was that O'Malley ONLY wanted build a stadium on that one corner in Brooklyn. It wasn't available because that's where Moses wanted the LIRR station. Moses wanted the stadium in Queens. O'Malley didn't want to be in Queens. Nowhere was it ever suggested that O'Malley ever brought up any other site in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is huge and they could have easily found an alternate site in Brooklyn. But you are right that this sounds so much like the WSS fiasco.

O'Malley needed it there because a lot of his customer base left Brooklyn for Long Island and would then be able to come back on the train. Plus he wanted to build it with all his own money, he just needed approval for part of the land. Moses was more interested in winning a pissing contest, much like Silver and Bruno.

But the end result was the same--instead of a team owner investing huge dollars into something that would improve the city, he goes elsewhere and operates outside of New York City.

I only caught the last part of it ...but learned a great deal......gotta tell my dad to watch it when it's on again....he was an avid fan, used to tell me the stories about how my grandfather used to drive my dad and uncle and drop them off for the games. Had no idea Robert Moses played such a huge role.....and to me O'Malley did what he could, if having a good PR team was more in vogue back then, he probably wouldn't have been the villian he turned out to be.

True. Or even if Brooklyn's daily paper didn't fold and was covering the events as they were going on. Seems like a lot of people weren't privy to what was going on, otherwise Moses would have at least shared the blame. It would have at least been debatable, like we have here with Woody, Bruno, Silver, et al.

its really sad when you think about it....imagine if the Jets just packed up and left because they couldnt get a stadium....and imagine if it was 1955 and it was really hard to follow them with out cable tv...it would suck
