I just watched on www.newyorjets.com CMart's interview with CBS Morning Show where he announced that he is in fact closing in on final details to purchase an NFL team. He couldn't say which team because of the nature of the deal they're working but would hopefully have an announcement in the coming days.

Anyone have any other information on this?

Are you sure he didn't say "Buy a share of an NFL team?" I doubt he has the $750 million or so it would take to buy a team outright. He's from Pittsburgh, but the Rooney's aren't letting go of that team. I have no idea what Martin is up to on this.

I just watched it too. He definitely said he's working on finalizing the purchase of an NFL team. That's incredible if he does.

I hope it's a team like the Lions, because maybe he can finally be the one to Fire Millen. He'd go down in Detroit history instantly if he did.

3 situations where I would be overjoyed:

    1) He buys the Jets from Woody.
    2) He buys the Pats and runs them into the ground.
    3) He buys the Chiefs, and forces Herm to suit up and carry the ball 40 times per game.

    lmao

He must be going in with someone else on a team. That is unless he's been getting stock tips from Champ.

That's been known for some time that he wants to buy a team. Obviously he can't do it without a lot of partners or a lot of financing but it has been his dream. I would guess it's partners as the NFL owners have to approve it and without being filthy rich I would think he would have no chance on his own.

Curtis Martin on ESPN First Take "word association" this morning...

    Jets - Love
    Parcells - Father
    Suberbowl - Winning

He mentioned Parcells at least 15 times in a 5 minute interview. Whatever team he's trying to buy, I wouldn't be surprised if the Tuna is in on it. My gut tells me Woody is just about over the NFL ownership thing ever since the WSS was shot down, as IMHO that was his primary reason for buying the Jets in the first place. I still believe it has nothing to do with his love of football.

Martin and Parcells as primary shareholders in the Jets? Would certainly be interesting...

I think this would create a party in the streets if it happened.

I'm not sure I really like the idea of Bill Parcells being a part of this. Would he be able to keep his nose out of Tangini's business and just be an owner? I don't think so.

Another tidbit to support the Jets purchase... During the same interview on First Take he announced his partnership with Bloomberg to help the homeless in NYC. The plan (ambitious but impossible) was to cut the homeless population by 2/3 by the end of 2009.

Hard to imagine him leaving the NY area with such a project in place.

That's the beauty though. Parcells as owner could turn into Al Davis for the next generation. But with Curtis by his side I think he could keep his meglomaniacal side under control.

I think CM said he is closing in on a deal to buy a "flat screen HDTV" to watch the NFL.

If he announced his retiremnt and purchase of the Jets in the same conference, it might be the saddest/most happy I've ever been at the same time.

He definately will need at least one partner to make a purchase, though. I mean, sure the guy is rich, but not even close to having that much.

I don't think there's anyone alive who can keep Parcels under control. No thanks. With all due (and perhaps not due) respect for Bill Parcells, it would be a huge mistake for Curtis Martin or anyone else to partner with Bill Parcells in anything, much less an NFL franchise.

I hope for Curtis' sake this rumor proves false, because this would not be a pretty thing for him when the honeymoon ends, which I predict would take about 1.5 days.

Parcells is a snake. Part owner of the NY Jets? Just when things were looking optimistic again? No freakin' way...

Cmart owning the jets would be awesome...especially considering woody's BS, but I really don't like the idea of having Parcells running the team. He didn't do a very good job last time and we just finally dug out of that hole. It would suck to see him associated with another team, but good for him if he does.

I don't know. Personally, I think Jones is a schmuck, and gets too involved in things better "football people" should be handling, but he gets results.

I'm all in favor of a CMart/Tuna co-ownership of Gang Green. Imagine Parcells, Martin, Tannenbaum, and Mangini, all in the same war room at the same time.

    Belli would shit his pants.

Does Curtis have any experience running a multi million dollar business?
There's nothing about being a Hall of Fame running back that qualifies him to own a team and run an organization.
