After I saw that 'catch' in the Cleveland endzone, i really saw how much he had developed as a recieving threat. He'll most likely be used quite a bit in the passing game this year.
2007 "Baker could have expanded role" 2006 "Baker's role could expand" 2005 "Herm says Baker could be more involved in offense" 2004 "Baker could see bigger impact on passing game" I will believe it when I see it........
Baker is by no means elite but he isn't terrible either. He makes big catches in big spots, and as far as receiving production goes, he's right in the middle of the league. He'd have been higher last year if it wasn't for the BS call in Cleveland.
HUH??? Every year the guy's Role WAS expanded... Where's the problem... and 2005 was a complete washout for the team..... When he got here he wasn't the starter......
Just waiting for the report on Curtis Martin running up some stairs and how he's trained harder than ever to be ready for retirement...
I think the important things to take from this article are a) He was drafted as a blocking TE, and has been used primarily as such. b) His skills as a receiving TE have been noticed and he has increased production as a receiver every year. c) Pennington mentions that they have built good chemistry together and they're now on the same page. I'm not sure what the prior years articles mentioned, but this leaves me optimistic that he will increase production as a receiver yet again this season.
If you look at his stats, his role HAS expanded. I don't see whats wrong with them saying that. They never said Baker was going to be the Primary target or anything.
Eat your heart out Antonio Gates...I'm gonna ride Chris Baker all the way to the Fantasy Chapionship.
People need to laugh at something I guess.... I don't get it- IF YOU WATCH THE GAMES, you've witnessed a blocking TE with an EXPANDED ROLE... And we all know he made one of the plays of the year Vs Cleveland to win the game...... But, Laugh it up, I guess. Kids.
this article is very inaccurate. Baker was a receiving TE when he was drafted. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2002/profiles/baker_chris.htm http://chrisbaker86.com/index.php?info=investment
Wow, because I thought we lost that cleveland game last year...hmm. Can he throw a football, cause then we could expand his role in the passing game even further? Hey, I like Chris Baker and think he has the ability to catch a few more passes IF thrown his way, but 300 yards a breakout season does not make. The reality is that until we have a solid line (not this year), Baker will never live up to the full potential of which a lot of us know he is capable. Until then, we will have to live with the Greg Olsen lovers.
No one ever said anything about him BREAKING out! They just said they are going to EXPAND his role. This means they are going to continue to give him chances to make plays. If he gets 10 more catches this season than he did last, his role will have expanded. Thick headed....
I predict he wont' have many yards this season as he will still be doing a ton of blocking at the line, but he will get us a NICE chunk of red zone TD's. That catch he made gets overshadowed because it was ruled incomplete, but wow......such a long pass brought in with one hand. Still amazes me.
