great stuff i had respect for tiki till last yr. eli may not be a good qb or a leader but eli aside how tiki handled his last yr was atrocious. lost all respect for him. this fiasco just seals it for me.
This stuff really is ridiculous. Tiki's behavior last year off the field was reprehensible. Having said that, as 3rd noted, he was pretty much the ONLY reason the Giants made the playoffs, and for Eli to insinuate that he hurt the team by "losing his heart" is ridiculous. For whatever reason he had for playing well (no matter how self-serving it might have been), if Tiki hadn't been there the Giants have a pathetic season, and Eli is right at the top of the list of reasons for that. If Eli had any brains, he would have just said "Well, Tiki's not here any more, so his opinions really don't mean anything around here." From what I gather, this stuff first came up while NBC was broadcasting the Giants game, so I see nothing inappropriate in what Tiki said. Getting his twin brother to come on his radio show to make fun of Eli, on the other hand, only proves that apparently when they were born they only got one brain between them. If I'm NBC I bring him in and tell him to start acting like a professional, and not a 12-year-old.
Tiki is now in the media, and is paid to offer opinions, whether funny, bad, or good... Why are people upset with Tiki's commenets? Good...Someone speaks out.
There is a difference between a member of the media giving an opinion and then coming out guns blazing and attacking somebody. What Tiki did was wrong and I'm glad that Eli's teammate's came out and stood up for him. Granted I don't care for the guy A)playing for the Giants and B)What he did on draft day has made me root against the guy. If Tiki really cared about the Giants he would not have made the comments because he knows there are guys in the locker room that agree with him. If this controversey doesn't end soon it could destroy the Giants season before it begins. Eli was right about Tiki becuase once Tiki announced he was retiring the team went downhill. They went from legit SB contenders to a team that had no business winning as many games as they did. For Tiki to go and get his brother to gang up on Eli is bs. What are we in grade school. Unfortuntaley the world of sports media has become all about controversies and not the sports otherwise I'm sure Tiki would be on his way out the door. Eh yeah and Ronde has a ring.... so does Peyton and I think Peyton had a bit more to do with his team winning than Ronde did. Just a thought. Giant fans are going to have to deal with the fact that Eli isn't as good and Peyton and San Diego is more likely to win a SB with Rivers than they are with Eli. They got exactly what they wanted too.
Only in sports media in the year 2007 can a guy turn a personel vendetta with a former teammate into news.
Have you seen the article about Jerome Bettis' new book? He is not "kind" to the Steeler org. Even says he faked a knee injury to keep from getting cut. I'll see if I can find that.
Peyton takes up for little brother Posted: Thursday August 23, 2007 07:35AM ET Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, whose leadership ability was once questioned by a teammate, joined the fray between his younger brother Eli and the former Giants running back Tiki Barber. Peyton took a shot yesterday at former players who join the news media after their playing careers end and then criticize current players. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/nfl Now Peyton joins in and airs his voice... Wow Can we have some celebrity UFC the Manning brothers vs the Barber Brothers in the flaming ring of death winner takes all bout.
it's totally inappropriate and unprofessional. You don't retire and then suddenly start using your position as a broadcaster to rip on your teammates. If you want to critique the Giants, critique as a broadcaster. Then bringing in Ronde on top of it. Eli's response was childish, but Tiki starting this was reprehensible.
