~ ~ ~ Because the Jets didn?t get a guard in return from the Redskins, they likely will look to trade for one or see if anyone gets released before the season starts. A possibility could be right guard Keydrick Vincent of Baltimore, who is in his seventh season and started 12 games last year. The Ravens appear to have a surplus of guards, as first-round pick Ben Grubbs currently is starting and second-year player Chris Chester is second-string, with Vincent currently third-string. > http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTcxODU2MTUmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2

i hope we can get smiley from the 9ers. If we could get him for the pick, we got for Kendall, that would be a very good day! Faneca would also be nice
I'd love to get Smiley, here are the caveats: 1. The 49ers are looking for a 2nd round pick for him at minimum. The Jets don't need to give up any more first day picks at this point. Smiley's not a star just a good guard. 2. Next year Smiley is a free agent and will sign a $49 million dollar contract somewhere with $18 million guaranteed. Not my cup of tea. 3. I think the two reasons above are enough to add a third based on them.
Look for the Jets to pick up a veteran Guard after this week's cutdown. They must have a line on someone after trading Kendall with no legitimate player to replace him on the current roster.
That's a bit of an understatement, no? Faneca will be a FA next year, I hope we can figure out a way to bring him in.
Faneca would instantly be the best or second best o-lineman we have. No way are we getting him for less than a 1st or 2nd rounder. They should wait til the offseason, and if he makes it to free agency, see how much he costs. I still think giving a guard Hutchinson-type money is insane.
we should grab a guard that can fill the spot for one year, and do a good job, if he does a great job he can be evaluated and resigned, if not we can trade for a guard next season, and keep the stop gap guy for a backup.
We wont need to trade for him, he's a third string left guard and he'll probably be cut before opening day. He'll be a FA signing if anything.
Well if he's a FA, then he can go where he WANTS (most $). If he's dealt, we actually get t he contract he's under NOW.
eh who cares, he is a 3rd string guard, not going to break the bank. Most likely the money will be pretty close to equal from all his suitors and the decision will come down to opportunity.
I would like to get Kaczur from the Pats but I think they will keep him as a jack of all trades backup unfortunately
He may not break the bank, but he'll command where he goes... I say deal for him if it's the one that we decided on
Because the opportunity to trade up for hidden gems presented itself. That's a Bradway MO and it's what got the Jets in trouble in the first place. The problems right now are starting to look like an extension of 2005 minus the Chad injury. Anybody remember how badly the offensive line looked overmatched in the 2005 opener against the Chiefs before the wheels fell off? 2001: tradeup for Santana Moss who looked great at Miami but was a smurf to go along with the Jets other smurfs. Watch the Steelers draft Casey Hampton in the Jets original 19 slot. 2003: tradeup for Dewayne Robertson, the bowling ball with knives, who turned a great combine into a round and a half promotion despite not being an impact player at Kentucky. Watch the Patriots draft Ty Warren in the Jets original 13 slot. 2007: tradeup for Darrell Revis, a good but not great prospect at CB who was merely the best of an uneven class with no star at the position, who was a solid player for Pittsburgh. Anthony Spencer, Joe Staley and Ben Grubbs were all sitting there on the 25 asking to be the BPA.
^The only one I was happy with was the Revis trade up...I loved Moss as a player, but not worth a trade-up. The Jets addressed the OLine last year, especially the 2 most important parts of the line, LT and Center...This year, I agree that a minimum of 2 OLineman could of been drafted, but oh well...You can bet next season Tanny addresses the OLine for the 2nd draft in 3 years.
I wonder if it's all that...if the Pats had been the ones who moved up for Robertson, as they were reported to be trying, and we'd got Warren, who'd be seen as the better player today?
