That may be right. Herm essentially pulled Vinny after game 3 in 2002 when the Jets took their second bad loss in a row.

For the people looking hard at Clemens and saying he wouldn't possibly be successful as early as game 3 just remember that Chad lost his first 2 starts and 3 of his first 4 before he got ahold of the team and started winning. The Jets actually got blown out in Jacksonville in his first game, which technically was not a start since Vinny went one series before Herm took the opportunity to yank him after a hard hit.

The Jets called it a right shoulder injury but it never required any kind of surgical intervention and it's pretty clear in retrospect that Herm was giving Vinny (and himself) some cover by magnifying a minor injury to the point that nobody made a big deal about Vinnys tenure as starter ending so early in the season.

i def think that there will be a real hard look at chad if we stumble early. if we end up shoring up the LG spot, maybe with the guy released by balt, and penny doesnt get it done it can happen by game 3. i think if we come out and play poorly through the first 5-6 weeks that by the bye week clemens will be starting.

Well that would be a BIG start towards becoming a real SB contender if what KC has showed during this xhibition season will continue when the games really count

I love how you great Jets fans are rooting for the team to loose so you can put your guy in. This is exactly why champ has to keep posting the same thing. You look at successful teams and they have continuity at the QB position. How many offensive systems have we had in the last 3 years, hint, the same as the amount of years. If you like losing, just keep hoping to cycle through qb's until you find the next coming of Namath. There is only one way success comes, through hard work, not counting on the lottery.

I think five years is long enough for someone to prove they can get the job done. It is not about the schemes with Chad it is about him being able to make plays in the schemes that he is in. His inability to consistently complete passes over 20 yards and perform in the redzone has more to do with his lack of ability as opposed to offensive scheme. A post and a 20 yard out are a part of every scheme from the Pee wee leagues to the Pro's and he can not execute basic football plays that kill every scheme he is in.

If thats true than shouldn't most NFL Qb's have a SIGINFICANTLY greater amount of +20, and +40 yard plays?

And a much greater YPA ?

When people that complain about Cp we complain because he does not complete passes down the field. His Ypa is very misleading because his receivers and backs take five yard passes and run for 20+ yards. We want to see passes completed to receivers 20 yards down field.

He never threw a pick in his career in the red zone until last year, Coach.

Im sure you remember those two passes over the last five years he rocketed in to a wr on a slant into the end zone as well. Every year we all know the plays in the redzone. Fake to a T/E or a Fade to LC or JC. Spare me. The guy has always been horrible in the Redzone.

Yeah, just two. Ok. The team as a whole hasn't been great in the red zone since the Keyshawn trade, but that's another issue entirely. Still, 0 INTs is 0 INTs, and the ones he threw last year were on 4th down, so they didn't really matter. Posession was going to turn over if we didn't score anyway, so you force a ball in there and hope for the best.

You know, if some of you guys put the time and energy into curing cancer that you spend trashing the QB on the team you supposedly root for, you would have saved a lot of people by now.

And if you guys that root for this qb would stop spending the time and energy rooting for him your hearts would not be continually broken after he has to throw in the playoffs every year. Those who continue to ignore the past are doomed to relive it. Im sick of this Pennington Groundhog day.

I root for whatever QB the Jets put out there to try and win games, why wouldn't I? Some of us that survived Bubby Brister, Glenn Foley, Browning Nagle, etc, appreciate a guy who wins games and gives us a chance to be in the playoffs and shoot for the title every year. We understand that's not a given.

It is called a West Coast offense. YAC are the grapes of this particular offensive strategy.

If we've learned anything about the Mangini era, it's that he plays the players that are most capable of winning the game. If Clemens was better than Pennington, he'd be the starter. Now, I'm not saying that won't be the case this season, but right now, Pennington is the best starter.

When Chad is healthy he'll take you to the playoffs... that's always been the case. He's healthy now so why think that things are any different all of a sudden? He's 31 - which is hardly over the hill for a pocket qb. In fact, he's in the prime of his career right now. Let's stop jumping to conclusions here.

That is all good and fine until we get down to the Pats by 10-14 points in the playoffs in the 4th qtr with 7 minutes left and five yard controlled passes will not work anymore. Joe (The King) of the West Coast offense completed passes of over 20 yards in the WC offense every game! Having a Wc offense does not mean not having the Long ball in your arsenal!

You dont win by throwing the bomb on every play. Sorry but anyone who goes down by two touchdowns in the 4th with that time that isnt Peyton Manning will loose to the pats. Hell it took Peyton a whole half to come back from 21. I'm rooting for Penny to have a great season just so i can take the pleasure of reading in your posts how you think hes the best. Which will happen. the second he does good you'll be on his dick.
