Or perhaps the only slightly lesser-known adage, "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line."
I?m not liking are recent history when playing New England very early in the season. There will be a freak accident or they will call some ridiculous calls to save Brady boy! They may just stop the game in the middle of the third quarter to congradulate Brady on his new baby.
The Jets ought to set that up--have the former and current girlfriends both there. It would be kind of like when Bruce Coslet had Whitney Houston's rendition of the National Anthem played on the scoreboard for the Buffalo game the year following their Super Bowl vs the Giants. You take any edge you can get.
If they truly believe bender can hold his own, then I'm all for it. But if he plays like he did against the Giants against the Pats, we are screwed.
The last bit was funny... I think they took the Jets seriously when they bitch-slapped them in the playoffs
Better yet. Take a play out of the Jets Histroy books when we played the vaunted Raven Defense in...I think 2000. We went 4 and 5 wide almost all game and racked up 500+ yards, while still controlling the clock...of course we lost that game so not all went perfect but anyway.. It prevents the Defense from loading up 8 in the box and/or blitzing every play. We have 3 solid WR's, + Leon in the flat (go ahead and let ANY team in the NFL line a LB up against him) + Stuckey or Wright... or remove a WR and have Have TJ to stay in the backfield to block (Oh how sweet. A RB that can pick up a blitz. We did not have one of those for the last 1 + 1/2 year...Curtis was sooo under-rated in that department) 1 QB 5 OL 4 WR's (1 of them occasionaly being Leon) 1 RB in backfield or TE to help pass block Let Chad make the intelligent throws.... Now the only debtatable point here is that the Pats would take the LB off the field, which is arguably the weakest part of their Defense... Anyone with any insight into the depth of the Pats secondary???
Deep this season. At CB your looking at Samuel, Hobbs, Gay, James, and Merriweather if need be. Safety spot is very crowded with Harrison, Wilson, Andrews, Sanders & Merriweather. Wilson looks to be hurt so I'd expect to see Sanders opposite Harrison come week 1. Merriweather will play some nickel and 3rd safety.
So, after we are told by the media that the Jets were not interested in Vincent, the news today says otherwise, and that the Jets are speaking with his agent. Cimini said in his blog that Vincent isn't intelligent enough to learn the Jets' plays - so why would we want him? He's got physical talent, but... So, what about Rex Tucker and Rick DeMulling, both of whom are smart and tough if not athletic? So far no other G's cut of interest...
Can we agree on a theganggreen.com OFFICIAL definition of trap game? Ill offer this -- which I semi-stole from somone else on the internet: A trap game is a game that's (1) looks like just enough of a gimmie that the favored team fails to get sufficiently motivated; (2) where the underdog had a poor or mediocre record but is better than its record or is very motivated for game and (3) where the favored team has a "big" game the week after. HERE IS A GOOD EXAMPLE (I THINK): 1998. Jets are 6-3 having just beat a good Bills team. They are now facing the Colts (3-13)who are bad and who they blew out earlier in the season. The next week Jets have a game against Tennesse who was hot and now 5-4 (and would win to go 6-4.) Jets lose 24-23. They were looking ahead. Let a bad team beat them. The Colts were motivated b/c it was manning's first year and they knew they were getting better. He was starting, they had Faulk. All their games (except one) at the end were close. Trap game.
Looks like they're not interested in Vincent anymore. I guess they were pleased with the way Bender was playing yesterday. http://www.silive.com/sports/advance/index.ssf?/base/Sports/1188561637309170.xml&coll=1&thispage=2
I actually have 100% confidence in Bender long term. He was incredibly dominant at his level, and will be on our OL for a long time. He WILL make some mistakes especially in pass coverage because of his lack of experience, but he will help our run game a lot I feel. Olines need to have consistency and time together to gel. Continuously rotating in "veterans" is not the way to go. With Nick, Brick and Jacob we have the start of a great young OL. I really think this is the right move by the Jets.
Yeah, what Johnny said... I think Bender is gonna be a great one...but there will be some growing pains. The problem is you just have to PLAY to get through them, there is no other way to get the experience you need to learn and flourish.
