Stop in here with your random comments or remarks- a few I have after having watched into the 4th- 1) Nugent is the real deal this year on kickoffs- every game thus far we've seen him kicking deep into the 10 yard line- this game was no exception. The offseason weight training has definitely helped. 2) Brad Smith Experiment at QB- OVER. End it- he is not an NFL caliber QB- not now, not ever. 3) Mosely went out of his way to say "Pick me" when it comes to backing up Robertson. Showed some nice flashes tonight. Pouha, on the other hand, sucked again. He was pushed back on a number of plays and deserves to be cut. 3 sacks certainly go a long way to making your case that you deserve to be on the team. 4) Wallace Wright stays- he's an ace on ST and provides great WR depth. 5) Stuckey- a steal in the 7th round. I don't care what his "time" was on official records- his game speed and sick moves make him a 7th round steal. 6) We don't have a #3 QB- Tui suck so- is not the answer. 7) Raised this point in another thread but our OL depth is absolutely putrid. Not one guy in the backups makes me say "ok, if a starter goes down I'm comfortable with Joe Blow stepping up for the rest of the game." 8) Harris- I see him as being more valuable than Vilma if we stick with the present 3-4 alignment- no questions asked.
I only see one starter (Mangold) that I'm happy to have in there. The depth isn't the real issue, it's the fact that there is almost no difference between the starters and the reserves, all of them except Mangold are playing like second teamers.
How can someone put Tui down after tonights game? Not that he's great by any means but what the heck did you want the guy to do? He led them down the field and basically won them the game. Now does that mean he makes the team? I ain't saying that but to list him as sucking tonight is not watching the game and not being fair to the guy. All Mangini does is rave about Brick,, why some want to give him a tough time is beyond me.
Good observations KOZ... I missed the first half, so it was nice to get a little recap... Looking forward to seeing Harris in the starting lineup sooner, rather than later
IIMO....Mangini looked pissed off that Tui was having a good game. He actually looks good in the offense. SICK THOUGHT : Clemens as #1.....Tui as #2.........Cut Chad
You hating on Ferguson? The guy is an above average LT and you're pissed because he isn't Willie Roaf already.... Well it is hard to tell what he is thinking by what we think he looks like, but if the guy fits the system then a smart coach will keep him.....too bad this is the last and only preseason game in which he has looked that way and also got mixed reviews throughout camp.....but as a guy thats been in the league as long as he has, he ahs to land somewhere and I wouldnt mind if he stays here.
Defense had the bend but not break thing going again. The birds threatened a few times and had issues on special teams, but again, we weren't giving up TD's. They did get bailed out on a penalty at one point if I remember correctly though. Preseason or not I hope it carries over. The poor special teams play by opposing teams too. Even though we should have a high powered offense given the weapons we have I don't see that happening. That being the case we'll need the D to step up and limit teams to 3 or none.
My Observations : Jets' OL looks bad. Will look better by opening day. -At least there is QB help if Chad falters. -If Jones goes down, Jets' need a better #2 full-time RB. Leon is good, but not enough power & size. Ware is good as the #3 RB. Jets' will have to pick someone up....perhaps one of the Giants RB's that are cut. They have quite a few able one's & will try to slip one thru waivers. -FB's look able. -WR's.....Good depth there. Just need a QB that can make them a threat. These 3-7 yard passes all the time suck. -OL......AT least they have a Center. Brick will hold up. LG?....is in the mail:rofl: . Right side is steady if nothing else. -TE....Put them all together & they make one good TE. Would address this position in next years Free agent market or the draft. DEFENSE: DL....IS what it is. We all saw the Mosley coming out party. Pass rush overall is still poor. Haynes looks terrible. Wadsworth needs another month of camp. He deflects alot of balls. Plays better around the LOS & not chasing receivers in the flat. LB's......Teams best defensive unit. CB's/S....Finally saw Revis get beat. Funny thing is I was surprised. This guy has great technique & easily has best CB skills on team. He needs to help his teammates. Jets' got a (JEWEL) with this pick & at #14...a steal. There weren't 13 better football players than him. -ST.....Always tight. -P/K.....Jets' are set. Punters leg looks tired, but better than Jets' other punters. Kicker has improved his leg strength & kickoffs. We beter test him.... . Just Kidding. -Overall....Jets' should win more games than they lose as long as Thomas Jones stays healthy. No Jones...only 5-7 wins & higher draft picks. With a healthy Jones....Jets' win 9 - 12 games & a playoff appearance. -Now....Lets' see the last minute additions to the team.
Impossible to really tell anything from this game, of course, but I thought Tui did enough to be called a third string QB. Nugent does seem to be better on kickoffs. Non-vanilla offense and defense starts next week, and I doubt that anyone really knows how the lines are going to play.
What did everyone think of Bender? I thought he was much better even if it was against backups. I saw an a good sized, thick nfl lineman who explodes off the line. His technique is a long way to go, seems a little akward when he gets his hands on someone. But I think Mangini sees the potential there.
IMO....Bender looks good on run plays & bad on pass plays. But not as bad as Adrien Jones looks at LT....WOW...
